Personally, it was one of my favorite films of last year and just really enjoyed it a lot and its emphasis on moral and the ugly truths about people. And how that affects those around you. Rather than about the result of the trial itself.
There were two experts who testified during the trial, one for the defense and one for the prosecution. Each had a theory, based on the evidence, as to how exactly the husband died. I found the defense's expert theory more plausible than the prosecution's. If I was on the jury (or panel of judges) I would've had a very reasonable doubt about her guilt based on that alone. "That's not the point."...The wife's lawyer was talking about the defense strategy, not her actual guilt or innocence. He was presenting an implausible theory as to how her husband died, and she mistakenly believed that the lawyer was speculating as to what she would want him to argue had happened. Seeing a trial in French court was interesting to me as well. If I were on the Academy, it would get my vote for Best Picture...although I feel like having her not speak French well, and therefore need to have characters speak in English frequently, was a method of making the movie more palatable to English-speaking audiences. Like myself. It worked.
The “that’s not the point” line stuck out to me because it showed how the whole idea of the trial wasn’t to solve the actual issue. I think the academy likes this movie a lot since they don’t often nominate foreign films for best picture that don’t get in the best international category so clearly they do really like it
If this review says anything, its that we need a review of Get Rich or Die Tryin.
I would be down. Assuming you mean the album and not the movie
This sounds really interesting, this is my kinda vibe. So I’m going to check out the movie as soon as I can.
