Why Nobody Uses Shoe Polish Graffiti Mops (And Why You Should!)

- It's incredibly rare to see shoe polish mops in action in the graffiti world today. Almost no graffiti taggers and graffiti artists use them regularly. Here's a tagging test to show why that is AND WHY you should try them out!

In Germany, there is a discount store called "Action". A mob costs about 80¢.
"Shoe like Schuhcreme" 0,72€
Warte was
Wie heißen die genau?
@@Urleiwand Shoe like Schuhcreme 0,72€
Funktioniert ganz gut.
Ja, ich gebrauche die auch, und man kann ihre Metalfarbe, die auf Lösemittelbasis ist mit ihrem Lösemittel verdünnen und im Stift benutzen, die Farbe kommt in schwarz und weiß 😊
Not only in Germany the Action stores are all over Europe. We have them in the Netherlands and found them in Italy and Tsjechia also
soo satisfying! i hecking love those mops! Great video thanks for the hit-up!
No problem broski!
i put cloth or any material on my nib and tighten the bottom part and its really durable then
same
Love your Videos! The way you talk and the content. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much man! Cheers!
@@ScizGraffiti My pleasure!
Nice work man. Kinda bummed about the buff test being behind the paywall BUT I definitely respect the hustle. YT certainly isn't paying it's authentic creators nearly enough. Seems like the bulk of it goes to that compilation garbage of viral clips. Ughh. Also, your editing and music were on point in this one! Very nice!
How about this, I'll make the buff test on patreon free this time :) Yeah it's unfortunate that they haven't found ways to reward content that takes more work, but I guess that's not what people want to watch necessarily. There's no real money in it at all unfortunately.
And I appreciate the feedback on the editing cause for once I tried to take some creative liberties with it and do some stuff a bit different and I liked editing it a lot more too, so I'm glad it came out a bit better too. Thanks for the support as always man!
@@ScizGraffiti oh no way! That's awesome But Also, I'm not knocking your hustle or trying to get a freebie. Keep grinding and people will get with the program.
Dude! The extra work is excellently showcased in this one! Your videos are always good but this one really had the razzle dazzle of fine tuning.
shoe polish mops are a W
:)
Bruhhh u nailed that mixture 🔥 I've tried twice n the chrome overpowered especially when fully dry
Haha thanks. I wanted to add even less but the mop would have been too empty
honestly these mops started it all for me, i used to write with just the shoe polish 😂 and then it got me into making my own markers and ink. probably why i got leukemia 15 years later, fucking around with all that benzene 😭😂 worth every second of that tho, felt like a mad scientist.
Very sorry to hear about your struggle. My family has seen similar struggles. But knowing how to make your own inks is such a good skill and I definitely envy it! Can I ask if there are any clear bases you use for formulation?
i like them cause they're free, but its such a headache having to refill it pretty often, and it can be too thick.
You should trim the nib at the edge at angle when its fresh to prevent it scraping on the sides and making a mess. The nib tears fairly easily, so covering the sponge with fabric and securing it with a rubber band/hair tie makes it last longer and lets you use it on something like concrete.
Yeah good idea about triming the edges. I've found that as soon as elastics and extra fabric is involved they are more mess than it's worth but it does work I guess
When I was younger and always broke I used to rack dozens of those shoepolish mops.
I had no money to buy good paint, so I just tagged with the shoepolish.
Yes, it was buffed relatively easy, but some tags that weren’t buffed lastet quite a long time dispite only being written with shoe polish instead of ink
Yeah it's funny how some liquids can stay up without being supposed to. I had the same experience with solid chalk writers that were meant for whiteboards. Somehow on freight, if they aren't directly exposed they stayed up and eventually came back k around on the same line haha
@@ScizGraffiti Yeah and I always liked the looks of the shoepolish tags, as you also mentioned in your video. I love those little lines that show you exactly the flow of a tag.
By the way I just found your channel a few days ago, really like your content 👍🏼
Since previously commenting about your beard, I wound up trying one of these. I’ve been running an acetone thinned silver rusto fence paint in it and you were not kidding, this thing is messy af in the best way. As I’m making my tag it throws paint all around and drips like crazy, which I personally am a fan of. It’s become one of my go to paint mops for dumpsters, bus stops, and large electrical boxes. It’s def a specific aesthetic and presumably not for everyone but I can’t help having a blast every time I use it. RIP to my boots though.
Yeah if you have clothes on you aren't worried about they are a lot of fun. The caps having ink all over them bug me so much though too
@@ScizGraffiti yeah that is an issue, mine also does that thing where it gets to the maximum point of being tight then skips back to being loose so I’ve got to turn it just enough to be tight but not enough to have it skip a groove. It makes me worried when it’s sitting in my bag that it’s gonna leak or something. Other than that it’s sick as hell.
Definitely still very popular especially in NYC
That's good to hear
Just about to say that.
Fun fact:
