    Jamaica Plains should have been such a better settlement location. Ideally placed to be a launch-off point for exploring the south of the world map, yet it's atrocious.

    • @ebonywarrior80
      @ebonywarrior80 Год назад +2

      I prefer using egret tours mari a for my south bound starting point......easy to get ,close to 3 magazines ...coast guard pier and wrvr radio station being the other....it doesn't get attacked as much as Jamaica plain and there's water,also every exit and entrance to Jamaica plain is hard to wall up ,also provisioners get attacked less in and out of this route and if u put a turret right near the bridge enemy spawn,it actually prevents the spawn ..mostly....cause random spawns ....

      @@ZamboniZone I downloaded a mod that increases the size of settlements and Jamaica takes up the entire town. While flawed, it really makes it seem like I'm reclaiming the town back to it's former glory and I get lost in settlement building because of it.

    I only just discovered Jamaica Plains. I was so excited when clearing out all the ghouls because I thought Bethesda was going to give me a huge city block with all these buildings to work with.... you can imagine my complete shock and disbelief when I realized it's actually only one tiny area and 1/4 of that is a blocked off building you can't even use! I mean, COME ON! They give us such a small area and plop a building down I can't enter?! Yeah I'm still salty...

    For my Jamaica Plain build,
    I use that parking lot to build a 3 storey Warehouse/Appartment/Greenhouse (in that order). It then free's up the rest of the area to use, like you did, turning the area where the Workshop is into a full Workbench room, and the ground floor of the usable house as a Tavern, and utilise the upper floor/s for further needed development. I usually leave the back area where you had the Moo-Moo's left open, just because it seems more of a natural flow for the beasts to wonder; but also have 2 Guardtowers, and about 10 Sentry Guns each side.
    'cause no bandits will be makin' off with MY brahmin!
    LOL

      Just remember to add a second set of stairs so you and your settlers can path them without being bogged down by glitched settlers that freeze on stairways ....and it's more immersive too...by creating more pathways for settlers they are less likely to be standing around .....

      You too can be great at building .....remember having a large junk inventory in your workshop is a must before building .....so loot everything u see everywhere you go .....or make jet fuel like I do lol.....fertiliser is free and plastic is cheap and plentiful....flamer fuel is the easiest ammo to find in iron saugus works next to the slog ....or just buy that too ....

    • @ebonywarrior80
      @ebonywarrior80 Год назад +1

      Having the right amount of junk to build your settlement all in 1 go leads to lower build times and less frustration....don't get bogged down by any 1 specific item that take more than 5 minutes to build ....make a rough plan before you build and google all the magazines for settlement objects and decorations.....leave room to expand in your settlement if you lack the perks for certain items ....like nuclear generators.....don't get bogged down making structures for items you will replace as u get better .....and if u want more caps ....put 1 guard per 3 outposts ....the more unemployed you have the more money they spend at shops built in your settlemen

    Settlers usualy needs at least a quarter of a floor to stand free. Half a floor tile to pass an area. There you have your answer of the levetating setler. He hasn't got room enough. Plus the room that he has is elevated already by the rubble. Yeah i liked your cranky nuild style in Jamaica Plain. Got anpther tip. Dont get over 5 settlers in settlements . At least for the majority of the settlements. Jamaica plain is hard to build. But I've build and seen numorous lovely styles during F4 years.

  • @Nemirsmoon
    @Nemirsmoon Год назад +7

    Oh wow, I hardly even recognized it as Jamaica Plain when you first turned around. This is another settlement that I just cannoooot for the life of me work with, or have the patience to deal with. Clearing it out to begin with is such a pain the butt to begin with, which just sours the entire settlement experience for me. But I like what you've done with the place! I think the barn set mixes in decently well with the pre-war houses - gives it a bit of a small village vibe, where they always have a dappling of houses from different eras.

      If you don't like using mods ,I get it,but the scrap everything mods give you that little bit more freedom to build especially at Jamaica plain....I don't use mods to add things just to take away the rubbish that should of been scrappable in vanilla ....or pillar glitch everything and I agree that building up is a solution but it's hard to keep aesthetics.....

