Yes! Volunter at a homeless shelter, a soup kitchen, or a boys club, just to name a few. And, not just donate as writing a check, donate by making it personal such as giving extra tips, or paying for someones vet bill. Also, having a hobby that will take him outside such as fishing or golf.
I feel like when u get rich, u lose purpose in life
Seems like his a narcissist to me. He is living a better life than majority off the population yet still not happy. If anything seems like his a psychopath as he says he "wants to make changes" i.e fire people and ruin their lives by being VP
Wow very wise words 👍

Clearly what drives this young man is not money, it's having a fulfilling life.
Maybe spiritual evolution?

He hasn't learned contentment. Money can never, EVER "fulfill". He should try going in a spiritual direction. Try donating and helping the world around him. Nothing is more fulfilling than helping others.
Clearly living in california is expensive and you need to work alot to even have basics
Making $170k in LA is like making $100k somewhere else. The cost of living in LA is almost twice as much as most other places.

Yep, $170k is not rich in LA. It’s just semi comfortable living.
Didn’t hear anything during his call if he had any kind of debt. Also after taxes he’s making about 105-115. Living in LA that’s just enough to be comfortable.
That was before remote work, now it's great that you could possibly take an LA salary to smaller and cheaper city
“Lord my heart is restless and will not rest until it rests in You”
St Augustine
Exactly. Peace is "the tranquility of order." Man is never fully at peace without offering to God rightly ordered worship, through the means he established: the Catholic Church.
Come Holy Ghost, fill the hearts of thy faithful and enkindle in them the fire of thy love. Send forth thy Spirit and they shall be created, and thou shalt renew the face of the Earth. Oh God, who instructest the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Ghost, grant that in the same spirit, we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in his consolation, through the same Christ, Our Lord. We all have a God sized hole that can’t be filled with anything but God. Until we realize this we will always be yearning for more.
This is so so true for so many people. My brother and I have had this conversation multiple times. He lived in an expensive town in Colorado while I lived in Chattanooga TN making much less money. I loved my job and he hated his. I was so much happier than him. Money doesn’t buy happiness, although it does help.
Money isn't everything but it's way ahead of whatever is in second!
It sure beats living on the street corner, but that is not happiness, either. My X H was never happy, either, but he wasn't making any money, either. Some, just aren't happy, so watch out for those people, that's where jealously comes to play,
And money doesn't necessarily buy good health either
Chattanooga, TN is a wonderful place. I love it
I don’t think money is the problem, it’s the job that your brother didn’t like lol!
At this point in my life, I have no desire to manage other adults. So I’m setting myself to be in positions where I can best utilize my strengths through collaboration with others and not necessarily leading others. Being debt-free allows us to not worry about seeking job titles because of the money. That’s a great feeling.
Very well said!
It's good because you know you can afford things "rich people can" but you don't because your smart and save/invest and make lots.
It's important to know when to stop moving up the ladder of success. Don't go beyond your level of competence or enjoyment.
An old saying: companies promote people to their level of incompetence. "Hey, he's good at what he does, so let's promote him" until eventually he's no longer that good and therefore doesn't get the next promotion. You need to know at what level to NOT accept another promotion.
@@Gruuvin1 wow, so much truth!
I feel that! "I have no desire to manage other adults" agreed!
You have the kind of personality that will never be satisfied. You enjoy the process of getting to a goal. When you get the goal, you need another goal because you enjoy the act of accomplishing something. It’s a thrill.
Wow so good
People like him need to be told a enough is a enough and gain some prespective.
That’s the hallmark of a hyper-successful individual
I found peace in Jesus. I'm praying for you, brother. This sounds like a bright sincere young guy.
pray for me!
Has Jesus ever splooged in your mouth?
🙄
You found peace in nothing?
Good for you lol.
Unfortunately, never being satisfied is part of the human condition I believe. Learning to be content is the key because there’s always more money to be made, a better job, a hotter wife/husband to marry, more cars, bigger trips, etc…
Nope that’s a lie from the devil. When you truly learn and are happy where you are at because you created peace there with yourself and God when things come around that bless you then you will find satisfaction there too. That’s what Dave Ramsey was explaining here. We can be satisfied when we stop chasing the ghost of thinking we need more when all we need is already with us

This is so true. My ex husband had the same issue never satisfied. Then one day it was his marriage that wasn't enough. They are never happy in the moment and always searching for more. Devastating for us as our two girls are now in a separate parent home and he is still searching. 💔

