I like the subassembly question. I always come back to something Jon Ninas said that really stuck with me. "Don't paint the boots". The concept is that if something is out of sight you can afford to not paint it, or if it's not important, paint it to a lower standard. This was a hard thing to accept, because I hate the idea of leaving something unpainted. But if I'm trying to get my smallest brush into a crevice that nobody's going to see when they're looking at my model from multiple angles, that's just wasted time and effort. That's the idea of subassemblies. If parts of a model are going to be obscured or difficult to access and that's why I'm considering a subassembly, I ask myself whether anybody looking at it from 3ft away will even notice. If the answer is no, don't worry about painting subassemblies.
Like this. The undertones concept he talks about is something I’ve been working over the last two weeks’ hobby seshs. I’ve been setting stuff out to look at It all together and from a step back. The 3 foot view and next to other stuff. Now I’m asking myself what stands out or should, what else I can see, and what I want to. Some things just turn in to a spaghettis of black and silver yknow?
The psychographic profiles episode is definitely some of the most fun discussion I've listened to on the show. Looking forward to the ten year anniversary episode.
10 years next week!? Congrats! I'm a historical board war gamer, I don't even play AoS or 40K, but I'm a regular Wednesday watcher now! You, Uncle Adam and the gang you pal around with though, have helped me learn so much about painting! I just paint for hobby fun, but all the info and knowledge you guys share with the community is absolutely terrific! At all of your advanced level(s) of painting skills, the thing I find the most amazing, is the manner in which you all engage with novice and rookie hobbyist like myself, which I'm sure is just as appreciated by everyone else out in the hobby as it is by me! You guys are really super in that regard, thank you so much! Your sharing of painting knowledge is truly inspiring.🍻
You've put out so much amazing content for the past 10 years Vince, it's hard to pick. As a game designer myself, I have a bias obiviously, but all of your shows talking about redesigning factions, magic systems, general's handbooks etc are gold, I come back to them from time to time to rediscover some wisdom. Perhaps the one I find myself coming back to most often is the one (2 I guess now) about psychographic profiles, I knew most of it already from my magic past, but it was such a fun discussion about AOS armies, game theory and knowing the audience you're designing for. Looking forward to next week!
Favorite past episode - the assessment of heroes. When you divided heroes into several different categories, then elaborated on what makes a good hero vs. a bad hero. You then discussed several specific heroes and what made them good or bad. I found this very insightful when trying to decide how many and which heroes to take in my army lists.
My favorite is always your preview reviews. Second is your talk about game design for AoS, snarling badger and beyond. Always excited to hear your PoV.
Hey man, afraid I don't know the episode but I distinctly remember you talking about having a pile of unpainted minis, which weigh on your mind and end up making painting a chore, your advice was "just get rid of it". I've finally been brave enough to act on it, and several boxes to Troll Trader later and it feels like a weight has been lifted of my shoulders. It was absolutely the advice I needed to hear, so thanks it's appreciated.
The Warhammer Weeklies I like the most are the ones that go into game design like stuff for Snarling Badger or the Timmy/Johnny/Spike discussions. I'm never on when these air so Happy 10th Anniversary!
1:25 my favorite moment: introducing Hey Woah for the review of ogors 3.0 battletome. That whole episode is something I went back through all of the rest of AoS 3 and got me back into playing more ogors. But Hey Woahs introduction was just legendary!
I would absolutely love to hear an episode on philosophy ! Especially on philosophy of games or wargames, it would be great to hear you on this topic. Unfortunately, there aren't many scientific publications about Warhammer as far as I know, but I’m still convinced there's value in having a casual or academic discussion from a metaphysical or esthetical standpoint about our hobby. PS: I published a paper a few years ago on Warhammer games (name is "Wargames as Realistic Tabletop Simulations of Fictional Events: The Case of Warhammer Games", if you're curious). I'm not sure it's worth a read, but you might find it amusing to learn that Teclis is mentioned in a peer-reviewed journal!