    That's a really good-looking settlement, it's compact but well laid out with good use of existing space, I don't know how difficult it would be to do but if you could wire your outer door switches to one main override switch that way if you're under attack you can close all the doors with one flip of a switch, and still be able to open and close the doors individually under normal circumstances.

    • @Rigel_Chiokis
      @Rigel_Chiokis Год назад +1

      Very easy to do. You just have all of the power lines for those individual door switches meet at a single pole, then have a switch to kill the power to that pole.

    I remember first starting out, I didn't know any glitches or anything, no mods either. The vanilla build mechanics are such a pain! You did an awesome job building strictly vanilla. I lost patience after two settlements and learned glitches and then downloaded mods! Good on you for having the patience to stick with vanilla building. Although, tricking the size meter is technically a glitch, we'll let you slide on that one.😂

    Your bunkhouse could have gone upwards at least one more floor, possibly two, to give you more rooms for settlers. Jamaica Plain has a decent build height. Building upward is always a compensation for not being able to sprawl outwards.

    This is more difficult settlement to biuld since you have kinda a limited area, but you did it pretty well. The smaller the population of this settlement is a wise decision, since I did have a lot of problems with with fitting 30 raiders settlers here. I had to spam here a lot of sleeping bags, guard posts for jobs/defence, and put everyone in one basic building to save up space here.

    I really like the rundown, small, and cramped feeling of the build. You are also correct that the barn set is too large for a bunkhouse.
    How about a boxcar bunkhouse build?
    You can use the Vault 88 connecting hallways (the red and blue one) as a trailer lookalike. If I remember correctly it has "end" to close one end, so you can put the door on the other end. Sadly I already gave my home computer to my relative, so I can't give a screenshot example.
    Or you could use the boxcar to fit two beds inside. Then you can either stack it to make a boxcar hotel.

    One thing I will never get, is how they managed to make it not possible to scrap trash and rubble in the vanilla game. The only settlement location that allows it is the mechanists layer. Yes I'm aware it has, roughly said, something to do with how the cells work for performance optimization. But making trash not scrap able seems not logic to me. Hell if you install the "Scrap Everything" mod, trash and rubble are even labeled as such. Unfortunately though, this mod brakes the game so yeah...

    Even without mods, Jamaica Plain isn't the worst.
    I still can't believe you left Croup Manor off that list, its got to be tied with Coastal Cottage for the worst settlement in the game, maybe worse, as it has added frustration because the boundaries stop inches short of the water, has a tiny buildable area mostly taken up by a broken house and trees which interfear with defensive turrets.

    Great job, & thanks for working outside your normal preferences. I'll often use a bunkhouse style early on just so there is a covered space to sleep. Takes me back to basic training, with a few dozen of us sharing a room. Over time I will work on more private accommodations.
    No point in criticizing someone for what they like. It's like that one friend who enters a conversation just to say they don't like whatever show, song, or food you're enjoying. Ok, thanks. You don't like it. I needed to know that, because it's all about you.
    As far as building with mods goes, that's fine if that's what someone likes, but Bethesda is planning to update the game. Get ready for the wailing when the Scrap Everything & Place Anywhere mods stop working because F4SE doesn't work. Not that I'm above it. If they fix the various glitches, I'll have to actually learn how to build without clipping.

      that will be fun :) just to be clear I wasn't criticizing mod users, I was just pointing out that the list I was referencing was specifically rating settlement sites based on their aspects in a mod-free playthrough. as you said, it's all about style. massive lived in settlements like Oxhorns are great, but just not my style. I like my brutalistic concrete builds, they just aren't for everyone, and not exactly appropriate for every location, which is one reason I'm experimenting and branching out as of late.

      If you arrive at the settlement with the attack in progress, there is a chance they will spawn inside the walls. If you fast travel to a settlement which is all ready under attack, the attackers will almost always spawn inside the walls. Which is why I don't bother putting walls around my settlements. I just have so many turrets that a settlement's defense rating is well above 300; as a result, they generally don't get attacked at all.
