Black Klondike is probably my favorite leather from Red Wing, love my 2015 Huntsman boots. Decided to wear them mostly in cooler weather though, so sadly haven't worn them for a few months. I might get engineers when I buy a motorcycle; no laces is perfect for riding.
Glad you were able to add the klondike to your engineer collection CJ.. I have been wearing my klondike with steel toes to work every other day. I wear under armour medium cushing sport socks with mine since they go high enough and wick away moister. I bought about 10 pairs for a good price at the 3 discount stores marshall,tj maxx ross.If i was going to wear them in colder weather i would use my hiking socks darn tough etc. I definitely get a lot of use out of my boots since they are steel toe requirement at work.At first i was thinking i would just wear on fridays at work but after a week i wear them every chance with boot cut levis 527 in warm weather and thicker denim 517 in colder weather.I may try my levi 511 selvedge on the weekend with the cuff. They feel so good .In the morning they have a little room but after all day they form to my feet and i have to struggle to get them off at night. Like a suction cup the fit is so good. The soles do not show any wear after a month still.Enjoy breaking those in.Cheers!
Seeeexy! When I get my engineers on, I just get that (and there is no better word for it) *swagger*. I feel confident, strong...okay perhaps not tough (being only 5'5" and 130 lbs!), but solidly confident. Oh yeah, and I had gottten a lot of irritation on my calf as well early on when my socks slipped down my leg, but it went away after time. Great boots, would love to get the Klondikes as well. Mahalos!
Fine boots. My first pair of engineers were Chippewas, and they weren't breaking in easy at all, so I talked to the old man down the road and he told me to go stand in the creek for 5 minutes and walk my boots dry. So I did and they broke in better after that. But at the time I was a 13 year old kid, I probably wouldn't be doing that now lol
I've heard that also, stand in the bathtub in hot water and walk them dry. I also will cut the top of an old tube sock and wear over regular sock at the top of the boot to help with the irritation of the leather around lower leg. That helps tremendously when breaking them in.
@@CJCook Yeah, I was trying to save a few bucks but finally broke down and bit the bullet with Wesco. Not sure if their STOCK size will fit, but if not returns are easy and they have a great custom size option for those willing to wait 16 weeks.
I purchased the steel toe version of these and they arrived yesterday. I was wondering: Mine only has the red wing stamp on the right shoe. Is this the case with yours as well?
Good question! At times the choice is based on: Do I need to break in a newer boot, Will it rain (rules out Roughout Leathers) and What do I have on the agenda (i.e. auditions).
When I see those I imagine that your heel would have to move up and down as you walk, otherwise, how would you get them on? That strap couldn't possibly pull the boot in enough to be snug on your feet.
I tried the green ones in malaysia once... Was so happy to see it... I believe u could only find them in Japan... Correct me if im wrong... Wanted to buy it but unfortunately they only have a pair... Darn it! End up getting the oro russet instead... Still awesome... Anyways, those definitely look good in denim... I wanna say u have made a good choice but dude u have almost every model out there...
Those are beautiful RW boots indeed! I have a pair of Frye Sutton Engineers, they have a lower heel. I also have a pair of Harness 12Rs in green leather. Engineer boots are tuff to break in but, once broken in they're awesome!
@@CJCook I had the impression the Engineers are a bit narrower compared to the Iron Ranges. Would half a size be a bit better for the Engineers compared to Iron Rangers?
ed rader yes but those are steel toe. The ones CJ reviewed are not and it will make a huge difference in how they age. That being said, a good cobbler can remove the steel toe for those looking for that 1930s look. Standard and Strange in the Bay Area carried these boots for a minute. Anyone looking for engineer boots should look at their store.

Damn I love that sole. I wish there were Iron Rangers or Blacksmiths with that type of sole. I know about resoling but still.

I have the steel toe version in black Klondike heritage. Are these cow hide or horse hide? I can’t find much about these boots.
They use bull hide and cow hide but not horse.
wish I could find these in my size online
Them some bada$$ boots! And yes, you're correct with the high knee medium weight boots socks, only way to go with engineers/ pecos.
They look awesome! Congrats.
Thank you Navid
Where in the world can you get these things? Hard to find!!!
Currently only eBay. Unless you are stuck on Black Klondike WESCO makes a better Engineer.

Yeah, the only downside is the wait.
Did i understand well??? If i wear 10.5D on Iron Rangers, i should go with same size on These????
Can't find these anywhere in the US! How can that be????
which size do you need?
@@CJCook well in most red wings I am size 10

Gotta make these your daily wears no matter the cost to your feet
Hard to to pull off but sure look great! What kind of straight leg denim are you wearing? They look amazing, maybe better than the slimmer ones
These are Japanese Selvedge denim from The Gap.
What are the price on those?
I don't recall the exact price...Near 400$?
I purchased the steel toe version of these and they arrived yesterday. I was wondering: Mine only has the red wing stamp on the right shoe. Is this the case with yours as well?
My boots do not have a stamp at all.
@@CJCook Sorry I was referring to the stamped Red Wing logo you pointed out around the 4:15 mark
@@charlestonburr Ah, yes ! I was thinking of the Wing stamp. Yes, only the right boot reads RED WING
Should I size up or size down
Do you already own Red Wing boots?
I have the classic moc toe steel toe that use for work
And those are a size ten and their made in china

Are these the same as the 9268s?
Same leather, no steel toe.
Do you have to unbuckle it to put them on? Or you just slip them on?
Yes, you should unbuckle them to slip them on your feet.
@@CJCook what size are you wearing for the 2966? Did you have to size up/down from your usual red wing size?
@@raffthy5709 I wear the same size as last 8 (Iron Ranger, Blacksmith, Beckman).
How do you go about choosing the boot for the day?
Good question! At times the choice is based on: Do I need to break in a newer boot, Will it rain (rules out Roughout Leathers) and What do I have on the agenda (i.e. auditions).
I Just try to fit Engineer in store, but I felt pain cause it too narrow. Dissapointed why they don’t make any E or EE Size.
When I see those I imagine that your heel would have to move up and down as you walk, otherwise, how would you get them on? That strap couldn't possibly pull the boot in enough to be snug on your feet.
Yeah, I can see how one would think that but the boot sucks your heel down and keeps it in place...as long as one is wearing the correct size 😉
How did you get them Red Wing store in Nashville cannot get them?
Try Snake Oil Provisions

Hi CJ. Can you enlighten me a bit. I wear a 9d on iron rangers. So should i get a size 9 as well in 2966 or should i get 9.5?
