That tone man. That playing. It's amazing. I could listen to it all day. In fact, I just might. It's a shame this unit doesn't have stereo. It's hard to go back to mono.
Thank you for the review! I know this can be a bit of a meaningless question but is there a different feeling playing the Twin as opposed to the Iridium? Is it more responsive to your playing, do you see any advantages of the preamp section of the Twin being analog instead of digital? Thanks!
I think the fender tones sound really great - there's definitely a certain realism to it that is a little better than the iridium, especially on the lower notes on your k-line. My biggest gripe though is not being able to load two separate cabinets at the same time, and not having multiple amp models in one unit.
It sounds fantastic from these clips. But I think I've come to the point with the iridium that a new unit has to sound better and do my laundry for me to consider switching!

That pedal sounds great, and the lack of an fx loop is the one thing that prevented me from grabbing the Iridium. I'm a bit disappointed this Shiftline pedal uses a 12ax7 though - a big reason i use amp simulators is to eliminate points of failure after i experienced tube failures during two live gigs

it would be so interesting to compare Shift Line Twin with AMT Bricks F-Clean, which is also 1 tube small Twin-type preamp. But no cab sim. But much cheaper! I use it with the Torpedo Wall of Sound.
For me the Iridium killer was the HX Stomp especially using some of your patches (thanks), a midi foot controller and an expression pedal (routed via midi). Just awesome flexibility the Iridium cannot match.
A Twin without a reverb? How hard can it be, so many of these amp modelers either miss XLR out, or reverb. This one has the XLR out, but then no reverb..... Basically you just want a complete amp modeled with a decent reverb, to run a pedalboard in to IMO Thanks for the review.
Exactly my thoughts. I got all excited until I saw no reverb. I don’t even need the reverb to be amazing, just have a little there to throw on. I’m looking for a solution for my church so that multiple guitar players can throw there board down and get a good sound without having to bring their own amp and so that we aren’t fighting with volume issues in the house. Hi mate, does the headphones out sound decent (I'd use the SL Twin at the end of my pedal board and play with phones or for recording purposes...hoping to be able to restar gigging...thanks
This has a low-Z XLR out, the transformer to do that costs almost the price difference. Plus this has an actual tube in it, which requires another transformer to up the plate voltage correctly. Plus the cost of the tube and socket. etc. As much as I think it's too expensive... for this to be only $40 more is pretty amazing.
However, if you're interested in tube preamps without the digital IR loading (using analog speaker sims) you can check out the AMT SS-11 and SS-20 series. A bit cheaper, but still pretty amazing.
You mentioned putting stereo pedal after iridium. Why not before ? I use a number of stereo pedals in series with iridium as the final pedal. Seems to work but was curious as to your reasoning. Thanks
Sounds good. Would love to hear more. I can hear a bit more of the dynamics in your playing with this patch (which I like). I do like Strymon gear, but I don’t think the Iridium is ahead or behind any other modeler really. Btw, ever try a torpedo product or ua ox box with real amps.... was a game changer for me.

@Ben Torin Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and im in the hacking process atm. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
The fact that it does one amp, no stereo, no room echo, and costs 10% more, really makes this a difficult purchase for me. Not sure what the internal tube does, but tubes can't really do much unless you really drive the voltage. That's how they work. Does it have a giant power supply? And the tube should be pretty warm/hot before it really starts to work.
Fun fact: In Russia, Twin costs €314, while Iridium is €458. ShiftLine are guys from Saint-Petersburg, Russia. I guess that's why their products are quite a bit cheaper here. Some other russian guitar gear companies that I know of do the same: AMT Electronics - Most products are a bit cheaper in Russia and also smoking deals on LA1 and LA2 series preamps (like half the price); Fokin (he-he) pickups - all pickups nearly half the price. Sadly, 98% of gear (guitars, amps, pedals, strings, parts - all sorts of stuff) is considerably more expensive compared to the EU. Some of the examples (all EU prices are from Thomann Germany (incl. VAT): 1) Pod Go EU: €415 Russia: €615 2) HX Stomp EU: €569 Russia: €771 3) Helix EU: €1495 Russia: €1916 4) Fender Player Strat (MIM, that is) EU: €645 Russia: €1012 5) Fender American Performer Strat EU: €1199 Russia: €1916 6) Fender American Original Strat EU: €1879 Russia: €2458 7) Gibson Les Paul Standard 50's EU: €2298 Russia: €3048 :( And Russians are considered poor, compared to the EU and the US... And I'd say that's pretty accurate, sadly. Surprisingly, ESP and LTD manage to keep their prices reasonable (at least last time I checked). There is a dedicated distributor company, that runs LTD Guitars Russia web site and sells the stuff only by itself, maybe that's why. Also one can buy a .strandberg* slightly cheaper than in EU (like €100-150 off), thanks to the importer company that sells stuff directly to ordinary people.

Explained it horribly yes. Here is an excerpt from a Mesa Boogie Manual from 1985: "The Effects Loop circuitry of the Mark III is very sophisticated and works very well with nearly all units. The maximum signal strength obtainable is around 0.6 volts RMS, or about the same as a guitar pickup. Only the lowest quality, cheap digital delays may experience some overload and we feel the problem here is caused by poor effect design, which would cost only pennies to remedy." That's what novel effects loop design looked like 35 years ago.
Yeh I think there's a little more clarity - but maybe that's as the Iridium is modelling the Deluxe Reverb? I guess that'd be a slightly less bright/clean amp?
I've been using the Joyo American sound live for a few years now with a Timmy, maxon tube screamer, delay and chorus and it does an absolutely amazing job for the crazy cheap price that they are. However after playing a shiftline I'm really tempted to get it. I wouldn't say it sounded hugely better than the joyo, it just felt better under my fingers.
I can't see any mention in the manual or on the shift line website wether the FX loop is stereo, be that full stereo send and receive or mono send and stereo receive like the Simplifier. @@The_Absurdistt I like to run my stereo delay and reverb before any sort of speaker SIM/IR (which obviously also needs to be stereo out!), but after the preamp.
