The children liked stabbing the bag although two of them already knew what was going to happen. After all the skewers were in the bag (and it was leaking), I asked them how do you get rid of the red (sins) in their character/soul (in the water). They jumped up and started pulling out the sticks one by one and listing things like "pray", "go to church", "go on a mission", etc. I was surprised but glad because my explanation would have been lame. Thanks for the activity.
To test and practice the skewer through the bag of water trick, I used an eye dropper to put a tiny dot of red food coloring at the midpoint of each skewer and let it dry. Then when I pushed them into the bag, the red dye slowly changed the clear water to pink. I hope to work up a dialog to incorporate that into the lesson.
