    Thank you. I encountered an anomalous buzzing in my audio. I checked the mic level adjustment and modified the setting per your instructions. Now the buxzz is gone. Thank you for your expert advice.

    Would you have any idea why a Purple Panda lav mic will not work with my Panasonic G7 mirrorless camera? I'm using the TRRS to TRS adapter that comes with the mic but the camera ignores it when it's plugged in. It's pretty clear that the camera is using the internal mic when the lav mic is plugged in. By the way, at 5:17, it looks like you're using a TRRS (three ring) plug with your camera so I'm surprised that works. Ive tried the TRRS plug as well as the TRS adapter but neither will work with the G7.

    Excellent video sir. Laidback and comfortable listening, too. Personality a +
    That internal audio is not so good with the wind.
    I am going to use fine super glue on a micro deadcat and place it on top of the internal mic. Often times when I need to be low profile I rely on the two pinhole mics located on the top of the G7 in front of the shoe mount. Don't want a large mic added on when going stealth ( I shoot stuff for TMZ) But at the same time, gotta knock off that wind noise, mate.... If I'm shooting open commercially I go ahead and plug in a Rode mic or something good.. why not.
    peace and love from the 818

    Panasonic use a TRRS jack (that is the socket, the other part is the plug). This is intended for the likes of their DMW-MS2 shotgun-stereo mic, a triple mic, which it also powers. If you connect for example a Rode Stereo-Mic TRS into G7 mic-in you will get mono. So you need a TRS-TRRS adaptor, and there are two types that rearrange the wiring differently. One works, the other does not and I cannot remember which (OMTP to CTIA/AHJ ???), they're cheap enough to buy both flavours. Later Panasonic mic-in, such as G9, works intelligently and sorts itself out.
    Panasonic digital-clipping is quite unobtrusive, one of the best camera audio systems. Using the mic level limiter is something of a compressor which can reduce the dynamic range of the audio.

      I connected a Blue yeti microphone to my g7 by powering it from USB from my laptop and everything works. At first the white noise was loud, so I set the mic level on the g7 to -12. Then I lowered the gain to 0 on the microphone and finally I lowered the volume always on the microphone. The audio can be heard very well but even if I put all the volumes to 0 I still hear a slight white noise. I probably need to lower the gain on the Windows settings on the microphone too I guess? Also I didn't know I needed an adapter to get stereo sound. Thanks for this detail!

    What mic are you using? I have a great Sony wireless setup (Sony URX-P40) that *used* to work with my Lumix G7, but it doesn't recognize it anymore. I used to be able to plug that receiver in, use the transmitter with no issues, and the audio was great! Now, it doesn't recognize that mic input at all. It does seem like a mini Rode boom mic is working, but the audio for interviews isn't great. Any idea what wireless mic (preferably with a lavalier wireless setup) will work with this camera? I really don't want to have to buy a different camera as I love the video quality with this one.

    I guess it would be kind of awkward adjusting the decibels / audio levels while you were recording yourself talking and you were at a greater distance than arm's length from the camera. Do you have any tips on doing this or making the process easier?
    At first, I thought about using an audio recording app on a phone or tablet (with an external mic plugged into such a device) while the G7 records the video. Then sync in post. But it's hard to find audio apps that allow you to adjust levels. It's great that the G7 lets you do this in it's own menu settings.

    Thank you Lamar this was helpful. I was using my Rode +Lavalier months ago and worked fine. I have the correct adaptor to plug into the camera (rather than iPhone).
    Though suddenly the sound is shocking and super low. Is there anything that could have caused this to occur? I’m at a loss… Any tips on what I should be looking for would be greatly appreciated.

      The first thing you should do is check your audio cables if you’re using any for the microphones you have. So often the ends can go bad on either end or both ends and leave you wondering what happened and why things aren’t working the way they were. Another possibility is that something went wrong in the camera and performing a reset should resolve it and hopefully restore the audio as a previously worked. Let me know how it goes.

    How can I get the microphone completely disabled? it is causing terrible echo when i try to do streaming or recording with my other microphone, and I cannot use the camera microphone because no matter what, it picks up too much background noise all over the house.

    Why cant you change to special Mic?

    • @tommylamarr
      @tommylamarr  3 года назад

      The special mic option is special indeed. Panasonic designed this option to only work with certain Panasonic shotgun mics. Those mics can be found on B&H photo and other bigger camera stores. You may notice that sometimes when you plug a regular mic in while looking at the menu the option becomes active for a few seconds but then grays back out, I’ll let you know it has never worked and I’ve tried several non Panasonic mics. Here’s a link so you can check them out. Hope this helped…… www.bhphotovideo.com/c/used/907000?gclid=Cj0KCQjw24qHBhCnARIsAPbdtlIrJGV0d7y89vRdz5ollCLhQkZ0Az-XKgUDlkp6Ih16C_STIGDNXKwaAk4bEALw_wcB
