I grew up in the Midwest and have seen American Gothic many times at the Art Institute in Chicago. It’s one of the classic American paintings and instantly recognizable. Wild that the actual house still exists.
This is why I've subscribed for many years. Chris takes us to some great places.
Thank you.
It's good to see the house so well preserved.
That was such a cool trip. I grew up on a farm and used to wish my house looked like the painting’s house. Such a surprise to find out it was real. Thank you for sharing all the interesting info. And most of all, thank you for taking me along ❤
Always liked that Baby Blue paint used in Victorian House's porch ceilings.
Such a beautiful quiet place 🙏🏻💙
I LOVED this video. I always pictured the house to be way bigger.
So cool you tracked that down. Never dawned on me it was real. Funny story, growing up we had a copy in the den. A friend from elementary school said, hey are those your grandparents? 😂 When you’re back down in Bucks/Hunterdon Co. there are two Gothic structures. One a garage in Doylestown & a home in Frenchtown
I had no idea it was still around. I figured it would be long gone. Glad you found it! Beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
As an Iowan, I’ve never been to visit this house. I probably should one day. I should also visit the Field of Dreams baseball field. Great video Chris, keep up the great work!
An Iowan here too and I was just thinking that seeing those places would be some nice weekend/ day trips.
I noticed that the ceiling of the front porch was painted a very pale blue. That was a very old custom in the South. It was believed it would keep away hauntings. I never knew the house was real. That was such a severe looking couple. I thought they were married as well. Very cool history.
Oh wow...I am from Arkansas but never heard that about the light blue paint on porch ceilings! Thanks for mentioning this!! ❤
I pass thru Eldon on my way to oskaloosa at least once a week, Eldon is a nice town. The house was a private residence until about 15 years ago. It's been restored well, when I saw it just after it was sold by the family of the owner, it was in pretty poor condition, and the back porch was cluttered. Looks much better now
@@CassAndra1111 Missouri, I come up highway 1 from keosaqua to 16, then on 34 to ottumwa then 63 straight up to oskaloosa
I don't think most people think "it's just a house", and if they do, I think they're missing the perspective and respect towards the world that you have that's so important! Just the fact that the house is from the 1800s is impressive and deserves respect and admiration, let alone that it's such an integral part of american history that it's in a painting that I think most people have seen at some point in their lives.
It’s absolutely gorgeous!! I’d love to live there💙Great find and background Chris!! Thanks so much!!
farmer and daughter... learn something new every day.
Oh yes i have seen that painting many times and showing the house is such a treat. Thank you so much! I really enjoy your videos!
I have seen that painting but knew nothing about it. Thank you for all this information.
Thank you. I thought it was a man and his wife. Nice to know. ☺️
Me too !
I love this. Thanks so much for posting. Fantastic! Really cool!
Her look and his pitchfork always struck me as foreboding. 😏
Great thumbnail Chris! 😁. Guess I never really paid that much attention to the house.
Very cool. LOVE the history. Seen the picture. Didnt know it actually existed!! Being able to "stand in a painting". Pretty cool!!
I really appreciated this story Chris! Who knew? 😊
Never seen a backside of a painting before.😆 I always thought the painting was from the tv show Green Acres. I guess it's vice versa.
What a cute house! So glad that it is still around. The American Gothic painting is in the Art Institute of Chicago, seen it many times as a kid growing up there.
Thank you so much for sharing! Such an interesting history tidbit. 👍🇨🇦
Lol...I love how you are "in the painting"! That's a cool little house...I never knew there was a real house that was used as the background. I also always thought that the painting was of an old farmer and his wife. Thank you for telling the real story and for showing us not only the house but also the real people who were the models. ❤
This was great!
One of my favorites.
Thanks and well done, Chris
Adorable 🥰. Lace curtains
Wow, so interesting. I never knew the history of the painting and surely didn;t know it was a real house. And lol I also thought it was a married couple. Thank you so much the video, glad you ran across this. Enjoy and be safe on your travels.
Fascinating video, Chris! Thanks for taking us there!
Love the screen in porch, it's a beautiful house, seen the painting in several places and magazines I didn't know it was a real house in the mid west , husband and wife living on a farm painting
I also thought it was a man and wife. Well, now we know. Thank you, Chris. I really like that house. I wish we could have seen the inside.
Never knew it was a real house in the painting thank you Chris take care.
Thank you, Chris! ❤
I love this house. I wish you would have gone round the back and looked inside the sunroom.
Glad they never moved it, it looks just fine where it is! A piece of well known art history!
