Why is it that every time Piers asks Pratt a question, he won't let him answer it? He jumps in and talks over him when he feels the need, belittles Pratt with dumb questions, right in the middle of explanations like, "can you tell me the exact date that happened?" It seems like Pratt needs to be on a talk show thats willing to listen to the answers given before they try to talk down to him. Just saying...

General McCrystal failed to mention that most hunting rifle cartridges are nearly twice as powerful as the 5.56mm round.
He also failed to mention that the 5.56mm has been plagued with controversy about it's stopping power. There have been complaints that it often fails to tumble and fragment on impact but instead just passes through the body leaving a tiny wound about the same diameter as a pencil.

@@09rja Canada has an average 500 homocides a year. Which includes stabbings and gun murders. U.S has 11-12 thousand. So of course Canada is much safer than U.S and most people who own guns in Canada mainly use it for hunting, not to defend themselves.

      @09rja 2 года назад +2

@@dmytrokopetskyy6981 Well keep in mind Canada has about 40 million people and we have 300 million. But a lot of our murders are tied to the drug trade (or domestic stuff). And the notion we can change that with gun laws is absurd. We can change it by legalizing drugs (which I favor)......but domestic killing isn't going anywhere.

@@09rja true, but we are talking about mass shootings that have happened with a military style weapon. There is absolutely no reason for a civilian to have a military style weapon. Look at the mass shootings you guys had in 2012 sandy hook school and the movie theatre in Denver. In 2018 you have had 23 school shootings. In 2018 there have been more people who died in school shootings than soldiers who serve in rye military. So it tells me that in U.S it’s safer to serve in the army than for a child to go to school.

"do you know how many citizens have stopped the mass shooters?" we're not aloud to. if a citizen hears a gun shot and is out of range he/she is supposed to flee. you are only aloud to shoot if your life is in immediate danger and if you can leave you are expected to. if you instead run towards the shooter to save other's lives and kill him to stop the mass killing, that is seen as vigilantism and that is illegal and they will send you to prison for saving lives. plus when the cops do show up they may mistake you for the threat instead and kill you even if the mass shooter is dead cause they were called about a shooting and you have a gun. if we are there we can do something, but if we are far enough to flee the law prohibits us from helping. no cop has ever said "hey, ccw holder. I need some back up. help me take this guy out." no, they would tell people to leave the area and if you stayed you'd risk being targeted by them.

The thing that stopped school shooting for a long time was armed security guards that were private citizens who just owned a firearm for the job. Detriot had this for a long time untill schools were made gun free zones: now you find it rather often that people will bring in handguns, knives, and what not into the building for what reason no buddy knows. My mother during her 16 year of teaching down in that pit of ruination had a full blown fire fight happen outside her school at one point, and she also get mased by the cops for breaking up a fight when the cops wouldn't do anything because it would have got bloody if she didn't step in with another teacher. SECURITY GAURDS ARMED WITH FIREARMS ARE A GOOD THING!
You can look at the numbers here in the US and you find out over 90% of the murders that happen are not with a firearm. It is with knife, bluntforce object, and or other means because they are easier to conceal. For gang bangers bluntforce objects the perferable things because they are easier to get away with: one hard hit to head and the target now is bleeding from the brain an will die in 5 minutes no matter what because people are unaware a hit was just done.

Whether you agree or disagree with Mr. Pratt 17:42 is a moment of sheer BRILLIANCE! This man knows how to debate. I have never owned a gun nor even held one in my life. But I also do not want my right to one stripped of me just to provide me with "more security". I (surprisingly) happen to agree with most of what Mr. Pratt says. According to Piers, this means I'm going to go buy my first gun. I have NO intention of this. Putting words in the mouths of your guests and viewers is no way to debate.

He could have bought it legally from any one of the millions of so called responsible gun owners and law abiding citizens in the US. No laws would have been broken by him obtaining it from one of these private citizens. And this is the floor in the logic of people who say that criminals buy illegal weapons. Fort Hood military base area was a "gun free zone" on the base. Florida school shooter appears to have just walked out with other school kids. The shooter at Texas church was taken out by an armed NRA member as soon as left the gun free zone church area. In Norway where had disarmed basically everyone, including police, there was a shooting in 2011 of 77 kids and adults. More gun control and more laws won't stop determined people. The Aurora movie shooter chose the one theater in the area that was "gun free", btw. That wasn't a coincidence that he chose that particular theater.
No one says "if everyone had been armed...". The suggestion is to not have "gun free" zones and allow trained individuals who are screened to have the right to carry. Texas has a Texas School Marshal program since 2013 that allows school districts to have armed teachers under strict rules. No outrage in Texas over this that is already in place! Why argue so much about not allowing other states to implement a similar program?
How many people killed by automobiles? Let's raise the driving age way above 16 years old. Why do we let 16 year olds drive cars?

