@@dianecelento4974 That’s a great question. I don’t know if there are any that stick out in particular. I think it’s experience that I remember, more so than the words that were exchanged. They were content, wise, and in many cases genuinely happy. I just found it fascinating that so many people in what I would consider “tough spots” didn’t act like it. And on the other hand I know so many people with more money than they know what to do with that are full of bitterness. Not saying money is evil, that’s a fallacy. I just think it’s interesting that money sort of becomes irrelevant on the scale of happiness or contentment. Take care

ON the day I was leaving because I and many others were laid off (the plant eventually closed), all these young folks came and THANKED me for providing financial advisement and PUSHING THEM to GET into the company's 401K. those are great things to do, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't change their life trajectory. what would be great would be to give strangers money, but also teach them a little bit about basic personal finance and compound interest.
a simple compound interest calculator example is what really made it click for me. an example such as 10k invested each year for 40 years at a 7% return ends up being worth $2,136,095.
10's of millions of people in the US can afford to invest 10k a year, but very few of them actually do so, because of fear or simply not knowing what they're missing out on.

Now I am not only debt free , but I am bill free and I have a new goal which may take me a 3-5 more years but that goal is simply to bring in 4000 a month in dividend income at my current investing rate. I don’t have a lot to give but I still try to little things that sometimes aren’t even about money. A few weeks ago, the line was seriously slow at a little grocery store I was in. There were three guys that looked like they had just got off work and was tired and only had a few items. I was ahead of them line but I insisted they go first. They were so appreciative and just kept thanking me...and it was such a small thing...but I really didn’t have much extra money that week and that was my small act of kindness. Sometimes I’ll give a child begging for a candy bar just five bucks...that’s a little tricky..you have to okay it with the parent..but you can often tell when that parent just doesn’t have it as opposed to they just don’t want their child to have it. But I don’t judge..I just don’t. Once a woman was paying in change for cigarettes in front of me in line and you could tell she had a super hard life, probably on drugs, but I bought those. It may have been the only kindness shown to her in a year...who knows. I try to be observant and if there’s some small thing I can do, I step up and do it. I can’t do much, because I’m not in that position, but these small things help me, and people are very appreciative of kindness.

a simple solution is to just set a new goal of 5 million, or find a vacation home, yacht or sports car that you really love, then work to a net worth to be able to easily afford that as a small percentage of your net worth.
in regards to charity, just giving a check to an organization is indeed not very satisfying.
go find a homeless non drug/alcohol addict and go pay for a place for him to rent for 3 months, go buy a single mother a used car, go volunteer at a soup kitchen or homeless shelter. there are plenty of charitable things you can do that will bring great joy to yourself and the recipient.

Guarantee the vast majority of people do not need a degree, they need certifications or apprenticeships for everyday/high availability placements, and to start learning from a younger age than they are made to now. By their parents and other adults in their community, not govt subsidized preschool. Did you know you can just study independently and pass college graduation exams without paying for classes? You have the ability to help those who are hard working and hard pressed but can't pay their mortgage. Maybe find people outside of your community that need a hand until they can get back on track. So much good you can do that's not selfish. What an awesome and rare problem to have during these tough times. I feel privileged to be debt free and able to help those who need it.
