I remember those days. You go pick up the game and the players guide to the game. Then you'll flip through the book on your way home before finally loading the game up. Then came RUclips

Yep. You are exactly right. I get nostalgic every so often and open a couple of old game cases just to run through the manuals. Good stuff but I do watch a lot of RUclips.

I am just above 30 and I know that playing video games will remain my main hobby for the whole of my life. I began playing from Nes, but now I play only modern games, especially VR.

That’s awesome. I’ve always enjoyed video games from the simplest to the more complex. I spend a lot of time playing Destiny and have been enjoying the enhancements offered by the new Xbox Series X. I’m really blown away by the enhancements to OG Xbox and 360 games. It makes everything better.
I just got my PS5 and want to try Blood and Truth VR as they have upped the resolution. Can’t wait to check it out. Thanks for the comments!

Thank you for reply. You have a beautiful collection and room.
I loved old games (on nes, sega) when I was a kid, but now after watching AVGN I see that they su*k :). I understood that the old platformers were very hard to pass and they mainly depend on speed of recitation and dexterity of fingers. VR games are fantastic. As far as I know PS VR is a sitting experience, also hand controllers and HMD are not so good, so I would recommend you to try VR on PC.

I'm collecting and i'm 67 years old and retired I think it's great hobby. I have games that I have not open yet that are still brand new. I decided to play the games when I retired because I never had time to play them and now I still don't have time. Enjoyed your video and I thought I was the only one at 67 years old that plays video games and collects. I have a dedicated game room/man cave in my house with Star Wars, The Simpsons pinball machine with Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Xbox one x, playstation 4, Nintendo Wii still in a box never opened and all the mini consoles and a Atgames legend ultimate with 1600 arcade games. I don't have room for anything else and if I expand on my collection I will have to tear a wall down into the next room. Thanks for sharing Elder Geek!

Wow, it sounds like you’ve got quite the collection and setup. Have you posted any videos? I’d love to see your setup and I’m sure others would too! I’m actually 68 now and will be 69 next January. I can really relate with the “out of space” syndrome. I have to put something away to add anything new. I also relate with the fact that though I’m retired I have little time to play games. Somehow that’s not what I anticipated when I retired. :) I have a small Simpsons collection but have nowhere to display it. The Arcade One Up Simpsons cab sounds cool but not at that price with only one or two games. Do you have the Simpsons Arcade game on your At Games Legend? Keep in touch and post some videos!

@@ElderGeekGamer I am so proud of you guys! You know what? Older players give class to gaming and you both had the privilege of seeing gaming as it first came into life. I think that gaming is awesome and those of us who were privileged to play the classics when they were new, have seen the best part of it. Especially you two have seen much more games new than I have. I wish that when we, younger gamers, reach your age, we will still maintain your enthusiasm and still have fun playing those classics together. Be safe and have fun. Gaming is all about community and sharing fun.

thanks for sharing! I stumbled across your channel from your most recent video (totk unboxing). I feel like an elder gamer too; I just thought it was amazing to see the passion you share with your son (and grandson after watching this video) and found it really encouraging. I once had many gaming friends and was the host always for "game night" as well, I love the fact that you and your friends still play together. These days everyone is too busy with life, or have moved on to other hobbies. Unfortunately, I primarily play alone these days. I had to sell my collection dating from NES to PS3 due to living arrangements and boy do I still regret it! This video reminded me of my old collection and some of the predicaments we faced as collectors, "do we really need both versions of steel battalion?" I wish I had the courage to stream and make videos to share with everyone... great job and keep that passion alive! Us elders need to stick together!

    • @ElderGeekGamer
      @ElderGeekGamer  Год назад

Hi Daniel! Thanks so much for your thoughtful comments and for sharing your story. I totally understand about how our gaming friendships have changed over the years. We don’t gAme nearly as much as we used to but between. My son, grandson and a core group of friends we still manage to get the whole gang together from time to time. I turned 70 in late January and I think we had 18 people at our lan party. We played Halo MCC on our Xbox’s until about 1 am.
It took awhile for me to get up the courage to do these videos. I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2017 and I was too self conscious to move forward making videos as my tremors are very visible. I got over it and although I’d like to post more it will do for now.
Hearing from people like you really makes me feel like the effort is worthwhile. If there is anything I can do to help you get started, let me know.
What are you currently playing and what are some of your favorite games? Hope you’ll keep in touch!

