I bought an OT Ridge, and liked it, but Canyon's Grand Canyon 5 went on sale for $500. With clutched Deore 1x12, hydraulic brakes, a superior Suntour fork(not air, but rebound damped, lockout dial), Schwalbe Tough Toms, etc... it's more than a $100 improvement. It rides, shifts, stops, "jumps" noticably better. Highly recommend if you catch sale pricing. I did put some Fooker needle bearing pedals on it though😉
Except this Ozark Trail Ridge has internal routing for dropper posts and a tapered head tube. Not having those on the Canyon would be a dealbreaker for me.
Got mine last week for 110 as a refurbished at my local WalMart. The derailleur is out of adjustment and slipped off the sproket breaking the safety disc. Score for me!
The OT Ridge I got had a sticker noting the front brake was missing a bolt. I asked if that meant it was discounted, and they knocked it down to $298. Saved $100 for a missing $1 bolt. Easy decision to grab that one.
I just got a new in the box model 2 with the Acolyte and 180mm rotor off of Facebook for $160. I ordered a RockShox Recon fork for $206 with free shipping from dreamruns and Shimano hydraulic brakes for $55.
Wheel set on this is usable with DW rims and FH. But not sealed bearings. Cheap wheel sets with sealed bearings are hard to find. But I did last year. The Schwinn Taff Comp for $125 was the best to upgrade with a quality wheel set. You basically bought the frame. Everything else was ether to heavy or Big Box quality.
I found one slightly used on roads for $120. It had flat tires but I wanted to make it tubeless anyway. I went double ghetto on my tubeless setup so that was cheap too. Still has the original tires and wheels.
Check your SD cards and make sure the read/write speed is the right spec for the go pro. I recently realized I was using one that was too slow and it fixed my corrupted files issue for longer clips.
Very interested Kev, I have another direction that I would want addressed. Here is a concept, I am a fat 350 pound rider that loves the heavy duty and comfort that me, as a street rider would enjoy. A 90% urban street capable bike that would get me around town and only have to jump a few curbs and deal with a few gravel roads. I see tires with a low rolling resistant center 100% contact. A rear carrier that would be great for getting the groceries home. Lights, perhaps a comfortable saddle. Think seriously about a build in this direction. I am sold on this bike already, Thanks Kev for your insight and wisdom for us, the budget minded low enders. Peace love out
Sorry youre having an issue with your Hero 9. I use my Hero 11 for everything and dont have issues. Had it since release. Also had a her0 5 for two years and no issues. You may be having an SD card issue. What SD card are you using? Go pro needs high end cards and it really like Samsung.
Sandisk Extreme/Pro. Edit: GoPro had a long history of lockups/bad files/buggy software. That’s why their once dominant position has been slowly eroding
I missed out on the hyper awhile back but just found one of these on clearance for $223. For some reason they keep the clearance bikes out in the garden section where I am so the bike sat there for like a week or so but the only thing I see wrong is a slight surface scratch on the top tube. I still need to go thru it to check everything but so far haven't seen any other problems. Thanks for these videos, I came here first before I went back and got it. Funny thing is I got some Fooker FO-150's flats with clips NIB for $9.99 at goodwill like 2 months ago.
I got the hyper a few years ago. You didn't miss out on much. It felt heavy as hell, it was chunky, and it didn't shift gears very easily. It wasn't a bad bike but it was definitely a cheap bike. I'm getting the Ozark trail when I get off work today. I'm pretty pumped
I really love all the upgrades to all the contacts especially the tires the pedals are just fantastic of course I'm working on a way where I can upgrade to a ridge but that's a different longer story of solid plan is in the works temporary employment I'm familiar with that seat too I've seen it with different writing or logos but it is all the same seats I've got one in black with blue and I'm quite familiar with it I really love this color scheme I'm thinking of changing one of my on a NPC mountain style bike it's a Mongoose to the daily cruiser I want to make sure that I get the pedals correct and I want lock on grips I'll check all the links that you have as well and I already know where to get the seet I have one of Walmart's I forget the brand right now but it would only be logical to buy another one for 20 bucks this is the only practical for right now I'm sure they'll do fine for just riding around I always wondered what became of this bike after the derailleur hanger repair and I think I remember a replacement as well there's always enjoy your channel take care
Have you considered using two different Schwalbe tires? On a lot of bikes (at least in Germany) you typically get a mixed but matching combination. My wife's (very entry level) bike for example came with a Nobby Nic in the front for good traction and a Rapid Rob in the back for reduced rolling resistance. And my own Canyon Stoic 2 came with a Magic Mary in the front and a Hans Dampf in the back. This is something I see really often on bikes with Schwalbe tires. (Usually sub 1000€ because I like cheap bikes.) And it's always focused on traction in the front and speed in the back.
I’ve been upgrading my ozark almost like mad lol. It’s going great, It’s got a 38t one by. Some good grips forgot the brand, carbon bars with tektro 4pot brakes, a good seat post. It’s so good with these small upgrades augghhhh.
So far I upgraded with advent x trail pro with clutch 10 speed shampoo cassette shampoo macanical disc breaks to get out and ride safely did not trust oem future upgrades are fork and bottom bracket 32t hope qr rear hub if price will allow
I have a GoPro Hero5, I've turned off voice control and one touch power on/record etc, records better. I have to store with battery out as it will drain the battery to 0% when turned off for a week or so ...
I prefer Maxxis Double High Roller up front and Ardent on the rear for cross country style riding. Would you consider second hand parts? A entry level air fork would lighten up the bike and make it handle better.
@@KevCentralYou should! You can can get fresh take offs from people who upgraded there bikes right away, not using the original fork. I've heard people say that even a $1000 bike isn't worth upgrading, that you should be spending at least $1500-$2000 on a hardtail. I bought a GT Avalanche Sport off Facebook Marketplace for $400. That bike with an air fork and hydraulic brakes for $499 ... come on Walmart you have the purchasing power to make it happen ... 🤞🤞
