Yes, as many have noticed, small error in regards to Runaway Brain - it was released in 1995, not 1999, as I accidentally cited in this video. Unfortunately small issues do slip through the cracks when working at such a fast turn-over. I'm working harder at not making mistakes in future. Won't be re-doing the video over such a slip up - and I hope you otherwise enjoyed the video. If a small error is your only issue with this, I think I did a decent all-round job. Thanks as always. 😊
Like I said in my video, Dave, I did enjoy the video--your mistake notwithstanding. I'd even be more than happy to assist you with fact-checking on future videos.
It was actually Mickey’s 3rd official and longest running (and my personal favorite) voice actor Wayne Allwine, the original would’ve been Walt Disney. Russi wasn’t the original Minnie voice either, but Wayne and Russi were a beautiful married couple that will forever be my favorite mice and I hope have been reunited in heaven
@@FreeSpiritPauletteYeah but you left out that the original voice actress for Minnie was Marcellite Garner or if you want to be accurate Marjorie Ralston who while not married to Walt Disney still worked for him in the ink and paint department before they voiced Minnie.
People don't seem to realize how amazing the new Paul Ruddish Mickey Mouse shorts are. They revitalized and mashed up the best parts of all the characters, (except Goofy), and brought back a comedic style of animation in a bright and interesting way. Mickey and Minnie's relationship is a mix of the classic 20s and more lovey dovey 50s. They even brought back her spunky attitude as well as Mickey's while at the same time keeping their lovable sides. Don't even get me started on the rubberhose style and the episodes in foreign countries, I honestly love those shorts so much! I can see why people don't like Goofy as he is a bit unnerving to look at and the gross out humor is a bit much sometimes, but they are for the most part fantastic! I wish people would bash on them less, they bring me so much happiness and so many good memories...
The Mickey Mouse remake made me fall in love with the characters. I used to think Mickey Mouse was just for Little Kids growing up with the likes of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Until the reboot came out they are hilarious. And made me fall in love with the characters. Before I couldn't describe Mickey Mouse. Now I know he is the straight man, the overly upbeat and nice goody two shows who is a little bit Mischievous. He is brave, he loves Minnie, he always sticks up for his friends, and he is a bit mischievous.
The Paul Ruddish Mickey Mouse shorts are indeed brilliant. I especially love that they based the looks of the characters on their 1930's designs, which are my favorite designs to by far. The humor is top notch and fast-paced while still reminiscent of the humor back in the day. This cartoon just suffers from the classic problem of people not liking the modern design of the shorts with the hyperanimation we see in so many cartoons these days and won't give those shorts the chance they deserve. But those who put in the effort to look at them with an open mind soon realize how great these shorts really are.
I love the Mickey Mouse shorts it's just Mickey's voice. In the earlier episodes it was over the top in some areas but it fit. The latest ones i'm gonna flat out say it, he sounds pretty gay
Yeah, pretty much. This version of Mickey has a lot of personality, even if I loved him I always found him a bit flat or goodie, too goodie (if you compare him with Bugs Bunny, which has a lot of charisma). I didn't like this new Goofy's personality either (the design is ok I guess), they killed this character's dumb but caring side (I grew up with ''A Goofy movie'' and the funny sport adds featuring Goofy). Now he's more like a jerk, no offense.
My favorite Minnie is probably the Three Musketeers one, it was almost poking fun of the "everything is about romance" princess but keeping her grounded and serious when needed be. Then again, that is probably one of, if not my favorite Mickey & co movie ever. They're just a delight to watch.
Maybe you could do a couple smaller characters in one video or a series of videos! Clarabelle, chip and dale, Scrooge mcduck, etc! Honestly I love these videos and learning all I can about the characters!
Thank you! Certainly want to work my way through most of the well known and not-so-well known characters. Still thinking of ways to do it properly! But thanks for the suggestion!! 😊
Minnie was definitely cooler in the beginning. Really any time that she's a sassy foil for Mickey is where I think she shines best. But I did love her in Mickey's Surprise Party. The animation in that one is awesome.
I was born in 2003 and I gotta say when I looked at the late 1930s animation of minnie I couldn't help to think of how cute she looked there. Such a unique art style. Kind of made me have a crush on her a bit.
My favorite Minnie appearance is probably The Three Musketeers, just because her lovey-dovey personality is taken to a humorous extreme going full ham with the corniness.
i think her scenes with Daisy were very funny, for me, along with a few of her appearances in the modern Mickey Mouse shorts, these are her funniest appearances to date.
