Francesco Cirillo the inventor of the pomodoro technique suggests using a wind up kitchen timer for these reasons: the ticking is calming, the act of winding up a kitchen timer is a declaration of your determination ti start working, it clearly shows the time you have left, the clicking sound helps us to feel time. I have used phone apps, watch settings and Alexa and just recently broke down and spent $9.00 at Target for a wind up, and the difference is remarkable. I am sold on the wind up.

I would suggest you to put the letter of each key above on the board very clearly so that the learners can see where your fingers go when you play.

Thank you, very helpful! All these steps, quarterly practice, songs, staying focused on the areas of a song that are challenging, and to persevere my practice Listening to the song first, then playing along with the playback speed adjuster is great!😄

Thanks for sharing these tips! I like how you show us outside resources (like Pomodoro or the playback speed adjuster or your handbook) that we can easily find and use. As for my biggest struggle when practicing, it's knowing which songs to tackle first. I have a few songs I'd like to know how to play, but I don't know which ones would be easier to learn. To me, it makes the most sense to learn the easy ones first, but I can't tell which ones those are!

Jonathan, I’d start with songs you’re most inspired to learn and work on 2-4 at a time! You’ve got this! 🎹

What I have found is that it doesn’t matter what or how I play. I improve if I practice for longer. Your videos help because they help me practice a bit more.

What I find most challenging about piano practice is what to practice. Yes I have my song but how do I warm up? What chords should I learn? What scales should I practice. Should I be using Hanon exercises. Improvising, how as a beginner do I practice improvising? the very word suggests doing your own thing, but, as a beginner how do I know what my own thing is? 😊 working full time leaves me limited time to practice so, coming back to my original problem…. What should I practice !!! 😮

You're a great piano teacher, with clear ideas, great techniques, and easy-to-follow video lessons. I addition to the Pomodoro technique, I'd add the "Curry technique" (ok, I named this after Steph Curry, the greatest shooter in NBA history). It involves putting in 100s and 100s of hours of practicing each technique you find that helps (for Curry, it included dribbling drills, practicing shooting off the wrong foot, and, duh, 3s). Every truly successful person put in significant time (e.g., 10,000 hours) at their chosen profession and craft. Think Mozart (the son of a music teacher) and Michael Jordan (who did not make his high school varsity team as a sophomore). There is no substitute for putting in the time.

Hello beautiful professor. I'm 2 plus month started learning to playing piano, and now already 5 different things playing/learn.
So in first repeat already known and so on, in the last continuous to study, playing real slowly (using RUclips lessons).
Today ordered (after listening several included you specialists) another key weighted keyboard 88 keys Roland FP-60X to correctly studying piano play..
I think IF I will only spent time to new pieces then can forgot already playing .

Ciao Bella. Italian is such a beautiful language that it is much better for you to tell us to use the Pomodoro technique instead of the tomato technique.
    Milli grazii.

Thankyou for such wonderful tips and love your simple ways of teaching chords. My biggest challenge is to play both hands simultaneously!!!! I'm an adult over 45 yrs. I can somehow play both hands but it becomes extremely slow and the timing goes wrong. I am not able to play both the hands at accurate timing! How do I do that?

When I make up my mind to practice chords or scale, i always end up with playing one or two lines of the songs roughly that i have seen on tutorials and when I realise that i have distracted, that feels so bad.😅

What I struggle most is memorizing a song. Even if I get it down for the first verse, i'll forget to play a part on verse 2 and so on. What are your tips for memorizing a song if I get the song on Tuesday and need to play it on Sunday that week?

    • @pianoly
      @pianoly  Год назад

Memorize it from beginning to end, then start working on the song from memory at different sections. Have little “markers” in your mind to go back to if you forget a part of the song. You’ll always go back to those markers if in the middle of a performance you forget something. Hope that helps! Do you play a church gig on Sundays?

Kaitlyn says to practice piano by playing slow. Combine that with the pomodoro technique and you get 'SLOMODOR😏S'

I bought a piano because I loved it, but I don't know how to play it. My biggest struggle is to try to play it with the two hands. Also I don't know how to play a song when I look for the chords on Google because I don't know which key I should play with my left hand
