Hi, Guys :) I know I'm behind on replying to comments and messages. I'm super busy, but I'll start posting replies as soon as I can. Know that I read ever single comment and message, and I appreciate them very much so please don't stop :) Fair winds, Mads
David Richards Thank you so much :) I appreciate the comments/massages very much and I want people to know that :) Now that I'm publishing three videos a week it is difficult to keep up. Funny how all that work aboard the boat also creates more work online :)
Mads, good video and I'm proud of you for standing up for your rights as a consumer. Corporations are quite used to walking all over customers and our only option sometimes is a well-voiced complaint. This project will look great when complete. Thanks again.
Ken Morgan Most Corporations are out first to make money and second to give us what we want/need, so vigilance is always good. When buying wood in bulk I think it's almost usual that just the total number of meters of that paticular profile is calculated. There's probably a logical reason why it's still done like that today, so when you require a specific number of planks at a specific length then be very detailed when ordering.
Ken Morgan Thank you so much :) Hopefully, I'll be able to show you guys a test fit of the mahogany slats next weekend. I'm so much looking forward to finishing this project (in another 2-3 weeks)! :)
Greetings Mads, I recently discovered your channel. After watching all 110+ videos over the last week or so, I am a great fan. I enjoy your resolve to problems and the attitude and forthcoming energy you put into your work. s/v Delos Crew is another favorite channel of mine, they also have positive attitudes and a great vessel and back story. You also have this great charisma and on camera presence which makes your videos a pleasure to watch and indeed look forward to.
Hi Mads, the v-berth is coming along really nicely! The white top insulation really lightens up the space, already it's looking clean, light and spacious! Once finished I reckon the cabin will become one of your favourite hang-outs ;-) Oh, and great result on the mahogany - I sense some future mahogany-based projects coming in the not too distant future ;-)
No worries Mads , we know how busy you are and are watching with anticipation to see the project finished ! Hey and your pronunciation of in-so-la-tion is getting better !
I know this is way to late for Mads but for those looking for tips on making templates. Get some white greaseproof paper. The stuff you usually line cake tins with. Dip the paper in water which makes it ply able but still strong enough to handle. offer up the paper and push it into the corners. When the greaseproof paper dries it will be in the perfect shape for a template.
Really liked this video Mads. Watching you make the templates, and explain your thinking behind why you are doing what you are doing was very insightful. Your boat just keeps getting better and better. :)
Mads, maybe a crazy idea, but I read recently that a South-African couple sold their house located in Cape Town in Austria by some kind of lottery mechanisme, its only legal in Austria. You could sell the tickets to your audience and get your asking price this way. I wouldn't mind winning your house and meeting you in Denmark for sailing trips :-)
Boy, you are doing alot of work...have you thought about the condensation and where the dew point falls in the system, based on environmental conditions? A vapor barrier? General idea sounds good, but there is alot more that goes into it. Wish you luck!
jackrabbitslim36 Thanks :) I'm 99% sure I'll leave a small gap, but I haven't decided how big that gap is going to be :) I'll figure it out when I do a test fit (next weekend hopefully).
That white foam with this texture is very sexy. I'm looking forward to what you do with all that wood. I'm curious if you end up in the historybooks of sailing as Mahagony-Mads :-D
Hi Mads As always, great work. You have not mentioned any of your plans other than liveaboard for once you are done. Are you also planning to an extended cruise and time off work ? Stephan
The Boat List Thank you so much, Stephan :) In short my plan is to save up money for a slightly bigger boat (38-42 ft), fix it up, untie the lines and become a full-time cruiser :) Depending on what kind of boat I want to upgrade to I'll spend 2-3 years as a liveaboard in Obelix. That's the plan :) Fair winds, Mads
A new metric appendage measurement. we use beesdicks for less than half a millimetre, now i know how long a buttload is :) I am rebuilding my ya ht at the moment. because i have a steel hull, i am told i cant use your system incase condensation forms behind my insulation. such a pitty as i like your design.
Fred folkerts I do plan on insulating under the v-berth :) First I want to try getting better ventilation under the mattress using wooden slats. That should go a long way and possibly solve the issues with the underside of the mattress being damp.
***** Mads, I've been researching that myself, as the topic of mold under mattresses comes up in so many live aboard videos. Here are two products that get mentioned in conversations in cruising / live aboard forums. One is a modular snap together system, and the other is more old school and very simple. frolisleepsystems.com/index.html, www.hyperventmarine.com/index.html
mikko Virta That would be a good idea and it's on my list :) I'm prioritizing the areas of the hull that cause discomfort (like a wet bed or wet socks by condensation pooling on the cabin sole)
Hilsen Rune
What is the insulation's name in Danish and what does it cost and where did you get it? Im from Denmark so feel free to respond in Dansih if you want :)
Why did you choose the 2 types of insulation? The second step is proper air ventilation. Read this article when you get a chance from a fellow live a board. cruisinglealea.com/notesoncondensation.html
CW Fan Check out the beginning of this video :) ruclips.net/video/6-DfBIgthbg/видео.html. Air ventilation is not a big problem aboard my boat due to the Refleks stove and a couple of vents. Big fan of Lea Lea by the way :)
***** I knew you explained it earlier but damn if I could find it again. Big fan of Lea Lea too. I was coming back into the Juan de Fuca from 200 miles off shore in similar gale conditions they had on their trip to Frisco from Port Townsend. Never mind that it was in a 48ft Maple Leaf, I was sicker than a dog! On top of that our path crossed in the middle of a US carrier fleet. Talk about attention and getting buzzed by Tomcats and A6's out of Whidbey Is. In case you didn't catch it in my handle I'm a Ham as well so my interest was peeked on your progress. Getting your ham license isn't conducive to meeting women. haha.
I den første episode af denne serie på 9 sagde du at West var den eneste epoxy du kunde finde i Danmark. Men MAS forhandles af XL-byg i Skive skive.xl-byg.dk/

