Entombed Dismember and Carnage used the HM Two, not Carcass or Obituary, Carcass eventually kind of pioneered using the Peavey Fifty One Fifty, and Obituary used rat pedals into marshalls.
@@pinkyellowblue007 My friends and I have pondered that for years, Morrisound used Mesa Boogie Mark Threes and Fours, and then eventually you see them use the Marshall Valvestates, the first Deicide and second Cannibal sound kind of similar, Cannibal used Crates live from what I saw, but my guess is either the Mesas or something Marshall sounding, great tone though, wish I new, check footage from that time and I think I see Marshalls.
Obituary uses Marshall Amps with Pro Co Rat pedal, with a boss SD-1, sometimes with a metal zone MT-1, A waah pedal and a noise gate. As the meat of the rythum, then with delay and reverb, chorus, tremelo standard other miscellaneous fex.
I'm glad Andertons is taking a step away from the usual rock/blues into more "acquired taste" genres but I still feel punk hasn't seen much of any light on here. Its probably the easiest genre for beginners on budget equipment and DIY enthusiasts.
@@xStabizorz I basically just bought the cheapest shit I could find, but I've got a tele-style guitar, a cheap lunchbox head, and a 4x12 cab for less than $400 USD. Sounds good enough for me!

Heck yeah man I got that HM300 in my board and that little pink box is no joke also that blackstar is dope I'm looking at that model right now or Boss katana awesome review man. Keep rocking😂🤟🎸
Very cool, I’ve actually been looking at a v guitar for a while. Kinda fell out of playing death metal, but anytime I hold a V it does make you play a certain way, and I do miss that. Also love the wah, but more for that stuff Carcass sound.
Charvel /Jackson + Crate with a Fane Medusa was sick back in the 90s. No idea what happened to that speaker. Peavey also killed it with the XXX, 5150, Rockmaster and Triumph.
@@StormdriverOne Had a HT Club40 MKII for a little while and sounded great for just about anything. Main difference in mine and the one shown in video is I had the Kentucky Special limited edition, being a Kentucky native myself I just had to. Main difference were the speakers being Screaming Eagles by Eminence (a Kentucky brand), colorway, and chicken knobs. Had to sell it because covid and unemployment but it was good fun for the few months I had to dick around with it.
I think if i was gona do death metal today i would go all digital cheapest 100 watt power amp into a mesa 2x12 with v30s and either a tonex or you could go really cheap and get a fanless mini pc you coukd do any metal sound you want
As a fan of death metal and guitar player who’s forte is death metal, I’ll give my opinion. The sound at 3:30 ish sounded good, but the tone after 6:00 was not for me. The amp sounded good by itself. In my experience, THE best guitar pedal for Death Metal I’ve ever played is Amp Tweaker’s Tight Metal Pro pedals (I use the TM2 Pro all the time), the new ones and the old ones if you can find them used. The tone I go for and achieve is reminiscent to Dying Fetus’s tone on Reign Supreme. And Amp Tweakers pedals were designed by James Brown, if you know you know.
I love death metal and tech death, but that Blackstar doesn't sound good. It doesn't have quite the grind and the fizz on top was a bit much. Do the 6505/5150 iconic fit into the budget in the UK? Definitely would have gone that route and added a Tubescreamer style boost. HM2/HM300 sound crushing into a slightly gainy clean or a gain channel with gain low. Not sure if they sell it anymore but I have the Misery Index Tight Metal pedal from Amptweaker. That thing into even a clean amp brings it at 18V, and it'll handle a boost well too. Hope to see more metal material as a fan of metal. It's a fun change from the other material
It would be helpful to flash the price of the piece of gear when talking about it, I know prices fluctuate. I wonder if a real HM-2w would have been too expensive for this budget🤔
Thanks for showing modern metal guys that massive mids aren’t everything. Coming from a more traditional metal background, I was very anti-high mids for a while, and I appreciate them, but scooping mids is the traditional sound that got metal where it is today.
Scooping the mids is the sound that got bedroom guitarists to sound like the records they listen to, but in an actual mixable context (both live and on record) you need mids.
@@tarkenton3895 I understand that, but I think a lot of moderns sounds have too much mids. A good example is After the Burial. The music could be really good, but that mid “halllll” sound is gross in a bad way.
Sounds too congested, boomy and harsh... My tips are: less bass on the amp and restore them with an eq in the fx loop... Other way around with mids and treble...then choose a guitar with better pickups, ideally emg81 (they're pretty affordable and are high output and defined).
Nice to see some attention to death metal gear, but the sound has no body at all and will get lost in a mix. And the swedish sound sounds terrible. The TC electronics Eyemaster is way better than the hm300 at almost the same pricepoint if you are looking for a budget hm-2 clone. And please use the amps distortion for the swedish sound.
I have them both (and 5 original HM-2s, amongst many other clones) and they both get exactly the sound (with a slight tweak for the HM 300). They are both Behringer products, as they own the TC brand and they are basically the same circuit. As you know, the Eyemaster has no tone adjustment which some might want. He should have backed off the amp's bass and ran it on the gain channel, then it would have sounded good.
@@baldyhead I read it before that they have the same circuit, but my eyemaster sounds different/better than my hm300. I released a solo album this year and recorded it with my eyemaster pedal. Order 227 - Rattenkrieg, if you are interested how my eyemaster sounds.
@@iimmolarious7636 I guess they can vary - just like the original. One of my favourite cheap clones is the Arion Metal Master. I'll check out your music. Cheers.
If they did a black metal rig, they'll need to find an affordable black guitar while the affordable amplifier has to have the eq with less bass and mids. more treble. Also needs some cheap microphone they have to record some sh1tty audio sounds for that TRVE sound.
Yeah maybe Andertons need to take a closer look at their guitar staff ‘experts’. Swedish sound like Carcass and Obituary? At least Carcass are in Europe, kinda, but they weren’t in either of the OSDM camps, they weren’t really death metal, not for this purpose I would argue. Obituary?? Dude, Florida! And that sludge is from using some Rat. 🙄
