Great video guys 😃 We have been with Te Kura for two years and didn't know about the activity fund so thanks for sharing that. Also thanks for the pointer about mentioning that we home school when visiting museums etc. Glad to see you guys are all living your best lives 😀
Nice one Leopards 🙂 Cool to see how Te Kura works. The ministry told me we qualified for free but we were already homeschooling when we left the Auckland area so just kept doing what we were doing (which has evolved a bit over the years)…
there is a homeschool allowance paid out twice a year 🙂 It covers all our curriculum for the year and some extra-curricular stuff (swimming lessons etc) The old curriculum we used to use was really expensive and took the entire allowance 😬
Hi Leopards. Mike and Sophie, you sound like you have all things sorted. Good stuff. Knowing one or two, that were farming on islands, and on the high country stations, using correspondence lessons, as it was called back then, they seemed to do ok, but this Te Kura system seems to be quite simple, doesn't it.? All the very best, for your futures. That's for the kids. This was a brilliant episode folks. Mike your detailed explanation was a big help in understanding how the system works. But heck man, we gotta get you folks to the 10k subbers mark. I've recommended your channel to mates who I think would be interested. But I don't know if they have followed that through. Yet.!! Anyway take care. Stay warm. Think there's a cold front coming through. Stay safe. Cheers.
the Te Kura system is the same as the correspondence system. I guess as the year have gone by the options have increased which really make it so simple for the kids to excell from where ever they are in the country. It's worked really well for us so far. Yes bring on the 10k subs, what a mile stone thats' going to be.
@leopardsgowild the problem I find Mike, is that there's too many of my mates, both male and female, who are stuck on TV. But I guess like to think I'm prodding them in the direction of "Leopards go Wild." Cheers.
I just subscribed today, so glad I found yal! I'm Waikato based, but we’ve just been granted our exemption certificate to home educate 🎉 And I'm scouring throuh your videos as I start planning our road trips. Ngā mihi, kia pai tō rā, e te Whānau ❤
Kia Ora and welcome to our channel, glad you found us. We've had a blast the last couple of years on the road. Are you lot hitting the road full time or just adventures? We're Orginally from Rotorua, That's where our kids went to school before we hit the road.
Brilliant. I reckon your kids are getting a well-rounded education. It's not all about academia. From what I see in your weekly episodes, your kids are experiencing much more than the majority of kids who do regular schooling. And a big plus, is having Mum & Dad there to guide them. That doesn't happen in many families. Good on you guys. 😊
thanks mate. Having adults around to steer education is a big plus for sure. The things the kids learn on the road is incredible. Just parking up at the clyde dam, currently, talking about Dam's the spill way, then we have all the Natural Lemon thyme growing all over the hill side, and the crazy rock formations in the area, so many things to learn.
Great one !!!!! rileys american accent is hilarious lolol, epic vid, so many people with kids tell me this is impossible & i direct them to your channel. those kids are growing up with a respect for the world most dont have until theyre adults.. everyone looks happy! ALMOST AT 10K!??!?!?!!?!? insane dude! have a great day! see yah in the next1!
Thanks bro... Our kids have such an appreciation for Nature. Full time travel is totally possible, creating revenue or an income can be a challenge but if your willing to work you can make it happen aye. Everyone is totally happy, we all love the life style, although at times the kids would love to have some other kids around. We've spend the last month with other families so that has been good for them. 10k... coming up slowly again lol.
Thanks for an insight into your guys schooling adventure. Its amazing what can be achieved each day Mike, and having kids that are motivated really helps. Four of our our 7 kids went to school up to just before intermediate, then we pulled them out to homeschool, our kids would leave home at 7.45 am and get home at 4pm, we felt like we never saw them, dairy farming is a huge time commitment in itself. Our kids did really well and like yours, were motivated, some of them were up doing school work at 6am and have lessons for day done by 9am. You are very fortunate too, in that your guys are learning geography science etc, first hand by the things youdo and places you visit, you are out there in an amazing class room, Leopards. Mike did you get my email, I sent a picture of a T-Rex head skull our eldest son has 3d printed, thought Toby might be keen to see it, if he is I'll send some more of dino's he has printed.
