the only rock band i know that is popular among rock fans is greta van fleet.
@@luzviminda795 Those guys are just fine, tbh they are too much like Led Zeppelin to make them compelling, but they are talented.
You just gotta look beneath the surface. There has always been an abundance of awful music filling the charts and there always will be, it’s just more prevalent now. Look at Velvet Underground & Nico, barely anyone bought that record at the time yet now it’s revered as one of the most important albums ever. Or Dinosaur Jr in the ‘80s, just making great music while the mainstream were obsessing over anthem rock and macho masculinity. There’s plenty of great bands out there today who don’t just sound like every other band in the genre (ahem Greta Van Fleet), see Yak, The Beths, Big Thief, Dry Cleaning, Yard Act…
This video perfectly portrays the evolution of rock music. Its shows how rock went from your typical uplifting rock n roll to having many different categories like 'metal', 'punk', 'alternative' and 'indie'.
Yup and finally to 'trash'.
Rock itself is in decline, and most good songs from back in the day don't even fit the modern meaning for "Rock", and mostly fall in one of the dozens of metal genres
I disagree. The late 60s-mid 70s had a lot more to it than the video portrays. King crimson, cream, funkadelic, Jethro Tull, Santana just to name a few, were pushing rock boundaries beyond the typical uplifting rock sound. All were progressive.
this is a weird comment
It’s amazing how much better pre-2000 was than post-2000.

It’s a rock evolution from 1960 to now and there isn’t one Rolling Stones song
wtf
At least they had Like a Rolling Stone 😂
@@charlotte9157 So, about stones' influence. They brought blues to the masses in the 60`s(ofc they didn't invent blues). Their Incredible songwriting skills (every rolling stone song is literally a hit) infuenced many other artists and their stage presence, mostly Mick Jagger's, is one of the best, if not the best. Their song "sympathy for the devil" has influenced many heavy metal bands. The stones were mire rebellious than other artists such as Cliff Richard or Adam Faith and you can see that influence to many later bands. But I guess all these things and more, because I don't know everything that they have done aren't enough to be considered infuencal to Rock.
@@charlotte9157 I didn't say that they brought blues to rock. They just made it popular. Maybe you are right, they weren't that infuencial but still many artists have been infuenced by them. They are very popular and because of that many people got into rock so that's that.