I couldn't possibly pick one favourite, but I got back into the hobby 2018ish, missed the End Times and when I went back to watch your videos of the transition to AoS was fascinated by how badly gw handled it and how well you and Tom tried to keep things positive. More recently story time with Vince saved me a fortune! Congrats on 10 years and thank you and your fellow hosts for all the time and effort you put in
Vince! I just wanted to thank you for the help advising on paint buying. I followed your advice and just bought a bunch of army painter and have had a lot of success with my black templars. Recently thoe I got into the issue of painting skin. I followed your guides, but I feel like I don't have the proper paints to get the results I'm looking for, so I guess I'm buying the flex triads for dark and light skin tones (not all of them)!
Warham Weekly memory: "Chaos dyes their cloaks in cherries. They've got big cherry bogs" - Vince, Episode 09132023 (26:50) min. I'm a produce man, the journey to discover where fruit comes from has to begin somewhere.
I joined around the time Warcry launched. Have loved your content ever since. Hearing your breakdowns of books and Timmy Johnny spike discussions have probably been my favourite. Q - you mentioned a list builder recently and I can’t remember which you said. What was it again?
The Warcoda episode ended up dramatically changing how my local group played 3rd edition for the better, and turned into a major influence on how I try to create custom missions for AOS. Put me on Team Tyler.
Hi Vince! Long time listener, first time commenter. Love your thoughtful breakdowns and subject matter. I like the variety of guests you have. Standout episodes to me: mtg commander crossover with hey whoa.
On the sub-assembly piece: there are cases with GW models where you can't get a brush in but it's visible. Normally a problem when model is zenithaled. My solution: before anything else, get junk brush, load with paint and stab it in. Some tidy up required but easier than sub-assembly.
I went to a Jesuit university and it required 9 hours of philosophy for all students. Going in I thought it was dumb, but those classes ended up being among my favorites!
my favorite moment was, when as a non aos playing guy, i realized "Elarelle hurricane" wasnt some kind of elvish special named character but was a phonetic prononciation of LRL and just the word hurricane which made it alot more understandable when i couldnt find this named character anywhere... Look man i wanted to see the cool elf character okay
Thank you so much for this. Three nonths into the hobby, two decades of reading the lore across all the warhammer settings. In the middle of doing ratlings and trying sub assembly because they are so small and its driving me nuts. You saying “who are you painting it for god?” Had me laughing and abandoning the rest of this sub assembly.
Anybody notice that Vhordrai is basically a copy of Ionus Cryptborn? I think they started with that 3D design file, then just changed up some things. Very similar, the pose, the terrain, etc.
Hey Vince, just dropping message to say I really enjoy your weekly shows. Even though I dont play AoS, but maybe should try, more of a single figure painter. Although that Deathrattle really looks great. I really enjoy your measured approach and intelligent conversations. Its great to listen to whilst I work. Here is to another 10 years and thank you for the positivity to bring to the space.
Best episode is tough to say, there's been so many bangers. It's rare a WW isn't one of the highlights of that week on RUclips. That said, I went dredging through episodes I've watched in the past and am gonna nominate the god tier list episode: 'Who is the best god in Age of Sigmar - Warhammer Weekly 05052021'
Hey Vince, serial lurker here, thanks for all the valuable guidance! If you’re still answering questions, do you have any guidance for making more muted and dark palette pop? I usually pick & paint bright and poppy schemes but have picked up the new Krieg box and would like them to look appropriately grim.
Congrats on the 10 years Vince. I have two questions! 1.) How did you balance getting healthy and achieving your hobby goals? 2.) How do you manage to keep your hobby desk organized? It would be great to see a video of your organization and overall workflow
Vince, just watched this after watching your "quitting Golden demon" vid and one of the featured minis was the big purple guy sitting on the throne. (new painter, forgive the name ignorance lol) He was probably my favorite mini of the ones you featured. A chatter asked you about painting the edge of bases and I agree with your answer that it should be the frame of your artwork. However, One thing I REALLY liked about the purple guy on the throne piece was that the base had a purple/gold "red carpet" leading up to the throne and the tassels of the carpet were painted onto the side of the frame like it was hanging off and I thought that was really cool. Is this just a cool exception to the rule - kind of like a 4th wall break? Or would you consider this a mistake - Not trying to get you to attack anyones artwork, just looking for your thoughts on a contradiction in my head. And obviously throwing out advice off the top on stream isn't going to think of every possible exception lol.