I feel very similarly to this guy, and it's such an exhausting place to be. John's right, and Dave is breaking it down well. The key piece is to dive deep down inside your driving motivations, and like John said--stop for a bit. It's so hard to find someone you can talk this sort of problem through with, because most people think it can be solved with a flippant: try this company, take a vacation, "just be happy", or finding yet another hobby. No, this is driven by deep convictions to achieve...sometimes in seeking a sense of self-worth. Jobs don't answer that.
I KNOW, right??
Every time I try to talk with an older man about being hurt, or needing direction, they dismiss me. “You’re making X, so stop whining.” “Just set goals and go.” etc.
Young guy he has a lot of life to live still. As he matures and seeks wisdom in his life he will come to the realization that life is like a subway, always stopping and going, on and off, but always having the realization that each stop and go is a stepping stone in his pathway of life 👍
Who is paying this kid 170k for supply chain work ? That makes no sense . At all
If he doesn’t own the business I don’t believe it. 24 is 2 years out of college, no one pays that money to a greenhorn.
@@jimk2988 if youre good u could get it. see pay in high finance, tech, big law etc
People can Make millions working in supply chain. It’s just on the consulting side or software side, not actually working in the supply chain.
you Must not live in California Los Angeles mostly a lot of jobs out here pays 100,000 so 170,000 is not a ton of money out here in California. The taxes out here in California is the most in the world that's why we get paid so much he probably takes home 110,000 have to pay almost half of it back.
@@pureluckscratchers7384 'most in the world' ..... Not.even.close.
You should do some more research. California may have high taxes compared to other states but its still nothing compared to a huge list of other countries.
I'm also fully aware of salaries , so unless this kid is a software engineer in 'supply chain ' ....no one is paying this kid that much money for traditional supply chain work especially with that low of experience. Just isn't happening.

TLDR: Finding fulfillment in work will not come unless you feel fulfilled with where you’re at now
Yep, this is great advice. Take a breath and smell the coffee. Instead of chasing promos, lateral moves are also great to learn how other parts of the business work. I went through this myself, once I stopped chasing it, I was more content - but I actually worked better and ended up getting promotions.
Six figures doesn't buy happiness. When you realize there's more to life, that's when maturity starts.
It buys you misery
@@ginoturano6821 it can, depends on how you handle it
I would absolutely love to make six figures, but I also have to consider what lengths I would be willing to go to in order to earn that much. If making six figures means hating my job and hating my life in general, then I'm not willing to go those lengths to earn that much. I could easily earn more money if I wanted to, but I really like my job and I don't think I'm willing to give it up for more money and a job that I'll probably like a lot less.

this was a really interesting call .. I think it should be about wanting more responsibility because money itself doesnt satisfy ambition
Money doesn’t buy happiness, it can just make it easier to be happy. He needs to worry less about position and focus more on life outside of the company. Donate. Do some volunteering. Travel. Do what interests you or helps other people.

Money does buy happiness. It’s up to the individuals whether or not they’re happy with it. If you’re an internally unhappy and miserable person nothing can make you happy. Many ultra rich people commit suicide.

Sheeit it would make me happy
He needs to find his own peace this dude sounds hurt and is using these job roles and ambitions to move that fast to fill a void that he may or may not be aware of. Best of luck to him
This is all around great advice. I found all of this in every aspect of my careers. I had a similar path.
Incredible piece. I was him not too long ago and when finally stayed put in grew in more ways than I ever imagined. Powerful piece.
The main point of having money is to not worry about having money. The peace of mind is priceless. That being said friends, hobbies, relationships and interests make you content.
I remember hearing John saying those same words when i was at a job i hated, drowning in anxiety and depression, and wanted to quit. And so i did quit. And he's right, all of that followed me, but it was different this time, the change in environment inspired me to change. The best decision i ever made was quitting. So many things changed that would have never happened had i stayed.
Sometimes you're in a toxic workspace and there are lessons to learn there, if you hang in there for a while until the "phase is complete". Then you're ready for the next phase. Leaving too early may rob you of some new skills which will be useful in life, but staying too long may also be a waste of energy.
Perseverance is healthy and not persevering may become a pattern of quitting when the going gets tough.
Great great wisdom from Dave n John here.
Don’t seek value from work role. Slow down, face what you’re running from. Then, ambition and drive find their place/limit, and you work from a core of pease, not a hurting hole.
I needed to hear this, too.
This one is the best Dave Ramsey clip I’ve heard. Great advice.
Such good advice, great job guys. God bless.

