    The idea of removing the 12 volt cable by way of the second nut under the round dust cover rather than removing the boot is AWESOME. I have watched several "how to's" and no one else suggested that. Thanks!

    My original starter only lasted 4 years. Same symptoms. Your video was the most detailed I found. I did see on another video a suggestion to remove the crank sensor just below the starter to avoid damaging it and give a bit more room. This helped too. Thanks for sharing!

    I ran into one of these today, just clicking, wouldn't crank. I clicked it dozens of times and it didn't crank. I had the car owner hold the key in the start position and I tapped the starter with a big socket and it cranked slow, but enough to start. I'm replacing the starter tomorrow. Thanks for the helpful video, always nice to know what's involved before starting.

    Hey Michael. Great and informative video. I don't need to replace my starter just yet (hopefully), but you've just given me a good view of the positive starter cable that I need to replace. I got about 70% of the way today with the job before I realized the end of the cable went deeper than I thought.After watching your video, I think I'll be able to switch it out, thanks!

      Jason Cunningham I'm up to 145k miles. The only other issue was having to replace the tensioner pulley at around 80k miles.
      We unloaded the Camry after Toyota sent us a recall about the transmission torque converter having a huge manufacturer defect. My wife wanted a truck anyway. We put 70k miles on the Camry with no real issues. Our other vehicle is now a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500.

    First of all, thank for you this video.
    Couple of questions:
    1) Do you know what part would go into a 2015 Accord EX-L? I'm thinking a 9 tooth from everything I'm reading online.
    3) Remanufactured and refurbished parts are different correct? Remanufactured can still be new, but refurbished pretty much means it's been used and fixed if I'm not mistaken. Do you recommend using a refurbished Honda Accord OEM starter or putting in a new remanufactured one like the Bosch SR1355x? Because wouldn't another Honda Accord starter just mean it would fail again? Mine has started to fail at 47K miles, doesn't that mean it'll eventually do it again if I put in the same defective part?

    • @Sunshone7311
      @Sunshone7311  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Sarbjot,
      There should only be two options for the starter. One for the 4 cylinder and one for the 6 cylinder regardless of trim level.
      Refurbished means it was a working part taken from a parted out donor car. They usually test, clean and resell these starters. More or less this would be a junkyard part.
      Re-manufactured means the part failed and returned as a core. The cores are taken apart and the components cleaned, tested and replaced if necessary. These parts usually have a warranty, but maybe louder than the OEM part.
      Unfortunately I don't believe the starter issues have been resolved on the new or re-manufactured starters. It is basically a crap shoot on how long they will last. I made my decision that a low mileage, low cost junkyard part was the best solution.

    • @sarbjotsingh8269
      @sarbjotsingh8269 5 лет назад

      Michael Borquez thank you for the response! It seems like it’s been a year and a half since then, has it held up well?
      Also I was looking at a Bosch starter, it says remanufactured but I’m assuming it’s new, no? Just that it was made to OEM standards but not from Honda directly at least that’s what I’m thinking

    I have a 2014 Honda Accord Sport and came across the same issues with the starter. Car starts on first two or three try's sometimes then others will take 10 to 20 minutes before car even starts. I am currently looking at pricing a starter because the dealership is trying to charge me right under $1000 to replace it.
    Autozone and Napa range from $150- $279.99
    Ebay sells remanufactored starters ranging from $85-118.95 (with 1 year warranty)

    Had intermittent single click when trying to engage my push-button start. Doing some reading and came to the conclusion it was my starter. Replaced the started with a reman, which did not include the retainer clip for the middle part of the harness that stick out from the end of the starter. After r&r I have an intermittent grinding noise when engaging the starter, but that car does not fail to start. Happens maybe every 10 starts, doesn't seem to matter if it is on a cold/warm startup. Any suggestions?

    • @Sunshone7311
      @Sunshone7311  7 лет назад

      Jacob Schneider Jacob Schneider Unfortunately remanufactered starters sometimes have these issues. Honestly, I've stuck to salvage parts and have had better luck. This sounds like a issue with the teeth aligning when the start engages and maybe just a result of the parts used by the company that remanufactured the starter. Since they usually have a warranty you could just try to get them to warranty it. They won't cover labor unfortunately.

    • @jacobs3769
      @jacobs3769 7 лет назад

      Yep, the reman was the issue. Fixed the problem when I switched it to a new factory starter. Only bad thing is after almost 2 weeks of great starting, I think the issue is coming back. Just an intermittent issue right now, hopefully it doesn't leave me stranded. Good lord these starters are ridiculous. Do you think it could be a push button malfunction?

    Hey Michael, I was having starting issues. I originally thought it was the ignition switch but I took it to Honda to do diagnostic and they immediately said it was the starter. I ordered a brand new OEM Honda starter ($360!) and replaced per your video. It fired right up and ran great for about 2 months. Now Im having the same no start issue again! Any ideas?

    • @Sunshone7311
      @Sunshone7311  6 лет назад +1

      James Williams Interesting, have checked under the hood for anything as far as corrosion? Maybe a bad battery (have it tested), or the recalled battery sensor, or a bad alternator.
      Try the count to three test, put the key in, turn it one click and wait three seconds, the turn the key to start. If this works, you may have an ignition issue.

    • @jameswilliams8234
      @jameswilliams8234 6 лет назад

      Michael Borquez Thats what i was doing before I replaced the 1st starter. I would count to 3. It seemed to work for a while but it ultimately got worse. Thats why i told the dealer I thought it was an ignition switch problem but they said it was the starter. It seems the new starter was just a temporary fix. The battery is good, no corrosion.

    • @Sunshone7311
      @Sunshone7311  6 лет назад

      James Williams hmm, are you sure they gave you a new starter? I believe they have a warranty that should cover it. I would try another starter, sadly they are a weak spot in the Accord.

    • @jameswilliams8234
      @jameswilliams8234 6 лет назад

      Michael Borquez Its supposed to be brand new. I will check into the warranty. Could there be something causing the starter to go bad, like something electrically that is damaging it?

    • @Sunshone7311
      @Sunshone7311  6 лет назад

      James Williams I would lean more toward another bad starter. Voltage spikes are really the only thing that could damage the starter, but that would damage other components first. The most logical thing is to replace the starter, if it happens again the. I would start checking other electrical components.

      Sam Minjarez I posted a reply and I unfortunately think you may have gotten another bad starter. The only other thing it could be is the starter relay, but I’ve never seen one actually go bad. Ignition issues can also cause this, but once again, I haven’t seen that issue on this generation of Accord. Did you buy this car new? I’ve seen stupid dealer alarm systems cause this problem. They wire them in, but when you don’t buy the system they pull one chip to disable it, but on occasion it causes random no starts. I had that issue on my old Saturn Vue and to cut the damn thing out even though I never purchased it. Just some thoughts.

      @@jmc224 self aligned, but i think the issue with these Honda is our battery ,, on some forums people are replacing them with the V6 model battery.. it's bigger more power. I've gone through 3 batteries.

      @@juliorod1126 yeah I finally changed mine out to the bigger one two years ago and haven’t had any power issues since then. But my starter was definitely needing to be changed as it would just not start. Power wasn’t an issue, just wouldn’t turn over it to even attempt to turnover. I finally got it replaced but now it’s making a metallic grinding noise..
