At 1:37 you read my mind and answered everything perfectly, felt almost creepy. This video was packed full of useful information and until now i didn’t even know you could buy screw on ball nose mills. Perfect educational video.
You can buy screw on everything :P From drills, straigh end mills, ball end mills, chamfering tools or radius tools.
All in all, I learned a lot from this. I don't do much 5-axis with my crappy HAAS trunnion table. but I love information!! I've made some cool turbo exhaust manifolds for friends with it. But not a whole lot of production work.
I havnt programmed a part without using at least Opti-rough, Hybrid, Equal Scallop or Waterline in probably a year and half or better.
These truly are pure enjoyment and entertainment. Whatching my exact path params and manipulation come to life.
I also cannot say enough good about the DUO-LOCK. I actually picked up the Haimer 20 X 130 or 140 holder. Kennametals design and specs just licensed out to Haimer I believe.
These combos have taken my machining/ programming skill level up by around 35-40% efficiency and accuracy. Over the past few months.
DUO-LOCK stability in cuts allows me to push my machine that little bit harder then it’s ever been; without a worry in the world.

Sharing the thinking behind choosing a larger tool diameter and it's relationship to surface finish by not cutting closer to the center of the tool is the kind of knowledge that will definitely help the less experienced machinist that's great stuff that goes a long way toward passing along good practices. I'm guessing you have already broken this subject down in more detail to support this great example of in practice. Good stuff

You folks rock! I started the trade learning triple start feed screws and tracer mills! Things have changed, for the better. Programming and CAD are fun, if a tech is trained properly...and, you get paid to do it! There lies the problem. Be it code for gaming or code for CNC, too many employers not paying enough

Love the DMG and DMC Mori 5axis machine tools.
The deburr toolpath is awesome, I used it on a 4-axis part last week! I do find it annoying, though, that even though it defaults to 3-axis output, you still need the Multiaxis license, even if you are doing 3-axis machining.

I work at a company that most of their equipment is from the 50s and 60s and really neglected!
Our work is only in-house on mostly pumps and turbines.
Our access to tooling is pathetic!

Used those ball cutters but not with the dual lock system. Might have to mention that to our tool manager!
Great video and beautiful wall finish 🔥🔥🔥. However I was just wondering why you didn't use a circle segment cutter for accelerated finishing on the walls using a swarf toolpath?
I really wanted to use a circle segment tool here but at the last moment we just chose to go with a more traditional strategy so we went ahead and used the ballnose. I may still go back and program it with a circle segment tool just so I can see the time difference

How perfect is perfect?
So if software like this can show you exactly how the tools are going to cut the raw material, how can there still be bad/crash moves in the finished program? We deal with that issue a lot.
In my experience, this tends to be due to posting and setup issues. I used to run an older Haas mill and lathe that would occasionally interpret perfectly fine CAM instructions (on a new machine/on the machine the poster was made for) badly because of the post configuration being set up wrong, so a move the CAM thinks is going to go one way, the machine interprets a different way. Also on some machines you have really different interpretations of certain commands. I've never used one, but I know some machines do dogleg rapids where they can completely explode if you don't specify in your pathing that it needs to rapid one axis at a time.
What most folks don't seem to realize is that the simulation in the CAM software is not "running" the G code that the post processor will out put. If you have a crappy post, no matter the simulation shows you, there is still a possibility of a crash. I used to us PartMaker for CAM at my last shop. At least once a week I could be heard exclaiming " Fucking PartMaker!!". Things would look good in the simulation, but when tool touched metal the results were, how to say it? Less than optimal.

It's not like imperial is any less accurate you mong. You can use whatever you want, let them use imperial if they want.

We have many technologies and work to release videos on all. 5 Axis gets posted at least once a week… that doesn’t mean it’s not done or in edit etc.