thanks mate. Yes we love the home schooling life style as well, so much more freedom and flexibility and with half the dramas occuring in the school system these days it's nice to know they are away from it. yes I received the email, but I didn't reply sorry, I get quite a bit of emails these days. Thanks for the comment and thinking of us.
Watched this with Naomi, she's now asking if we can home school and live on the road, we'll presented Mike, easy to follow and lots of nice little tips etc
Cheers mate... road schooling with Naomi lol. you guys have Christmas travel plans? I think I asked earlier, can't remember if you replied or I forgot.
Awesome video update, great to hear about the progress. It's crazy to think that we're only 2 years from Accalia being in the school system. Hopefully we can do some time on the road once she's a little older. Sounds like Te Kura Is working out great for you guys, and really good flexibility. Antarctica is awesome Toby, sure an interesting place to visit if you ever have a chance
Thanks Garth. Antartica is so on my list, I'd love to go there. Accalia, is growing up so fast aye, first time we meet you she was just crawling. Te Kura is a great asset, and we have a great teacher, who is really on the same page with us and what we are doing.
What a wonderful lifestyle, experiencing nature as well as full-time parenting. You are doing well, not that you need anyone else approval. While I was teaching part-time four decades ago at my children's school, I'd incorporate homeschooling days these were much appreciated by my children which they mentioned years later which I'm sure your children will share with friends as adults, the books they may write. I look forward to all your videos while imagining I'm there in nature. Have you met any seniors living full-time van life, as I'm seriously planing this as an option.
Oh yea thats great. Our kids love the idea of returning to school one day, which will likely happen but not next year, we'll see after another year on the road. I think the learnings they have from travel and 1 - 1 parents helpping them through their school work is going to be amazing for them.
@@leopardsgowild Having the support from the Te Kura System is brilliant. If only we had this back in the eighties. One can be anywhere on this planet thanks to the internet etc. May you and your children cherish these years wholeheartedly. Wishing you great years ahead.
@@a-k6575 awwww thanks so much for that... Yes it's amazing the connection they can have with their teacher and other kids in their learning classes. It's been great for them to do some learning online, But I'm also a big fan of them doing the book work and hand writing etc as well, which is also provided. I think it's a good set up
They will be so much better prepared for live than any kid just sitting in school ans than sitting at home with their iPads. If that would have been an option for us, we would have done that for sure.
Our kids spend most of their time outside which is so nice. When we are with other travelling families it's the same which is so refreshing. Of course they ask to watch a tv show or a movie, but thats normally after dinner and a whole day outside playing.
@ I bet sometimes it's not easy but boy, what an awesome way to grow up. You guys are doing everything right 😄👍 we are very unconventional as well with moving continents 4 times but our kids turned out awesome. Things like that create very strong family bonds.

Cool to see how Te Kura works.

its nice getting access to the resources. Do you guys get and funding support for school supplies etc.

Thanks Mike for giving an inside view of home schooling.
You both are doing a fantastic job and I sure the kids are having a ball.
cheers... Yes, there was def an adjustement phase, but everyones well on track now, parents included lol
Interesting video on the kids education .Sounds like it is working well. Travel is a great education as well. Thanks for sharing.
It really does work well, the kids love it, well most of the time, it's awesome to have the flexibility.

Great Video, fantastic subject, based on your video flexibility is the key, on the kids, parents and Teachers, thanks for sharing
Thanks mate. Yes flexiability is a key component to make it all work.
next time your in wellington jump over the hill to masterton and go to the fablab for a great learning experience. (It's free)
Thanks for the tip! We have that area on our list, all along the Wairarapa Coast.

good thought, anyone who reads this comment, our kids are aged. 12, 11, 9. But when we started kids were, 10, 8, 6.
