- BMW M Motorsport is getting ready to join the Hypercar class of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship with the BMW M Hybrid V8. Before their competition debut in March with the 1812km of Qatar, the team was in Spa on September 1st for a test session.
The FIA World Endurance Championship is the world’s premier international sportscar championship, contested over seven rounds across North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. With multiple cars across three categories (Hypercar, LMP2 and LMGTE Am) all on track at the same time, the WEC is a sports car extravaganza that offers action, overtakes, excitement and entertainment for fans worldwide.

@@Z_2122yh for me endurance isn't just about the driving skill but also the performance and durability of different cars. That's why I like the new HyperCar class so much and didn't like lmp2😂

If the success of the BMW M4 GT3 is anything to go by, one can be sure this hypercar will easily follow suit. As it stands it has already registered a race win at IMSA. Certainly without question a competent vehicle to take the fight to the competition.

If LMDh performs like they did this year, I'd say they will struggle a bit before getting up to speed. Porsche seems to be the best of the Dh lot.

Hopefully with a year under their belts racing in IMSA, the BMW's can put up a good fight to the Toyota's and Ferrari's. And hopefully Cadillac, Peugeot, Porsche and the rest can be in the fight too because Toyota winning nearly everything all the time isn't great.
It would also be great to see Acura (maybe as Honda??) in the WEC with their ARX-06.

This is the kind of thing that basically proves the future of high performance cars will be a mix of electric and combustion power. Best of both worlds. This is especially true of the consumer market. If I had the money to go out and shop for a super/hypercar, I would only consider manufacturers that align with this philosophy.

Current WEC has a great potential, but if Toyota and Ferrari dominates against the rest and teams like Glickenhaus, Peugeot, Porsche will suffer even with a BoP, then it'll turn a boring event already no matter how many different vehicles takes places on the grid.
Don't get me wrong, I want to see a better WEC. In IMSA current there are 4 different manufacturers and 4 of them won races. 3 of them has pole position and the only team who couldn't get a pole position is second in the championship. First 4 cars are completely different cars in the championship title and one race could flip the entire table, that's how close they are.
On the other hand, Toyota dominates WEC. 5/7 races won by them and each race the second car is either Ferrari or other Toyota. This category shouldn't be like F1, that two teams compete for the title and the rest gives a bit spice. Fights like two ways such as Mercedes-Red Bull, McLaren-Ferrari should be the last thing that we see in WEC. That's why we have BoP. But right now it doesn't work. Hybrid and non-hybrid cars in LMH class has a huge performance difference between each other. Not only that the gap between hybrid LMH are significantly ridiculous if you look at Peugeot and Toyota. They made a right call for Peugeot in Monza but even with that they should slow down Toyota and Ferrari a bit more.
On the other hand LMDh cars cannot compete for the win. All they can do is finish 3rd because one and two always locked for Toyota or Ferrari. This is not right. If that happens then Lamborghini, Alpine, BMW and Isotta Frascini are coming for nothing but a midfield fight.

LMDH is the cars running in WEC & IMSA doing le man and Daytona 24.
they do race each other, the only different is that LMDH cars use chassis, hybrid engines and gearbox that were selected by IMSA licensed manufacturers.
The distinction between the two is that the LMDh has a spec chassis, gearbox, and hybrid systems, with the car manufacturer exclusively building the engine, whilst the LMH cars are created from the ground up.

They tested like 10 different drivers, no idea who will drive for them. Frijns seems to be a good guess though.

Sheldon Van derLinde tested at Aragon with WRT. Could be another driver. Not 100%sure but I think WRT plan to run 2 BMW Hypercars

I hope there will be some sort of "Supercars" class, a lighter hypercar to allow more privates constructors like Glickenhaus.

Why would there be? WTR runs the BMW program in WEC. RLL is just IMSA.

Not really. There are some minor differences since both series use different windtunnels.
How different is this from the IMSA BMW?
I don’t think it is
It's the same car, the only things that change is how the officials get their telemetry. It's a different system in WEC and IMSA. But the electronics are not visible for us viewers.

please no, f1 is dieing in my opinion, its a class less sport now, they need to change to rules to match wec, "data driven" not spec driven. the old f1 philosophy is out dated in my opinion
