I remember seeing footage of old trains on "Captain Kangaroo" with this song playing. God bless.
"Being a life that's long and hard" a badge of honour.
The song was composed by Albert Hammond for COLORS OF LOVE in 1968, but was successful in 1974 by Albert Hammond on USA in the year 1974 (U.S. # 31).
Albert Hammond is great!
I love his songs.
I think it's great to teach "linking" in my English Institute. Thanks to Hammond for his fertile production!
Recuerdo A Pirri, Iribar, Asensi,..
Great Song by a Great Singer!
OMG I Loooooooooooooooove this song!
It makes me cry every time I hear it. Even my children love it.
I worked on the railroad for 10+ years and now every time I hear this song, I feel like calling an old railroad buddy to talk about old times...

Loved this tune by Albert Hammond. Even better than "It Never Rains In Southern California"! Great little tune about trains. Too bad it's not available in too many places. I really had to search to find a digital copy!
Reminds me of watching a montage of train videos on Captain Kangaroo when I was a kid. Very underrated artist.
great song
Excelente cantante.
@tanktilublank I first heard AH at the age of 8-9..My father had all his albums on vinyl and all had the lyrics printed on the inner sleeve or cover. I'm 40 now and still love his acoustic rhythm and upbeat lyrics as if I'd never heard them before....
I remember this from childhood. There was a segment on "Captain Kangaroo" with this song and images of trains; I was about 3 years old and I still remember it -- but didn't know the singer until recently.
i grew up listenin to this song and now i find it omg the memories :D
@eolveras1964

well that means you were brought by some great parents.. my one son listens to rap, while the other to head banging music..which is stupid crap. Good music and words are long gone, my friend.that's why I return to the oldies like this..underappreciated, and hardly heard..tis a shame.. Good stuff, Albert...but never forgotten.
WOOEEHOOO, You go Aalbert Ham-mond! Ouwe viespeuk!
LOL, I was introduced to this song on Captain Kangaroo as a kid. Somebody posted a phto of him this morning on facebook, I thought of this song, and hear I am. Just plain fun.
I've just heard a version of this song by a swedish humour group, never really knew that it was a adaption of this song
Wasn't there a clip on Sesame Street that showed a bunch of REAL trains running back and forth set to this song? Would love to see that again!

@tanktilublank I first heard AH at the age of 8-9..My father had all his albums on vinyl and all had the lyrics printed on the inner sleeve or cover.
