I always thought he said in the movie, at some point after a tasting, “a sousant of nutty edem cheese”. Watched Sideways recently and don’t recall hearing it. Please let me know if I’m right or wrong. Either way, I love saying it when any bottle of wine is opened. The gotcha is I’m Anosmic: I have no sense of smell or taste. Taste buds still work. Bitter, sweet, sour, salty. Also, chemical agents can have a physical trigger. Things like ammonia, bleach, etc. Thanks for letting me rant about anosmia. At least I can still see and hear. 🫧🫧 “Cinderella Man” is one of my favorite movies (based on performances). Paul was stupendous, as per his usual. Much love to you, gentleman. You all bring copious amounts of joy. 🫧🫧
The hour flew by because you felt like you were listening to old friends swapping stories! I consider Paul to be a modern day Gene Wilder. He can say a lot without saying anything at all! Nice job guys! Keep up the good work! I will check out his new show… it reminds me of “In search of…” with Leonard Nimoy.
OMG... one of THE BEST podcasts I've ever listened to. SO FUNNY. Paul is hilarious and a great foil for Dana AND David. Dana often gets criticized (rightly so) for interrupting guests, but this week he managed to hold back a bit and let David AND Paul talk and ask questions. I could literally listen to these three for a few hours... I was really disappointed when time was up. A+++
Dana - are you familiar with John Byner? He was doing micro-impressions long ago... Boris Karloff as an Italian waiter (... antipasto?...) John Wayne as a Priest (...dominus vo-biscum...). Ed Sullivan show & elsewhere. Great stuff.
Speaking of Thomas Heyden Church. He wrote, directed and played multiple rolls in the funniest movie no one has seen: Rolling Kansas. It has the best ending of any comedy thanks to him and Kevin Pollack.
Annan awesome interview. Wish you guys could've interviewed Phillip Seymour Hoffman. In addition, as a fan, it is just as great hearing you two riff as it is hearing from your guests. Get some brat packers on the show.
Paul Giamatti is the greatest actor ever. He's so amazing, he manages to be a genius at encapsulating, anger and frustration whilst caring so much knowledge and being so aware, he choose of scenery, this guy is so awesome it's amazing you guys had a podcast with him and he has a podcast because this man is so hugely influential and important to the acting world.
Incredible actor, Sideways is a classic, no fuckin Merlot. Plus, his Dad was a great baseball commissioner who tried to do a great job and not be corrupt.
The word 'nightmare' has nothing to do with horses.... Just in case anyone was about to take Dana's word for it and embarrass themselves at their local stables, sleep clinic, or etymology convention.
Might sound goofy, but I used to get sleep paralysis when I took melatonin. It always feels like I was being pulled off of my bed by something, but I couldn't move to pull myself back. Super sucky feeling, but what Paul said about feeling like someone wrapped their arms around him and was squeezing him... my last experience with sleep paralysis felt exactly like that. I thought my wife was doing it, but when I finally woke myself up, she wasn't in the room.
The 'mare' in 'nightmare' isn't connected to horses but is instead an old English word meaning 'demon'. I'll admit I just looked it up on Wikipedia, but I first got that from Jorge Luis Borges' 'Seven Nights'.... but don't mind me, I'm just being a know-it-all jackass....
The Shining is still the scariest of supernatural s***. When I was about 9 or 10 my stepdad took me to see Midnight Express. That’s a different kind of scary.
Nightmares don't have anything to do with horses. It's from the old English "mare" which means a demon or something. But it is definitely connected to sleep paralysis
The self humiliation is tied to everyone thinking they are the center of the universe. My problems are so important everyone else wants to know about them and if I say it funny then you have to laugh.
It was the first role I ever saw him in. (I was 16) And, every other time I saw him I would say "oh it's pig vomit!" It took me years to learn his real name. But after John Adams, I loved him so much.
The balls of David Space to criticise another podcast's name. "Fly On The Wall" is the least imaginative name for a podcast I've encountered. It's one up from calling it "The Podcast".
Love you both, long time fan, but you could have Phil Hartman on the show, I'm not listening to radio in 2023. Get your makeup on and find a camera, boys, there are 7 year old children on tiktok with more followers and that's criminal.
@@Wattamattau Wtf, was he killed in a home invasion?? I used to drink with him in Studio City, I kept urging him to keep a gun in the house but I bet he didn't listen. RIP to a legend
@@Wattamattau That would be really cool since I don't think there's a biography or documentary on him, would be nice to hear some things about him I've never heard. I just hope they film it because the 90s called and blah blah blah.
It seems odd to me why the concept of demons so often gets explained away as a natural phenomenon. Sleep paralysis, voices, exorcisms, even certain alien phenomena. So much of it could just be better explained by there being actual spiritual beings.
@@alberts1985 Actually, I'm not aware of many people who actually believ the Easter bunny exists. But there are literally millions, many with signifcant academic pedigree, who have had demonic interactions. Believe it or not there is pretty solid evidence of demonic entities. I believe the reason many people don't believe in it isn't because they've looked at the evidence and judged accordingly, but they've a priori determined that nothing can exist but matter. American Splendor is one of my favorites from Paul Giamatti. This is one of the best and funniest Fly On The Wall segments.