No need to reply to all the messages, I sure we all appreciate the efforts your making.
Thanks for another super video.

Hi from Turkey. :) Looks like it's going well. Keep up the good work.
Dave Foster Thank you from Denmark ;) I'm glad you enjoyed the video :) Stay tuned for lots more videos :)
Great job on the insulation Mads. I'm looking forward to the wood work. You have inspired me to attack the job of replacing the ceiling on my boat.

Scott Clark Thanks :)
Hello just started with you yesterday about 10 hours of watching or it feels like 10 hours, its been worth every min

It's never too late! ;) At some point, I'll need to do the same aboard Athena. Your trick might come in handy there :) Thanks for sharing it :)

Daniel Berry Thank you so much :)
Good work and descriptions as usual. Another 2 weeks and I'll be back aboard PassMeBy!
"Haul Ass To The House" Your sounding more American everyday!! :)
***** What's wrong with that?
Nothing wrong with this at all.. I think its great.. :)
***** Haha, thanks :) I blame RUclips and Hollywood ;)

Yep, you better get back here are start insulating my boat. I just don't think I will be able to do as good a job as you are doing Mads. :) haha

Great video as always mads just curious are you going to put the slats on tight or leave a gap between so you can see the white behind it?
jackrabbitslim36 Thanks :) I'm 99% sure I'll leave a small gap, but I haven't decided how big that gap is going to be :) I'll figure it out when I do a test fit (next weekend hopefully).

A butt load of mahogany? Sounds like more bright work projects in the future :)
D Gourdine There is a high chance parents will get something made out of mahogony this christmas ;)
HI Mads. What is best west system og Mas epoxy. Did I miss the comperament?
Bravo !!!!

***** after living on obelix for 2 or 3 years when you do get a 38-42 footer it'll be like moving into a huge mansion. :)
Dennis Thompson That is true! I'll need a butler and a small staff just to keep the new boat from feeling to empty ;)
lol
Hello. Why a 2 part insulation? By now I'm sure you're aboard. How do you like it? Is it warm? How about condensation? thanks
Is there a functional need for the vertical stringers? Or is it just because it looks better?
Hehe - I've bought loads of good stuff cheap from Aldi here in teh UK :)

What type of foam are you using? Why the two different varieties?
Fred F
I am wondering if you plan to insulate under the vberth and are you not concerned about condensation under your bed
Fred folkerts I do plan on insulating under the v-berth :) First I want to try getting better ventilation under the mattress using wooden slats. That should go a long way and possibly solve the issues with the underside of the mattress being damp.
