Had the same issue about a year ago. Replaced the valve assembly and of course that fixed it. So glad i did a search and found this helpful video. Thank you!
Thank you so much! We had no hot water and I had messed around trying to get the pilot light to stay on but to no avail. I was about ready to pull out the thermocouple when I saw your video. I tried this fix and sure enough it stayed lit and worked fine. I will call Monday to see if I can get a new valve sent out under the recall. Much appreciated!
Oh wow only after buying a $12 thermocouple replacement and fearing no hot water for days until a new gas control valve arrived. This was definitely my problem. Solved after hours of trying to find a video with a valve that looked like mine XD
Mine did the same thing. Seen a video about it and after driving to Menards in the middle of the night to get a new thermocouple which didn't fix it, I removed the sensor, and it has worked fine for a year now.
Thanks so much for the video! I’m pissed though, because the only way to get the thermocouple to make contact…no matter how much I tightened it, was to wrap a wire around the control box to hold the thermocouple in place…forcing contact. I shouldn’t be having to take these jerry rigged measures on a 3 year old water heater
I took a t50 staple and connected those two wires on that plastic piece on top of the thermocouple. Great to temporarily use the heater. As long as the pilot stays lit your good.when my new one arrives I'm going try and splice the new one in instead of replacing the valve assembly
Great tip on how to temporarily fix it but don’t try to splice on the new “sensor” because the actual sensor is internal to the valve. Unfortunately you need to replace the entire thing.
I"m going to give this a try tomorrow. Thanks. Do you have any follow up on how it has held up over time (assuming you have not replaced the fuse). Thanks.
I called and they said I had to replace the valve. But they don’t have the valve and I need to call around and find one. Wish I could just replace the damn fuse/sensor and save 400+ bucks
Not too useful without showing how and what was put back together!? Did the "fuse/sensor?" get reinstalled, if so, how? How is it removed in the first place?
Thank you so much for this recommendation. It helped me understand the issue. I used the paperclip approach (ruclips.net/video/_wi0EYHp2cc/видео.html) to get hot water until I wait to receive the replacement from Rheem!

It's a year 😢 late, but I'm so thankful and grateful . This got the tank going. Thanks so much!
This was my problem too. THIS is the type of video that made Utube great. Thanks for posting it!!

If the sensor is made to keep people from getting scalded, what is the temperature control button for ?

Means open line, not over load
Thank you so much for the tip! That was exactly the problem and your tip fixed it.
I tried looking up the recall. I
'm not seeing it. Can you provide a link perhaps? TIA
100% was my issue! Thanks!

My plumber pulled this trick on my water heater. Went bad yesterday. Their fix lasted about 6 months.
@@jimfiegel7396 I'm jealous - I tried. Nada. New Thermo, nada. I'm at a loss.
@@jimfiegel7396what happened when that failed?

Is it safe to
That's why there is a brass connector between the copper and the sensor to prevent corrosion .
The u put the fuse back or not
Is there a link for the recall
😂🎉😊your awesome thanks bro
We tried the bypass and it didn’t work. Turns out the thermocoupler was bad.
This Water heater has been a nightmare.....
Worked for me thank you
Please tell Me the function of two white wire between magnet cell and thermocouple. Reply me in written I am from Pakistan.
To prevent the water from getting to hot and burning someone just a added safety feature
I called customer service gave them my sr# and md# . New valve is in the mail. No questions no receipt.

Did these ppl not watch your video?? The fuse is off at the end
Fuses are not sensors.
what does a fuse do. it senses a overload in a system and breaks so the system doesn't break. Key word Senses
Got the same issue
Worked for me