Warhammer Weekly, come for the hobby stay for the philosophy 😂 I studied philosophy and ethics at 6th form so loved this little tangent! Please do a philosophy show, maybe which school of thought each faction relates too! 30:06
Sorry I missed this. I was going to ask, have you ever painted an army with almost entirely oil paints (not counting priming)? I decided to try with oil paints after struggling with acrylics and found I really enjoyed it.
@@VinceVenturella Cool. I remember the video of you demonstrating oils with a giant, which was one of the videos that inspired me to try. Mind you, I did it all with small units, my Skaven army is all oils except for some metals.
I have a question. Is there a reason I wouldn’t want to just airbrush prime the sprue itself completely before glueing my mini together? Wouldn’t this be an easier way to prime instead of cutting and building first then priming?
Hi Vince, what do you think about a video on Harlequins/painting regular patterns on models? I am finding myself disappointed by my models, I think it’s lack of contrast, do you have any recommendation on how to make a model pop using the classic adeptus mechanicus red/steel/black/bone colour scheme? I would love that! Great video, thank you for everything!
Missed the live show but meant to ask besides golden demon are there any other painting comps at adepticon not comfortable entering demon buf really want to try comp painting especially an open one without restriction on model choice ie manufacturer
Yeah, there are a few there is resin beast which is the Creature Caster competition. There is the Marvel crisis protocol one but that that also includes shatter point stuff so like whatever that company is that makes all of that P3 used to have one. I’m not sure if they still do or not But check the schedule they’ll say for sure.
Honestly, you can get most of the classical philosophy books for free online so you can actually even have to spend money but it would be the same thing you would take in a basic philosophy course so what I mean by that is there are author/philosopher specific books, for example Aristotle‘s Nichomachean ethics, Kant. Warhammer Wives! And the one where Tom was in the dark, smoking a big cigar😆
I would adore philosophy with Vince!
Philosophy with Vince! What an awesome show that would be!! ❤❤❤
+1 for Philosophy episode! Could there be a 'Philosophy of the Age of Sigmar' where we map ideas onto armies like the Player Archetypes?
Love all the new deathrattle stuff, and I love the narrative of a full deathrattle kingdom army, if my hobby backlog wasn't so big I'd be so into it.
The entire transition from warhammer to AoS was a wild year or two as we all went on a Rollercoaster together.
Congrats on 10 years, sir! You are the GOAT! My favorites were the dawnbringers story times, and I am still waiting for the last one :)
We did the last one I don’t remember what show it was in, but we did do part six I did do it

I feel like the mounted skeleton looks...a lot like the posing of chief wolf. Not saying bad, but same-y.

Hey vince, i'm Jeremy From Clay beast creation. Did sculpt one of your Verminlord Deceiver painted and i'd love to see it
Awesome! I love your sculpt!
My favorite moments are always when you get excited about hedonites of slaanesh (no matter which edition)
The episode where heywoah unveiled his AoS mtg crossover cards was fantastic
My favourite moments are episodes with all three of Vince, Tom and Tyler

I can't think of any specific show that is my favorite, but whenever you have heywoah on it's always a great show.
You could do a show where you link AoS armies to their exemplar philosophy?
Favorite moment would be to do an in memoriam of bad takes, like Tom saying how bad Zombies were going to be
Lots of great ones, but the Who is the best God in AOS is one I've watched a couple of times, very funny!
All I want for a 10 year anniversary is Tyler!
That's exactly what I'm here for.
Anybody notice that Vhordrai is basically a copy of Ionus Cryptborn? I think they started with that 3D design file, then just changed up some things. Very similar, the pose, the terrain, etc.
Vince how about a video about Harlequins/painting regular patterns on models?
I would love that!
Great video, thank you for everything!
My favorite shows are those with 2+Tough Doug as guest co-host.
in isolation, the mounted skeleton lord guy is rad. but it context, it hits a lot of beats that recent mounted units do and it feels kind of the same.