@@cocomarineblu993 I think everyone struggles with this. What I find helps is defining what “enough” means to you. If your glass is bottomless you will always fill it with more but if you are limited you will choose more wisely.
John knocked it out of the park on this one. Really motivated me to look into more of his work, what an amazing advice he gave to this guy.
Sound advise. Words of wisdom I needed to hear, too.
I think it is universally acknowledged that money isn't everything. People are what make life. Money is just a necessary tool in this life to enjoy time with the people we love.
It depends if you need money or trying to get out of debt then money is very helpful but for example you need 60k to live good and happy but want a 70k Job and live misrable do what suits you the best and not for money
Who told him having that salary would make him happy?! Someone misled him. Celebrities who make millions commit suicide as money does not and never will make you complete or happy. It does however IMO add security to your life and you can bless others.
Truthfully, the cultural messaging at all angles is that more money means more satisfaction. In reality, many people, are satisfied with being with where they're at. The chase for "more" only ends making one feel even emptier. It's a depressing cycle that has no definite conclusion.
@@StoneAgeWarfare

I went into Healthcare for this reason. I always thought I could do more with my life at almost 30, so I decided to become a doctor. A decade later, I have a ton of job satisfaction, and ultimately happiness. I'm not rich, but I don't have to be. I care about my time, my freedom, relationships, and opportunities to continue to learn.
This is so interesting... Do you mean you studied medicine at almost 30? Then you became a doctor 30+? Amazing! Hope you could share more...

"Don't look for healing in movement." Good advice that applies to jobs as well as other areas in life.
3:48 - LOL that was my initial thought 🤣
Dr. John, your advice was great!
This is solid advice. I also had this growth mindset, but way to speedy. A lot of the most powerful lessons aren't directly learned, but more so absorbed by osmosis over time. Nothing wrong with taking your time before progressing in your career.
And here I am battling with the exact opposite 😂 I don’t want to promote in my department because I’m content in my current position, Those above me seem miserable, and I could really care less about stressing more on work. I have enough to worry about outside of work. Is this wrong?
No, not wrong at all. I got promoted at 23, that’s a year after in a company. They promoted me out of desperation and lack of other candidates. I was miserable. I had to switch companies so I can be back to a normal (non management position) for some years to be content with every aspect in my life.
a colleague of mine bribed the hr to delist his name from the pool of promotions lol. he made more because of commisions, and promotion could possibly reduce his income and flexibility
I've seen managers above me come and go. The extra pay isn't worth the stress and eventually getting fired.
I'm in the same boat as you, my management is grooming me to become the lead for my shop when the current person retires. I think they gonna be disappointed when I say no thanks 😅 I see how stressed out he is all the time from having to fix everyones problems and he gets none of his own work done as a result, why would I willingly put myself in that situation?? No thanks
Same , I want to stay in my current position for a while, finally realized that I make enough and want to do things outside of work that satisfy me. I did however just become debt free except my house so that helps
What's the problem? Just go with the flow and keep the income coming in. Don't worry about being a VP.

Amazing advice and so applicable to many.
Happiness comes from within. Gotta enjoy the present tense
Yes. Exactly. Happiness is innate. External events and people are just icing on the cake. As a debt free and stress free retiree, I’m grateful for all my blessings. No more commuting to and from work in horrid, time consuming traffic. Not to mention owning a Toyota Prius Hybrid. Saving myself a ton of money on fuel consumption and expense. Saving money while sharing home cooked meals and connecting with my family and friends; enjoying delicious food with good company just can’t be beat. It’s a comfort having the cash to buy what I need when I need it. Retirement is good. Stay safe and God bless.
True happiness comes from what we enjoy not what we have or how much money we make
A job, a spouse, nor a lavish lifestyle can fill a God sized hole in your heart. This is what lead me to Jesus. Went to church and heard about Him as a kid, but I learned who He was when I spent the first 30 years of my life chasing everything else and never found true peace. Hope this caller finds God, it's the only thing that will give true peace.

Making 170k in California is equivalent to 60k in Texas.

Not true. More like 90-100K in Texas.

Nope. As one who lives in CA and works in HR, he’s doing very well! And I don’t see that salary in fulfillment and logistics often. Agree he needs to be content with where he is, especially if he hasn’t been in that role for very long. AND most people who leave a job like that, will find other reasons to not be content with their next job or company. He sounds young. When it’s time to make a transition, it will come naturally.

I make close to 200k a year 35 years old and I am very unsatisfied with my job. The money is great but sometimes you need to realize life is to short. I understand this individual 100 percent
Life is even shorter ehen u cant afford to fix yr car or dental care
I think it depends on how you spend your time. If you talk about drama all day and talk about the “news” such as watching tv after coming home from work. These issues could cause issues. Just stop watching tv and stop talking to negative people and talk to people every so often , meditate and go somewhere on vacation. Just depends on how you visualize the world. Most jobs that pay 200k are usually high level thinking jobs.
Well hopefully you have enough saved up so you can get out of the work force completely some day.
I've been in a similar situation and I can say that it can even be detrimental to your physical health. I've been working on changing myself slowly and stop focusing on the goal and start appreciating the process instead. Mental health > Money.