One of the best episodes ever! Hilarious! And I also loved the supernatural chat portion of the episode! 😂
YAAAAAAAAAAAAS! It was AWESOME. 🤣
I agree 100% Britt
One of your best interviews. Paul keeps up with you guys and he seems great.
Well he’d hv to keep up if he wants to finish a sentence w/Dana chewing up every second of silence.
It’s always kind of nice to hear your favourite people touch on somethings you feel the same about. Love Paul Giamatti’s work. 🙂
Paul is a fantastic guest loved the entire show.
Paul is a great actor ! I love all his movies ! Peace and love guys !

I had my doubts about this one fellas, but you guys nailed it! P.G. is a real nice guy, "watch this".
Love this show, love this channel. Awesome guests! Mad respeckt for Paul Giamatti!
Amazing..This is one might be my favorite!
"house keeping" I lost it LOL
Great actor never seen him in a bad role. Captivating on screen. Good get guys!
I love Paul. I love his movies. I love him in Billions. A treasure. 😊
Show reminds me of the 1999 St. Louis Rams Super Bowl season with THREE radio announcers and not one second of 'dead air' for 22 3-hour games.

Good one!
Love Giamatti! Barney’s version is a true sleeper hit! True definition of a true actor!
Can someone please upload the “Watch This” as an isolated part. I was dying at that part. “This is da best slice pizza you’ll ever have. Watch this…”
Original 30 coins was really good. Look forward to this adaptation.
Fun, funny, informative conversation again guys, 1.5 years is a milestone Dana and David
Great show, great underrated actor.
Great episode. I worked with a guy that used to say "and it" after everything he said. "Hand me that wrench, and it."
I can’t make sense of that.
Paul's 2005 episode of SNL is very fun!
Speaking of Thomas Heyden Church. He wrote, directed and played multiple rolls in the funniest movie no one has seen: Rolling Kansas. It has the best ending of any comedy thanks to him and Kevin Pollack.
Paul is so right about his analysis of Sideways. Thomas Haden Church’s character was the darker more screwed-up of the two.
Great interview as always. Loved it❤❤❤❤ Keep them coming
Paul’s a great actor.
This is a blunt worthy podcast with close friends!
I know you're filming, when do we get video! This epic podcast is on the shelf for me til video comes out

Love you Dana but really why have guests if you are going to do your own show over him?!!!
David is so quick and smart, deadpan. How cool would it be to make PG laugh.
I Love giamatti saying git'r done with the inflection of a dramatic actor. He should play him on Broadway.
Fun stuff dig the art bell vibes