For me it was the episode with Story Time: Ushoran and the stupid people!
A philosophy only show?! Yes please.🎉
Hey Vince, just dropping message to say I really enjoy your weekly shows. Even though I dont play AoS, but maybe should try, more of a single figure painter. I'm also new to the channel. I'd love to see you paint an Omega engineer. They have a lot of transparent colors.
Hey Vince, serial lurker here, thanks for all the valuable guidance! If you’re still answering questions, do you have any guidance for making more muted and dark palette pop? I usually pick & paint bright and poppy schemes but have picked up the new Krieg box and would like them to look appropriately grim.
half the spikes on my old zombie dragon have broken off and gotten lost in moves lol
Congrats on the 10 years Vince. I have two questions! 1.) How did you balance getting healthy and achieving your hobby goals? 2.) How do you manage to keep your hobby desk organized? It would be great to see a video of your organization and overall workflow
Great ideas both!
When Tom opened a can of soda and it was so loud! Cant remember what episode unfortunately
I think that was just all of them
Well, when i'm describing the channel to my fellow french friends i'm telling you and your team are Warhammer Philosophers already
Welp, shoot I was having dinner with the fam and missed this!

Yep, it’s an artful way to break the rules, to show the edge of the universe

Sorry I missed this. I was going to ask, have you ever painted an army with almost entirely oil paints (not counting priming)? I decided to try with oil paints after struggling with acrylics and found I really enjoyed it.
My Sons of Behemat are largely in oils, all the skin is done that way, then the details in acryllics.
@@VinceVenturella Cool. I remember the video of you demonstrating oils with a giant, which was one of the videos that inspired me to try. Mind you, I did it all with small units, my Skaven army is all oils except for some metals.
Fav moment was Battletoad gothic, dunno what show it was
I have a question. Is there a reason I wouldn’t want to just airbrush prime the sprue itself completely before glueing my mini together? Wouldn’t this be an easier way to prime instead of cutting and building first then priming?
It can make it hard to glue together, if you're doing a zenithal, then you won't be able to do it easily with everything in the different positions.
@ ty, really appreciate the response.
Love the idea.
I really enjoyed the short talk on philosophy, would you recommend any particular books or authors to someone who has a budding interest in philosophy?
Honestly, you can get most of the classical philosophy books for free online so you can actually even have to spend money but it would be the same thing you would take in a basic philosophy course so what I mean by that is there are author/philosopher specific books, for example Aristotle‘s Nichomachean ethics, Kant. @VinceVenturella I understand, and I appreciate you for pointing me in the right direction. Thank you very much! 🎉
Just have Tyler on.
Hello Vince, first sorry for my bad english, it is not my first language. I've got a room were i paint my minis. With time i am more confident and experimementing with other product then acrylics: oils, enamel, alcool 99%, etc. my problem is the bad smell and the toxicity floating in the room. I was wundering, what can i do for that do i need an air exchanger ? a fan doesnt really work. can you advise me please? thanks for tour time. great show.
I'd recommend an air exchanger, you can get some really great affordable ones that will do the job. Something that vents outside is often best.
Hey Vince, you still doing hobby showcase/Reviews from your followers? I really pushed my self on a basing project for the big green man himself Gordrakk and would love your feedback
I do it through Patreon
Vince dunk on pop-stoicism more please
That could certainly be a whole show my love of the stoics and of the associated philosophers of that movement comes from a long history with engaging with many of the major philosophical movements, mostly western philosophy, but certainly the stoics had their own reactionaries and counterpoints, which are all well founded that’s why we’re not all still Stoic and they didn’t win it. It’s just pop nonsense of people rediscovering lessons that have been there for the past 3000 years and every generation humans are surprised to relearn what the best of humans shared in the past.
Fantastic video. While you may just be a normal guy, you are a pretty great normal guy. Thanks
I appreciate that!
Don't recall the episode but Meph and HeyWoah was a good trio. Thanks for all the years of dedicated content, you're the most reliable thing in all our lives haha