Maybe it's because I was an 80s kid but I still love Minnie most when she's depicted in 'modern' casual clothing like Totally Minnie. The other dresses are iconic, hands down, but that fashionista aspect of her comes out much more in other outfits. Like any girl is satisfied with just one or two dresses over the course of 90 years haha. Love this, thanks so much~
Definitely agree with this. I'm really happy that Minnie has had her own shows, and I'm glad her and Mickey are back being depicted together again, too~
I always loved her cute little flower hat. I think her newest outfit has the best of all her design schemes, though I'm still getting used to the ultra-graphic style as opposed to the softer look of the squash and stretch designs...
My favorite Minnie Mouse appearance is her brief but special role in the Paul Rudish short Ku’u Lei Melody. Although her appearance is is minimal, the whole cartoon centers around Mickey finding her. I think it really shows how special their relationship is. I think it’s a great tribute to the pair of them and it’s a sweet, well-thought-out, magical story.
I think the blue bow and skirt look the best on Minnie, maybe because it's a nice contrast to Mickey whose iconic color is red. But red looks good on her too.
I was obsessed with Minnie when I was a kid. I had lots of Minnie toys, bedspreads and room themes, bback packs, school supplies and of cpurse her cartoon shorts. I had a few birthday theme parties too, so shes one of my favorites. Im a 90s kid, so I prefer her 80 through 90s look.
I love your "Evolution of" videos, they are very well done and entertaining. I would love to see one on Pete soon, he's been there since the beginning, he seldom gets attention and he probably has the most interesting history. In any case, love the vids and keep up the good work.
Fantastic Video! I’ve been greatly enjoying your Evolution videos on Mickey and the gang, I’ve watched all of the shorts shown in your video on the amazing Walt Disney Treasures DVDs. Keep up the great work! 😄
That's right. As a matter of fact, there's a statue of Roy Disney at one of the Disney Parks that has Minnie sitting next to him just as how Walt Disney had Mickey with him thus revealing that Minnie and Minnie's duoship is actually (and probably loosely) inspired by the partnership of the Disney Bros.
I like Minnie in both her red polka dot dress and her blue dress with a pink bow. Mickey is sure lucky to have her. Mickey and Minnie are my most favorite Disney couple.
Even as a kid I always felt it was a pity that the collections of Minnie shorts showcased her herself very little. I suppose this video put that development into perspective.
What's interesting is that, in some material you can see Minnie Mouse in her newest design but with a red bow instead of her bowler hat. You can see an example of this in Mickey's Mix Magic. Most of the animation of Minnie you see in that show is recycled from the new cartoons(with the bowler hat), but there's some seconds of new(I think?) animation of her with a bow.
I think my favorite with Minnie is Adorable Couple, although Eau du Minnie was great too! Actually all of her appearances in the new Mickey Mouse Shorts are awesome!
Red with white dots would my favorite but I love whatever she wears ; I took home 1st for best costume twice in 2013 at different Halloween parties wearing Minnie's fashion. When my daughter was born in 2015 I always put a bow on her head she went no where without a bow like Minnie's. I LOVE MINNIE MOUSE and R. I. P to her last voice.
It's called "reboot". They don't have to appear as old people. For example; Minnie Mouse with a blue dress and a red hat would be an old woman, including alternate versions depending on when first appeared by being remodeled. Think about it.
I remember watching clips of some cartoons Minnie appeared in on some Disney singalong videos when I was a kid in the 90s. Ever since I was 5, I always loved the outfits I’ve seen Minnie wear in the Disney singalong videos that took place in Disney theme parks, including her iconic red polka dotted dress. She became the most recent Disney character to have a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in 2018.
Can you also do Scrooge McDuck, please? And other Duck family members Huey, Dewey and Louie. I'm a fan of Disney and their comics, especially Donald and Scrooge's comic and the reboot of Ducktales that I would love to watch your narrated history of these lovable Disney Ducks.
During the war years women took the place of men in the work place and factories while the guys were off fighting so Minnie’s depiction as a housewife through WWII would have been considered a throw back to a simper time (think of the film ‘The Best Years of Our Lives’) not a reflection of the role of the contemporary woman. Minnie’s continued focus (post the war years) In the home was then subtle propaganda that ensured women and girls got the message that with the return of men from the battle field it was time to return to domestic work...and we all know how that turned out.
