    Great to see a content creator using controller as that’s what the vast majority of GT players use. I’d be interested in a hairpin workaround for sure

    Funny thing is that some of the fastest drivers in the world on GT are on controller. Most people get so caught up in the "if you want to be serious about sim racing games that you have to play on a wheel" because Fanatec (a wheel company) and some other wheel brands sponsors alot of streamers, but there are a good number of players who don't stream and are in the top finishers in most races that are are very fast on controller, especially now with the PS5 dualsense basically giving the best input sensation for brake and throttle of any controller in the history of gaming.
    That is not hyperbole, the dualsense resistance triggers and haptic feedback support is an absolute gamechanger and from a technical standpoint it is on par if not better than the high end wheel setups for braking and throttle control. Where controller suffers, if there is a such thing in GT7, is in steering precision simply because its harder to get the right angle on a line right away due to analog sticks not having the same precise movement of the car as a wheel. There are obvious work arounds for controller since driving in a race is never 100% precise anyway but it takes time and many track hours to perfect.
    I drive on a wheel for the most part for general racing and if you are into racing games and can afford one definitely get a wheel.....I find the wheel to be best overall from an immersion standpoint, but from a pure gameplay perspective the PS5 haptic feedback support and resistance triggers holds its own against my very expensive wheel setup. I also play on controller for many of the license test, all of the dirt tracks, all of the drifting challenges and a good amount of the circuit experience sections for comparison. That being said controller players, on PS5 especially (sorry PS4 players I haven't played GT7 on a PS4 with a controller), are in a great place and in terms of gameplay it is easily the best the game has felt to play ever.

    • @Harmonic14
      @Harmonic14  2 года назад

      Controller is indeed very competitive, as it was in GT Sport, but there are many more top guys on wheel than pad. The top guys on controller also agree with me on its shortcomings, which is how we came up with the workaround I mentioned.
      Also, the haptic triggers are BAD for Gran Turismo. All they do is get in the way; they offer no useful feedback when they vibrate or get stronger. I've turned them off entirely. When they get to the usefulness and fidelity of the Xbox triggers, or at least Forza's implementation of the feedback system there, then I might try them again.

      @@Harmonic14
      Respectfully going to disagree with you on the haptic feedback support. When you are on wheel and using load cell pedals or hydraulic pedals, they offer a resistance (similar to a real car) to braking and accelerating that allows you to be much more nuanced in your control of the car. That resistance to your inputs allows you to be more deliberate with your braking on corner entry so as to slow the car down without having to slam on the brakes, which activates the abs and makes you slower. This gives you the ability to trail brake much much more cleaner than in a situation where you have no resistance to your input since you would have to gauge yourself home much input is needed to slow the car without triggering the antilock system. The haptic feedback also allows you to be more deliberate on your acceleration out of corners and at maintaining your speed through the longer corners, which gives you the abilty to be faster out of corners and allows you to carry that speed through the next straight. This is where most people will see huge time improvement because corner exit speed allows your car to maintain momentum from the corner as you pick up speed on the straight. The haptic feedback support in the dualsense mimics the resistance in load cell or hydraulic pedal feedback (albeit not at the same level) and allows you to be much more nuanced and controlled on a dualsense because of the haptic feedback than any controller on the market hands down.
      I think on games like Forza (all Forza games) on xbox or PC with the xbox controller, the game aims to be more arcade like in approach to driving so it favors the sort of slam on the accelerator, slam on the breaks approach that makes it possible to be fast without these things, but in GT since its aim is to lean much more along the lines of tradition sim racing you want to drive it more like a sim than a arcade racer. Now don't get me wrong, GT definitely will allow you to drive it like a arcade racer(although you will never be as fast as a someone using sim techniques) which is why alot of people put it into the same category as a Forza Motorsport or Project Cars 2. I think the difference between GT7 and those other games is that GT has that strong sim racer component that lets you take the gameplay to the next level. If we are talking about being competitively fast in GT then you definitely want to lean more on the sim mechanics, but in terms of just pure arcade enjoyment then yeah, haptics no haptics doesn't make much of a difference because then its more about speed than control of the speed which is what i think is the seperation of all sim racers.

    would be interesting to see you race with a wheel, i find it amazing how fast controller users are, my good friend often beats me in races using controller while im on a wheel, but he cannot repeat the same laptimes behind my wheel, he often outdose my times in qualifyings and licens tests, im in stron beliefe that the controller is much easier to drive, possibly to easy/fast.

    • @Harmonic14
      @Harmonic14  2 года назад

      I'm about half a second slower on wheel vs. controller (much closer on tracks with hairpins... Lol) but that's almost entirely because I rarely ever use it, whereas I've been playing racing games competitively with a controller for over 10 years. If I put a few solid months into wheel practice, I'm confident I'd be faster and more consistent than with controller.
