Hey Dave! The government fixed my life when the ACA was enacted. The fact that I wasn't able to get affordable health insurance as an adult because of my pre-existing condition (a physical disability) made life difficult (and expensive). I've been successful and had been able to pay (mostly) out of pocket for medical expenses, but it finally came to a point when I needed insurance. And the ACA helped me with that. So yeah, the Government did help me. But when I look at the ACA, I don't look at it just for me. I understand that I must take care of my house, but I also know we are all in this together, and seeing millions of other people who were denied coverage because of a pre-existing finally get access... that made me quite happy.

I like Dave, but he should stay in his own area of expertise. Talk about over simplification. The fact is good government on local, state and federal levels can make a difference in people’s lives. The TVA was a huge federal government project that brought development to his region and brought millions out of poverty. During WWII, our government troops literally saved the lives of millions of ordinary people. Conversely there are plenty of examples here and around the world where bad, inefficient, corrupt government has ruined the lives of millions. Government can and does impact the lives of many people every day. It matters who we elect. I’m all for personal responsibility, but government (both good and bad) makes a difference.
Dave has lived in America his whole life and I think sometimes he takes for grant the democracy and the stability of our country.
The USA is a Liberal Democracy so the issue of good government is moot, the government does well for us, by staying out of our way as much as possible. As such in a Liberal Democracy agencies like the TVA are redundant anyways, as most other parts of the USA got developed eventually, I do not know why that area would have been any different. Had the USA not gotten involved in WW2, the outcome is a little foggy, as Germany and USSR would have had a somewhat different war. USA had avoided European war before with no real ill effects, so not sure what would have changed this time, the Holocaust and millions of east Europeans dying still happened. Those other countries you talk about fancy socialist and/or fascist paradigms, hence the bad corruption and the stealing from the people for their so called benefit.
I think all Dave is just saying is to be rational. I don’t think he meant that the government has never affected your life but to the point that you need to announce you’re leaving the country or I think Mississippi wants to secede. It’s getting to be irrational.
👍 The examples are immense, Venezuelans said the same 20 years ago ( Ramsey’s point) and how are they today??? 😔

I was born poor, but well funded public schools public libraries, free medical care and student grants got me and my classmates to adulthood with enough health and education for a good working life. And our country benefitted more from that economically and socially, than it did from unbridled capitalism with millions unemployed so wages could be low, that followed those years. The well funded society I describe is what I would love to see for all peoples including the US.
I listen to Dave Ramsey from " across the pond" and the US seems to have a lot of people deep in crippling debt because of illness, or lack of free education at college level. We aren't perfect here, and sadly not as good now as in the past but the reigning in of the word excesses of capitalism from time to time, have definitely made a difference ( for the better) in our society. That is socialism, and its not the same as communism which does away with private business.

I love this, Dave. However, I would like to just make one small point: the gov't has indeed affected my family. My father grew up in a very segregated town which did not afford one group the same privileges as another. It doesn't matter which group he was a part of. The point is, it was wrong and we needed certain politicians to change those laws. I do NOT think we have the same issues we had 70 years ago, but I do think there are understandable residual affects. Washington DC DID fix those issues and I'm grateful for that and would do anything to prevent it from happening again. I am politically moderate, but I do vote for who I feel is the best choice.
I agree. I do have control of my life and am not flipping out over politics. However, we can never go back to racism or lose our right to vote.
@@CydnieDaniel Very well put!
Who wants to take away the right to vote and “go back to racism?” Facepalm. Most of us are mixed in some form anyway.
You have a good point that Dave is speaking from a position of White privilege that he cannot comprehend. That goes for most (but not all) white Americans. We need to be reminded regularly that there are people out there suffering and we have the power to be part of the solution. It’s not about money, it’s about human decency.
@@weaponson3-158 Just saying two things with my comment. 1) never take things for granted, and 2) there are some times you should get upset.
Do not want the Lone Ranger. Don’t want to be “discovered” or any of these other examples you give, Dave. I live in Grownup Land and am financially independent. BUT............I do know how much bad government can make life SO MUCH WORSE! I want Big Government OUT of my life. I’m fully capable of making my own decisions and have learned through hard experience which are good for me and which aren’t. I don’t place my hope in Washington, DC
I think he was being expressive..
government affects your life, wages, healthcare, job outsourcing, taxes...
You’re a victim
I kinda disagree. Laws that get passed or not passed by people in charge (Dem or Rep) trickle down to you eventually. But at the end of the day, you're responsible for your own life and how you deal with the inevitable seasons of change.
I kinda agree as well. It shouldn't be that way but has come about because of the federal government being involved in way more than it should. That's at least my opinion.
Isn't that Dave's point? who are you disagreeing with?