There was one time were Minnie was given a tuft of hair on her head during the animated film; The Three Musketeers. In the film she was a princess, wore a crown and the tuft of hair was sat in front of it. It was a one time design, but it was still an interesting look for her.
Very interesting video Dave, personally I've never really been a fan of Minnie Mouse, her character just seems underwhelming, probably because she's often in Mickey's shadow, great video mate.👍😀👍
Disney's Sensational Six & Pete during WW2: Mickey retired. Pete became a US General. Donald & Pluto became war propaganda. Goofy stayed a comedian. Minnie became a domestic woman doing house work and kitchen work. Daisy was just introduced and not a important character yet. A weird time to behold.
Next up: Daisy Duck! And Mickey and Minnie are the everlasting couple goals. 91 years together and they never aged one bit (< just a little pun right there, not trying to stir up heat with some)! Though Donald and Daisy are the definite Disney couple in my opinion. Maybe my Disney alter ego would be Donald Duck! Lol #DonaldDuck2020
Mickey and Minnie are for people who want to date their clone. Donald and Daisy are for realists who know you're going to fight with your life partner a lot but that's okay. As for me, I like the interspecies bunny and cat, because who needs convention? ;)
Carter Lovejoy: Depends. In the comics she keeps on telling him what a loser he is but keeps on dating him but occaisonally cheats on him with that lucky duck.
Seeing so many of these cartoons is making me grin! This is both a great history lesson, and a nostalgic trip to the past! It's pretty sad to see they did her dirty during the 40s and 50s tho...
Happy birthday Happy birthday Happy birthday to a super duper guy Happy Birthday Happy Birthday you're the apple if my eye. He's the sweetest beau and he's so cute. This is the day he got his birthday suit. Happy birthday Happy birthday let the laughter fill the house Happy Birthday Happy Birthday Happy Birthday Mickey Mouse
I just bought a couple of double bell alarm clocks featuring Minnie, which were both made by Bradley and made in Germany. The Minnie illustration on both clocks seem to be from the same time period as she has the “pie-eyes” and she is wearing a bowler hat on both, but one of the illustrations doesn’t have the iconic flower protruding out from it. Do you know whether at any time in her evolution, she was illustrated without that iconic flower in her hat?
Minnie’s worn hundreds, if not thousands of costumes over the last 90 years. This video is not about every single costume she has ever worn, it’s about the most important changes in her design Evolution. It’s quite possible the blue dress / pink bow combo is designed for marketing only, and not form any specific cartoon.
Mickey x Minnie is the best ship also did you know that Minnie and Mickey are in love with each other also their original voice actors got married in real life???
Actually Minnie's first appearance in CGI animation was actually in 2002's Kingdom hearts. She appeared as queen Minnie, the acting sovereign of Disney Castle as Mickey had left to find the "key". She would later appear in the sequels. Her appearance in Mickey's twice upon a Christmas was much different that than her in game model which counts towards a redesign
it could be interesting to hear more about this downfall of classic Disney character around walts death and before it. I've always kinda watched those old cartoons from vhs and although ducktales was ok, it wasn't nearly as much fun as classic characters in old slapstick like environments. There were also lots of other shows and also some Mickey cartoons in 80s, but the quality wasn't as good as in the golden ages. Also it's weird how hard is it to see those classic cartoon in tv here in Finland. I guess they want to sell those new ones rather than showing old stuff again.
Personally I love Minnie from the 2013+ shorts as she retains her classic looks but acts in a modern fashion. Shes just soooo sweet and cute, I can see why Pete kidnaps her!
Why do you always skip House of Mouse? I know it re-uses Mickey Mouse Works shorts, but the bridging sequences have Mickey and the gang in different clothes to what they wear in the shorts.
By the way, the 2020s saw Minnie begin to wear pants with her captain’s outfit on the Disney cruise lines, & not everybody was happy with the new pantsuit Minnie began wearing at Disneyland Paris in 2022. But I’ll always love Minnie no matter what she wears. Whether she wears pants or her iconic polka dotted dresses, Minnie will always be one of my favorite Disney friends of all time.
Never said there was anything wrong with it. But let’s face it - if a main female character, in this day and age, was depicted solely in the house, doing household chores, people would take issue with it.
The thing is: In the 20s she was supposed to be a flapper which was progressive and still is seen as progressive as these girls didn‘t conform to morals and the norm. They sported short hair and were more liberated and did a lot of others things that weren‘t the norm. If she changed from being a flapper-ish girl in the 20/30s to an American Housewife in the 40s that is a drastic change!
