    He was SO much different from the other Idols of my teen years, and I loved him for it- and got made fun of for it! Through all my relationships and 2 marriages, no one has even come close. In '90, when I was was 16, I lost my Mom to Cancer. Hearing on the tv that River was gone gave me the same cold, sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. Happy early 49th b-day beautiful! Thanx for uploading this.

    This is so refreshing to watch..Listening to people speak about him is very intense. Everybody loves sweet River. He never judged anyone he was humble and kind. He really became Mike Waters. River was genius acting and researching for the film.
    Rest in peace Riv 🌻

    He really felt a closeness to gay people emotionally, that’s why he took the role. He was an advocate for anyone who was true to themselves and didn’t conform to a social norm.

    I went to see the early movie matinee "my own private Idaho".. after it was over, i sat thru it 2 more times, i was struggling with the complexity of the movie.. In this movie, River played a boy that had severe narcolepsy and when stressed he would black out..he was abandoned by his mom, then sexually abused, and to survive he turned to prostitution. he moved to portland, and met Keanu's character. The two of them were merely surviving and being abused by everyone they came in contact with.. Tragic story. In the last scene, he was heading back to Idaho on a remote road, The narcolepsy caused him to black out again, and a car pulls up, you think, "finally, someone is going to show this boy kindness". hoping for a happy ending, and the driver, checks to see that River is ok.. the song, "America the beautiful" begins to play as the driver takes his shoes and leaves him unconscious and alone in the middle of nowhere. I sobbed.. I had to watch it 3 times in a row to grasp the emotions i was feeling. After this touching movie, i was a lifelong fan of both River and Keanu. I wish Keanu would take on more independent films with this level of depth..

    • @ppotter
      @ppotter  Год назад +1

      I still can't watch Keanu in anything I fell for River so deeply, my young self couldn't disassociate actor from character, which I suppose is a shame. By the way, there was an alternate "happy" ending where he's picked up and he's driven away. Not sure if I saw an outtake or just read about it though.

    He was such an amazing actor! He was beautiful inside and out. Almost too good to be true.If he was still here he would be at the top. Above BradPitt,Leonardo,Tom Cruise,Johnny Depp, etc! His acting was above any I just mentioned. It’s sad he lost his life and way before his time. Almost makes ya wonder if he was set up over jealousy. It’s hard to believe he done this to himself but it happens.I miss you River you should still be here with us! Wish you had another chance darling!

    What everybody is missing: MOPI is an honest portrait of a boy growing up without a father and then turning to men to find a father figure. It's the standard biography for the majority of gays.

    • @novembrine29
      @novembrine29 5 лет назад +16

      starlodear there’s a bit more to the movie and mike’s story than just a lack of robust father figure. Besides, he was literally looking for his mother for a good quarter of the movie.
      Not all gay men have daddy issues, btw.

    Not surprised at all that even lesbians fell in love with him. Sometimes people are so extraordinarily there souls touch you, no matter the gender, it transcends everything and that is why he was so natural with everybody...

    • @DeepScreenAnalysis
      @DeepScreenAnalysis Год назад +1

      It’s because River in himself was in a male body but had a more sensitive soul some might call feminine, so the androgyny is very appealing to lesbians and some gay men.