18/20mm felt nibs from bingodabber style squeezers also fit pretty good into the hole of a shoe polish mop and vice versa. So you can chose between a sponge nib or a felt nib for rougher surfaces or thinner lines
Good point! Depends on the brand but the standard ones definitely do. And they'll be a bit less messy too
Great vid thanks😅
no prob man. Cheers!
The angled head ones are a bit rarer but most ideal. Stocking over the top with a twist tie to secure and u good to go
My man SCIZ!!! What it do!?
I still use em. 0:26 definitely a childhood wracking product. As an adult I order online bc I have a job. But as a kid, and still to this week, I Garvey these up for single trip missions. Nice edits! 💪🎨💣🔥
Thank you Stu! 👊🙏🍻
its quite popular to put a thin piece of cloth like nylon over the nib to make it last longer. wekman often does it in his videos
Yeah true. I find that a bit too messy for me to want to deal with but it's a great hack for sure
@@ScizGraffiti you can just put it on before you activate the nib and secure it with a rubber band
i put a pice of old sock on the nib to not ruin it or when i tag to not break the sponge.
I remember the shoe polish mops.we also used Bingo dotters in the 90s
yup. still a big fan of those today
Yes I am the 1% the thumbnail produced a limbic response in me which compelled me to click on the video
Big respect to you :) you must be a man of true class
DANG SON OLD SCHOOL MOB MOPPING !
Shoe mops where invented in the late 80's to early 90's we would raid Payless for those mops, and we would use chalkboard eraser as the nibs ?
Yeah that was us and a Graf shop called lunatix ? And they made the first production line mops that were called outlines ? And they made the tester cans.
My shoe polish mop's problem is quite the opposite .only a small amount of paint comes through the nib.
what paint are you using?
In sweden the show polish mop only cost 25kr or $2 and 5 cents😂😂
Beards coming in nice, duder
haha thanks man
I just bought one of these and don't know what to fill it with. I have acrylic paint and some isopropyl alcohol but I don't know how permanent it would be, any tips?
For sponge nibs in particular since I wasn't the nib to last I usually put an ink off some sort just cause the nib takes far longer to dry out than with something like an acrylic paint. It's just for a bit of insurance in case I'm not using it all that often. I find the thinner formulae tend to give off the brush effect in a really pronounced way which I like too. But that is just a personal preference of mine
Ok thanks ill get some ink@@ScizGraffiti
Theyre always popular in nyc. And free. The orange "Vilo" ones are the best, and they hold a little more ink than the regular ones. The Kiwi ones suck.
I picture them being a big thing in the NYC scene. Good to know they're around a lot more still there
I've never had any luck with these, the nibs just immediately crumble away. I do have some weird triangular shaped ones I haven't tried yet.
Yeah the triangle nib ones are actually supposed to be for sealing enveloped believe it or not. 😂 sort of a dumb invention if you ask me but they give some cool effects when writing. Usually those ones have mega soft nibs though like you say and they don't hold up well at all. the one I used in this video has a thicker foam at least. you van tell it's been designed for this kind of thing specifically but still not super tough of course
My fav and only mop that I’m using rn cause I lost my credit card
As long ad you have one you're golden
Bro the dbd ahh theme song
perfect for glass, sponges dont last at all though.
Yeah unfortunately... I do find they last a bit longer with an alcohol ink in them just cause it tends to keep the sponge wet while being stored. Idk if it makes them hold up any better in terms of the actual integrity but it's something at least
sciz i love ur vids pls notice me
thank you man! Cheers!
@@ScizGraffitiYOO SCIZ NOTICED ME TYYY
if you don't see any shoe polish mops in your city the scene just sucks
It definitely feels that way sometimes
Funny enough 24mm mohair nibs work on them if you didn’t know
Also if not tie a thin fabric shirt around the tip an cut the excess of so you cover the sponge an fortify it if your mainly using ink get a piece of felt it will work perfect an you’ll have a strong as nib to tag floor an busted wood
Poke holes in the fabric too with a pic if you need more flow
Ngl I like them but they expensive af😢
true but the empties can be pretty cheap
makin your own shoe polish mop is easy af
@@ScizGraffitiI live in the netherlants and I got to shoe polish mops filled with ink already by a dollar shop … it was 80 cents … so thats Nice Keep it up sciz!
because the nibs fall off and are quote fat, may has well use a can of paint, and bingo dabbers have become popular, as in various sizes, and people now a day buy products, back in the day there wasn't many options, now there is many.
Bit of a different look between can spray and mop look but I definitely take your point.
Could have just ended the video at 5:00 and got better watch time retention. Not hating yo, it just gets kinda slow after the 5 minute point.
Still gave it a thumbs up 👍
good to get the feedback :) thanks

that teeth !!!!! lol
i only use and rack these
Bro shoe polish is $4 and paint 75ml is $2.50 at cheap shops, remove the top off a shoe polish, empty it then put paint into it, a marble, and a drop of water then cap back on, shake it and done (also reusable just remove cap and refill anytime)
nice. not where I'm from but glad some places have that option