Another great video Chris! Thank-you so much! And safe travels 💕
Sometimes the unexpected gems are the best.Great video as ever
Have that painting in my old farmhouse!
Is pretty cool , nice to the back story 🇺🇸
Wonderful Chris! Having spent a good portion of my life in Minnesota, the "American Gothic" painting is a favorite. Next time I'm in Iowa I'll stop by. Ciao!
Another great interesting video Chris. Thanks for sharing 👊👍🇬🇧🇺🇸
Very cool, Chris. I love these kinds of visits. Would love to see you visit the school in The Birds.
Never knew it existed. It is pretty cool!
Excellent job. I really knew nothing about the history of this painting. I thought it was just some painter that had a lot of skills imagined it in his mind and the people weren't real the house wasn't real. The back story to this painting after seeing it for 43 years off and on makes it even more special. Thank you so much for sharing the picture now I have some trivial knowledge trivia knowledge I mean and I'm going to ask people do you think the man and the woman her husband and wife?
OK you stood in a famous painting but I can top that. While hiking Yosemite I took a dump in an Ansel Adams photograph. It was surreal! Great video. I didn't know this house really existed.
Thank You for this!
They should make this into an air b&b! It’s beautiful & I’m hoping to get there one day. What a great piece of history, I’m glad it’s still standing.
I'm glad if it doesn't become an airbnb. I don't think the american gothic house needs drunken parties in it!
@@linollieum3742 Ah. I’m not an irresponsible, disrespectful a-hole so I don’t think of using air b&bs for that purpose. It would be a unique place to stay (like the giant potato or the underwater hotel in the keys).
What a beautiful house. Love your videos!!
This is so interesting, seen the photo many times, great video thank you. 😊
That is too cool!! I thought the whole thing was just a painting, never knew it was a real house and real people lol. Who'd have thought they were the artist's sister and dentist LMBO 😂😂😂
Another great video. You find some very interesting things. 👍👍
That was a awesome story thanks so much. I love your videos you post
Cool thanks for sharing 👍
That was awesome. Good to know
Great job! very interesting.
Great info
Thanks much
Great video man thumbs up my friend
Oh wow that's really awesome!!!
As a big fan of art, it's difficult to put into words how much I enjoyed this. (so I won't even try. ;-) Coool, thanks.
That’s soooo koooool ! I have always wonder.
just love your videos.
Very interesting thanks!
Very cool!
I love Rocky Horror Picture Show movie with Tim curry and they recreated the look at the wedding scene 😊
Thank you very interesting.
Allways assumed, man and wife.
Good one Chris, who'd have thought!
👍👍👍
he must've added the red barn in the background, i didn't see one nearby, unless there used to be one there and it's gone now?
Cool vlog
Very very cool 😎
Your truly right its not just a house your look at a peace of history something way past or time in a value of such evidence is just horific!!! By the way Real impressed on how you explain your vids and give a brief intell on this historical peace and place of joy.
It's even in the rocky horror picture show 😁
Your a super cool Man....
Very internet video! Thanks so much ❤️
Wow!
Fantastic. I never knew the house was real or still in existence. Thank you for taking us there! I wonder if it's owned by the city or by the Dibble family. I'm betting the city or st
State. Sorry for the typo.
I learned something new today (man & daughter, not wife).
Absolutely
1930?! I thought the painting was much older than that. I too thought it was a husband & wife.
So weird, in my mind it is a big farm house. Now that I look at the painting you can see it's smaller.
Neat😊
Do they do tours of the inside of the house.
I HAD to click on the video after seeing the thumbnail pic!
Haha 👍
I "have to" say it. It's based on the intro pic to the vid: "Are you photobombing AGAIN-N-N-N????"
There. Nice to get that off my chest. Wait. 😂🙃😁😆😇😜🤪🤫🤭
House is kinda creepy. As in Psycho house creepy! "Norman, bring me my coffee!!"
Very Intersting
🎊🎄🇮🇳🎄🎊
Grant wood is distant kin to actor Elijah wood. Both from Iowa.
A American classic I believe. Now that you told us I can see father and daughter. I will forever see sister and dentist now. 😂
Mandela effect thinking it was moved
cool I'm an Iowan lol
Dude you were like a mile away from Roseanne Barr and Tom Arnold's abandoned house in the woods
👍✌
Never knew the house was real and the two people were supposed to be father and daughter
I also thought was husband & wife, interesting thnx
And a Jesse James cave
Does anyone live in the house.
this too cool, you too young for this pic,, chris, haha
You should have hmu I'm 20 min away and I can show you the cool stuff around here
Very cool!