Well, the 1940s saw women entering the workforce since most of the men were out to war - except Mickey, who we have established was a draft dodger. However, are Minnie and Mickey married? Usually I think she refers to him as her boyfriend at most. Who the hell is paying Minnie's bills if she is a housewife? Is Mickey her guy on the side!? Is Minnie married to some other dude, who pays all her bills, while she does the chores, then spends her weekends banging Mickey!?

Carter Lovejoy: Depends. In the comics she keeps on telling him what a loser he is but keeps on dating him but occaisonally cheats on him with that lucky duck.
Denise Nova so the answer to them is a dysfunctional couple. Right?
Seeing so many of these cartoons is making me grin! This is both a great history lesson, and a nostalgic trip to the past!
It's pretty sad to see they did her dirty during the 40s and 50s tho...
Happy birthday Happy birthday Happy birthday to a super duper guy Happy Birthday Happy Birthday you're the apple if my eye. He's the sweetest beau and he's so cute. This is the day he got his birthday suit. Happy birthday Happy birthday let the laughter fill the house Happy Birthday Happy Birthday Happy Birthday Mickey Mouse
It’s spelled “beau”.
Rest in piece, Minnie..
I'm still here, murdering children
I'd like to see Daisy Duck next.
Sorry Pete's next
Great work!
I love minnie mouse, I love the way she speaks politely and I love her bow
Me too! Minnie was definitely one of my favorites, she still is! Always have loved her!
Mickey mouse shorts designs are my favorite i think I'm biase
I wish you mentioned that in one of the recent Mickey Mouse shorts Minnie wears her old pink clubhouse dress again and jokes that its "too young"
They are great characters
OMG LUD HOUSE
I just bought a couple of double bell alarm clocks featuring Minnie, which were both made by Bradley and made in Germany. The Minnie illustration on both clocks seem to be from the same time period as she has the “pie-eyes” and she is wearing a bowler hat on both, but one of the illustrations doesn’t have the iconic flower protruding out from it. Do you know whether at any time in her evolution, she was illustrated without that iconic flower in her hat?

Nice cartoon.
Minnie is the best!
I think my favorite appearance says I have to be how she looked in nifty nineties and brave little tailor as well as totally minnie
I’m surprised you didn’t add the one where she wears a blue dress and a pink bow. You see it in all the stores now
Minnie’s worn hundreds, if not thousands of costumes over the last 90 years. This video is not about every single costume she has ever worn, it’s about the most important changes in her design Evolution. It’s quite possible the blue dress / pink bow combo is designed for marketing only, and not form any specific cartoon.
I kinda dug her "House of Mouse" design with the smaller hairclip-like side bow. Short-lived but a rather clever modernization of the head bow.
9:08 Mickey : Minnie pull out the shot gun! Minnie: why Mikey? Mickey : Fefe is eating me! Minnie: oh she's only playing. Mickey : MINNIE IM GETTING DIGESTED! Minnie: oh stop being so dramatic. Mickey : : (
I wish Minnie and Daisy both didn’t wear a bow, it would be more unique for one character.
13:20 mickey is gaming
Minnie is my #1 Disney girl - I happened to tape Totally Minnie when it aired on the Disney Channel long ago. She was my idol growing up.
This video is about films, not video games.
Alriiight, let's get to my boi Horace Horsecollar!
great video!!!
ive really seen more of the cartoons from the 20s -50s than i have anything made since the sixties, and im gen z
The Evolution of the Sentennial Six duration is getting longer.
*I bet Daisy's evolution is longer*
Wut? 🤣
it could be interesting to hear more about this downfall of classic Disney character around walts death and before it.
My favorite design of Mickey and Minnie is mid to late 1930's.
When are you gonna do Daisy Duck?
Sooner than later
Minnie is my favorite Character
Why do you always skip House of Mouse? I know it re-uses Mickey Mouse Works shorts, but the bridging sequences have Mickey and the gang in different clothes to what they wear in the shorts.
Because it’s the exact same design, and I skip it for the same reason I only make mention of 5% of the classic animated shorts.
There is nothing wrong with being a housewife some people choose to be. Although it does make the cartoons less fun always being stuck in house.
@@DaveLeeDownUnder Well we got Marge Simpson and Lois Griffin.
@@denisenova7494 maybe she just grew up? young & carefree then got married & settled down
Well, the 1940s saw women entering the workforce since most of the men were out to war - except Mickey, who we have established was a draft dodger.
