Hi everyone!
Today's tutorial is made to explain to you how to add your shadows and highlights to cartoon vector illustrations in Adobe Illustrator CC 2021. You will first see how I outline my illustration and then add base colours, shadows and highlights. This tutorial is simple and easy to understand if you're a casual user of adobe illustrator. You can also learn a little something if you're a little more advanced as well!

Great vid. Extra tip: If you use black as the shadows and drop the opacity you will be able to change the color of your object while still having the darker shade.

how do u have that window on the right side that allows u to pick the right shade of the color u are using?
Hi, the tutorial is really great, but I missed a part. When I do the shading part, the outline of the donut moves with the color itself. And when I try to delete the outline, the color gets messed up. How do I solve this problem?

Great tutorial! But things get a little confusing at the shape builder part from 5:33 - 6:22, I don't know what I'm doing wrong but its just not deleting the same way as yours is. Would appreciate any help!

Go on windows panel which is in top of the application and there search for Swatches, click it and you will see that type of color swatch in your layout

Is there any possibility to paint into selection, as there is in Animate?
I mean, in Illustrator I always see people working with copies of the Fill layer (Outline on top, shape layer beyond), but this is annoying.
Lets say you want to change the shape of your shaded object afterwards (several times).
So you have to do all that copying and shading over and over again?

What if the light source is coming from front and the face is facing the light source
tell me that which mode was he using : Automation, Essentials, Essentials Classic, Layout, Painting, Painting and Proofing, Tracing, Typography or Web. I'm not being able to find which one was he using? Please help!
This mode is the default mode and I just arranged it the way I liked it with the tools I mostly use. You can find all the tools in the windows panel :)

Unfortunately you will need to practice your drawing skills in order to achieve similar results. You can copy from a real image as well 😊

Using direct selection tool
why do we copy the inner circle doughnut three time, but we just use it two for the shadow?
Because you need to keep the third one all the way in the back or else it gets cut!