  • @andythebelkin

My insurance policy is the knowledge that no one in the UK can own a gun legally unless it is extremely regulated the gun and person. And that no one can own something like and ar-15 or a Glock for example. Secondly I have a securely locked PVC door, that are built into houses as standard in the UK. These doors warp with impact and return to their previous form, so not even a police battering ram is capable of breaking through. Thirdly is door and window locks in conjunction with double glazed silicone reinforced windows. And finally a police force that is rated as one of the best in the world. I have never felt as safe as I do in Britain any where else in the world.

Apparently women are 83 times more likely to be assaulted with or threatened by a gun that is legally owned by their spouse/husband than they are to use a gun in self defense.
Did you hear about that father last week that pointed an AK at his daughter for not getting straight A's on her report card?
How would you decide who is and is not fit to own a killing machine?

I wish Larry Pratt had this discussion with someone more informed than Piers Morgan. Nothing productive came out of this besides the realization taht Piers Morgan is a sensationalist with no appetite for facts.

Piers. My wife and I are rifle and handgun owners. We are Americans. We are from Illinois...we have FOID cards. We legally own our guns. Because we have legal access to our guns we understand them and know how to properly use them thru practice.. We KNOW how to use them. We store them with with children in mind. We have become brilliant with them. We support the second amendment. We fully support Castle Doctrine. If anyone should invade our home to cause harm to us, we will stop you. Quickly and completely. No matter how much you would like to use statistics against me or my wife because of gun ownership. If you invade our home to cause us harm. You will not leave. You will never cause harm to us or any other. This is The Second Amendment in MY home. Peirs, in America we have one thing you will never understand in a gun free county. We can shoot back. Perfectly.

"State agriculture department spokesman Brian Long says a 12-gauge shotgun discharged while its owner unzipped its case for a law enforcement officer to check it at a security entrance."
Figures that law enforcement had to be involved. Lesson to be learned here my friend. More guns = less crime. More government intervention = democide, whether directly or indirectly.

All the anti-gun debates focus on fear too.
The whole debate, on both sides, is centralized around fear.
"You're afraid of the worst, but in giving up rights to the government to prepare for it, your actually unwittingly contributing to oppressive government, and are indeed the problem."
There just reworded that for you.

Pratt was referencing the -total- number of murders because Piers kept on falling back to the ideology that guns (by themselves) cause crime, when this was in fact massively untrue.
The reason he mentioned it was that even WITH a gun ban in the UK, not only are gun-related deaths still happening (at a higher per capita than the US), but crime overall is HIGHER there, even with less guns.
Pratt dodged the question, yes, but he gave an even better answer because of it.

Actually the differences in violent crime between the UK and the US are slim at best not to mention that according to many politicians in the UK crime their is MASSIVELY underreported.

He was hired away a year later by The Daily Mirror, where he served as editor until 2004; he was fired for publishing an expose´ of British soldiers torturing Iraqi prisoners of war, using photos that later turned out to be fake. Once out of the newspaper business, Piers Morgan became a television personality, appearing as a judge on the talent shows America's Got Talent (2006) and Britain's Got Talent (2007, with Simon Cowell, launching interview shows in the U.K.

    1) as I said before, higher penalties do not deter people. That is well documented.
    2) good
    3) what do you suggest should be the qualifications? should training be required? or just anyone of legal age with no record of mental health issues or criminal charges? Or should people who want to buy a gun have to take an actual mental health evaluation? If people are not actually evaluated for mental health issues, you are only relying on crazy people who know they are crazy enough to seek help.

    1) The average number of deaths in a shooting stopped by a citizen is 2.5 it never rises to the point of a mass shooting.
    2) Mcchrystal is wrong about the .223. Vets since Vietnam have complained about the lack of stopping power of the .223. I hand load for my .223 and even with the fastest and heaviest loads I've loaded up the .223 is the bare minimum I'd want for coyote hunting and is illegal for deer hunting in my state. Loads like the 30-06 or 7mm mag are truly devastating not the .223

Murders without guns don't matter. The only ones we care about are the ones done with guns. Right? Just trying to make sure I now what is morally reprehensible and what isn't.

Just wanted to add that subtracting 3.6 gun murder value from 4.8 of the total murder rate in US gives 1.2 value, which is the same as in UK. It makes perfect sense to me, considering that besides the difference in gun policies these two countries are not too dissimilar.

Murder is murder whether it is US or UK. What constitutes "violent crime" is different and very much depends on the legislation. To make comparisons one has to take a very careful look not to compare oranges with apples. In any event it is irrelevant because the discussion was not about poorely defined "violent crimes", it was about homicides.

  • @brokendreamzyall

There are approximately 45 murders committed in the United States every day. If you divide the total number of death as a result of murder and non-negligent manslaughter every year in the US, which is 17,034 according to the FBI, by 365 days, you arrive at roughly 45 a day. 30 of which are perpetrated with guns.
40% of guns sold in the US per year go through private sales and gun show loopholes. So at least 12 of those murders guns were probably bought legally, but unregistered or checked.

    1) There is the assumption that all of those weapons are in the hands of citizens; not the government which "will not always be there". 2) The argument of justice through moderation works only if each of those guns were sufficient for defense of every person in America. 3) The word enough requires a judgment call, and most judgment calls are hard to make when you are miles away from their application...behind a desk in the relative safety of a studio.