That's the thing. In the 60s to 90s, good music found you instead.
4:30 I love muse 😍
Aerosmith??? 73' Dream On, 98' I don't want to miss a thing. U2 ? 87' With Or without , 91' One. Scorpions? 84' Rock You like a hurricane, 90' Wind of change . Rolling Stones? 65' Satisfaction, 78 Miss You .. excelent 71' Stairway from Zepp ! but 69' Whole Lotta love ;)
All of them should be included.
They put bands like nickelback, but I can’t see slash with Myles kennedy
Nah Whole Lotta Love is overrated man
Sadly. Money was once of those song(riff) that change the rock scene, and got released at that time thou
With or without you isnt a good song. Something like red hill mining town would be way better from the Joshua tree
An absolute decrease as the years pass by… great until the end of the 90s.
I can name a dozen great rock albums released in the 2000’s and some in the 2010’s. Hell, there have been at least a couple amazing rock albums this year.
2000s was one of the best decades for rock music, up there with the 90s
Linkin Park's "In the End" was released in 2000, not 2002
However, the difference in popularity between the rock hits of the 2000s and the rock hits of the 2010s is impressive.
It's a break that took place between 2008 and 2010 that well photographs the end of rock as a mass phenomenon.
And "Don't Stop Believin'" was released in 1981, not 1980.
And it’s nu-metal not rock 😂
The rock music died with the popularity of the internet
@@patrikeluisbritz4912 That's ridiculous. I don't even know how you came to that conclusion.
The list could be a lot better
No Ramones, no Sex Pistols, no Clash, no Génesis, no Cure, no Stooges, no New York Dolls, no Sonic Youth, no Pixies, no Joy Division, no Pulp, no Blur, no Libertines, no Nick Cave.
?
It's one song per year, obviously not every great artist and band can appear
No The Who , no Rolling Stones
No Rolling Stones …
@@thehunter3387 The most important... Why they don't put My Generation in 65'? Or Won't get fooled again in 71' (IMO, so much better than Stairway)
It’s interesting to see that ebb and flow of starting off with a very basic, straight-ahead sound, then slowly becoming more commercialized, then going back to basics again, then so on and so forth.
Looks like right around the mid 90s everything just fell apart
Fr
el scorcho doesnt deserve this
I don’t care about anything else I’m just happy that Uprising was the song for 2009
There should be more than just one Muse song
Yes ! Muse here ! More Muse !
1:50 Ah, I remember listening to this song when I was a kid in the car on the highway at night. Good times!
Ah good old days
71-Stairway, 75-Boherap, 91-Teen Spirit
I was sure about these ones
I like how once it hit 1988, rock immediately changed.
I'm very glad to see Muse here ! So great band ! Thank's a lot !
Thank you for this 🤘
Twenty One Pilots definitely earned their spot in this list with that incredible album opener.
True 👌
||-//
They’ve dabbled in a few genres and atmospheres but I really think they nailed rock the most. Jumpsuit isn’t my favorite album opener (Ode to Sleep is) but for real, it’s an amazing song and really solid for that album.
No they didn't. They aren't rock they are pop.
@@fade_out-1971 Did you see the video
@@ij4927 yeah and they aren't rock. They are pop.
I like how the Crue didn’t even earn one spot
Hands down the '70s were the best!
70's are something incredible 😍
Bruh where's U2?
о приv
More pop
@@RipCreditsFMJ u2 are definitely not pop
@@jones848 rockpop
@@RipCreditsFMJ Their early stuff is just rock rock. Later stuff is more poppy but they've always been a rock band
This is actually a great playlist!
At least the strokes were on there
That’s literally why I watched the video lol, I just wanted to know if they were on the list like they should be
I was gonna throw hands if The Strokes weren't included
I miss the 90's..best days of my musical life..
I'm a rap fan so I can agree that the 90s was the best decade for music
@@thec.e.oofbasedindustries8013 rap is so much better now, so much more variation now
Somehow I know every song prior to when I was born (2002) but barely recognize anything after that.
There was 'Uprising' - I'm very satisfied ^^ awesome list, thanks
Haha, yes at least one Muse song
“Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey was released in 1981, not 1980.
In The End by Linkin Park was released in 2000, not 2002 so even bigger gap in there
@@Zephyr37Music no it was released in 2002
@@lilpp4791 Even if you ignore the fact that Hybrid Theory was released in the year 2000, which in the end was a part of, and select the single release date for rest of the world, the answer would still be October 2001 and not 2002
@@Zephyr37Music they probably put it in 2002 because that was the year it peaked as a single
@@gmt921 Yeah, now that could be a fair reason
The ending 80 and early 90s just awesome..
so happy Oasis is here, one of the best rock bands ever to exist
Meh not really

I disagree
Along with the song at 1:03 and comfortably numb
@@seabass8593 True dat
I'm glad we're coming out with some bangers these days but it's absolutely unfair the amount of bands that occurred in the last half a century that are absolute classic bands.
I'm sorry that is one aspect for the boomers are absolutely and rightfully spoiled.
It’s kinda an illusion. They had their fair share of trash it’s just been so long that most of them are pretty much gone from history and the rose tinted memories make it seem like they never existed.
Thank you for this amazing video through Our Lord Jesus Christ in His Holy Name Amen.
"I can't believe _____ wasn't included!"
They could only pick one song from each year. Don't like it? Make your own video.
It's so strange RHCP on the 2016. But really happy they still have it ❤
Shot in the dark by ACDC in 2020 would be a better choice, I think ACDC's new album slaps.
I think he was limiting 1 entry per band
Strokes
Fax
hell yeah it slaps
@@dhillos7282 Should’ve changed 1979’s to something else then.
I'm not sure how I feel about there not being an MCR song in here. Especially when "feel it still" is, which I think most people would agree isn't a rock song. It's Pop, maybe even a little r&b but not rock.
I disagree. Portugal the man rocks. No computers, just live instruments
half of these songs aren’t even rock😭
So true😫

What?
Rocknroll, alt rock, indie, punk etc. The list goes on ROCK is a huge genre of music with too many types to count.

I love Rock from the 60's until the 80's, I like some from the 90's but the last twenty years were not the greatest time for rock for sure.
Thanks for featuring breaking benjamin, they ROCK!