Dave is so funny. I went to a Christmas festival once and a lady looked at me and said "why haven't you converted to our church yet?" and her face was so angry that I almost laughed out loud. The Glory of God in a person is very attractive, but the lack of it will not draw new Christians to a church.

Ok Dave, challenge accepted.. Washington did actually do something that helped everyday people...The Affordable Care Act. It's far from perfect, but it saved a lot of people from bankruptcy over medical bills.
Absolutely and Dave just blows it out of the water and claims what they do as politicians doesn't make any difference. He's (Dave) is the stupid one. Yet, Dave is on here ranting about how my rants won't make any difference as he rants on and on and on.
The aca causes millions of people to lose their plans, increased the cost of Healthcare for many, and taxed poor or low income people if they didn't have Healthcare. Also we already had low cost plans, Medicare, and medicaid so the aca wasn't even needed.
I’m not worried about the government making my life better. I’m more worried about them making it far worse. The more government “gets done”, the worse off we all are.
I agree that the government does not affect my own character, my own integrity, my own heart. But they affect my freedom to work, to live where I want, to go where I want. They have the power to oppress if we let them have it. There are wicked people in our government and they want to take our freedom. That is what I am waking up to. That is what I am educating myself on. I’m still continuing my daily life and working and loving my family. But it’s time to wake up and be vocal about it! We as a country got too comfortable and that allowed evil to slip in and now they’re about to rip the rug out from under us in the next few years if we remain ignorant.
Please explain some examples. I’m genuinely curious.
@@shawkins79 If you have Instagram I would recommend checking out @plantbasedomnivore and @brittanyramsey
As for examples I believe the fruit of the Democrats speaks for itself. There is rioting, election fraud, shutting down the economy which hurts its citizens more than a flu-like virus would, Harris is introducing a bill that would keep kids in school for 3 extra hours, Biden is proposing more lockdowns. Have you heard of the Great Reset plan? It would change the way our country works fundamentally and goes against the constitution. The rich and powerful will benefit and the poor, middle class will suffer.
We mostly all understand that our parents won’t save us as adults but we think the government will be a bigger support to us than our parents 🤦🏾♂️

To say the policies of the past 4 years or the next 4 years haven't and will not affect our home lives sounds delusional to me.
It is delusional.
Well, Dave is detached from reality. His dumb Republican side of his brain blinds him from realizing party policies do affect us. He got a nice tax cut yet he says it hasn't impacted him. Sometimes, Dave is a f'in idiot.
The government will always affect our lives directly or indirectly. What I hear from Dave and John is that the government wont fix our problems at home nor should we fully depend on the government. I dont think theyre arguing that people arent affected by the government. Thats my interpretation.

People are lazy and it seems like an easy way for them to feel better about themselves for making an impact rather than doing something hard like working on themselves first

That is what they said in Venezuela 16 years ago.
Does Dave not recognize the fact that 240,000 Americans have died so far this year, going up every day, and our death toll absolutely should NOT be that high? Our lack of any real response from our administration is to blame.
I’d like to hear Dave’s opinion on medical debt. As in, the broken system causing someone to owe $100k because they got sick. It’s the one thing in the system that cannot be dealt with through ingenuity and should be fixed.
Yeah this is a good point. A lot of people get into baby step 2 over stupid choices like credit cards or bad decisions. But medical debt is a baby step 2 no one deserves to be in since it can happen to anyone (even with savings or a good job).