@@ElderGeekGamer, that birthday bash sounds epic! Congratulations on the big 7-0 as well.
I'm sorry to hear about Parkinson's, but I hope you continue making more videos. You're genuine and I really enjoy the stories behind your passion! It makes me feel that I'm not the only one in this grown-up world who still cherishes the memories of a great game.
Oddly, this is the first real RUclips comment that I ever left. I just felt that I had to reach out to you and let you know how much I enjoyed the video.
I'm currently playing TOTK and eager to explore more street fighter 6, my new arcade stick just arrived this morning too! Unfortunately, I'm going through a few personal things at the moment that have kept me away. Eventually I'll get back to it!
What are you playing these days? And definitely, let's keep in touch. My notifications are turned on!
      Have a great day!

@@dlau13 Hi Daniel. Great to hear from you. Thanks for the thoughtful post! My birthday bash was epic! Turning 70? I’m making the best of it. 😁
I’ve been limiting myself to the podcast videos because my tremors have progressed so much over the past 5 years, it’s hard to do unboxings and other stuff let alone editing the video.
I’ll make this public soon but I just finished a bunch of neurological tests and will find out tomorrow if I’m approved to have DBS surgery which can eliminate up to 95% of my tremors. The downside is that it is brain surgery and they drill a couple of holes in my skull in order to place two electrical leads. The wires from the leads are placed under my neck and attach to a pacemaker like device that stops the misfiring of my brain cells. Some good news is that thanks to recent technology improvements I can do the whole surgery while I’m sedated. You used to have to do it awake. Yikes!😳
BTW I’m honored that my story/content motivated you to comment. Seriously.
Like you and a bazillion other gamers I’m playing TOTK and really enjoying it. Our next podcast will focus on how each of us are enjoying the game. I was tempted to get the SF6 Collectors Edition but $250 is insane. The game looks fantastic though. I’d be curious to hear what you think. What current gen systems do you have? Most of my friends are on Xbox so I have a series X, a PS5 and of course the switch. I don’t do PC gaming at this time.
Good luck with the personal issues. Life can throw you some curve balls that’s for sure. FYI I was having a crap day and your post turned that around for me. Thanks!

The issue with all of these is that the batteries have corroded over time. I had some cleanup to do but all works perfectly. My other Vault is powered by USB. Awesome to hear you did your own thing, it’s not easy but if you have that itch then good you’ve scratched it. Really sorry to hear about the Parkinson’s, how long ago was it diagnosed? @@phpchap I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2017 but looking back I had symptoms as early as 2000. There is no cure and current meds do a fairly poor job of managing the symptoms. Well I’ve lived in East Tennessee since 1987 but don’t think I have picked up much of the accent. I grew up in Southern California where as far as I can tell we don’t really have an identifiable accent. What do you think? Is there anything in my accent that would have tipped you off to either place?
To make it even more challenging although I spent most of my younger life in SoCal and most of my recent years in TN in between I lived in Phoenix Arizona, Memphis Tennessee, Atlanta Georgia, Reston Virginia, st Louis Missouri and Dayton Ohio. Maybe I picked up a little in each place. I also spent two years in Japan when I was a kid but that doesn’t count. :)

@@ElderGeekGamer Wow, you have lived in many various places:) As far as Southern California accent in concerned...Well, I certainly think it's diffrent from the east coast and northern states (I skipped southern states altogether as they're way different). Yes, I can hear SC accent in your speech hence my question. The SC accent is much less rigid and much less tense than the accents I just mentioned above. It's more like a melody, very laid back. I'm actually on my way to perfect the SC accent as it seems the nicest and coolest. A bit off topic, but still. Anyway, did you also buy NIntendo 64 on day one and what did you think of it? I have mine at home with Quake 64/2, MK Trilogy and love it. Keep up the good work! And it seems that MK Trilogy is the Holy Grail in Poland, which is unexpected. @@EnglishPolishOnline South Carolina accent huh? I’ll have to check that out. I definitely like the “laid back” vibe. That’s so SoCal.
      I think I’ve had a couple of N64’s
So the one in my game room is probably not the first. My son was the bigger fan of Mario and I liked the Star Wars games, Turok and of course Pilot Wings and Mario Kart. I still believe sir to it’s low resolution that it’s best enjoyed on a CRT. But that’s just my preference. Quake 64 is a great game and the MK Trilogy is awesome too.
