Standing on your bike is good and helps you climb but it has a consequence standing make your heart rate beats faster and will make you feel tired faster than on a saddle. If your a newbie my advice is not to stand unless it's only a few seconds. Your hands is not strong enough that's one of the reason also. Take time. Lot's of time don't hurry things.cycling is not like that.
@Nova Terrance thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process atm. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
I big tip from me, don’t always go for the first gear because even though it’s quick your legs get exhausted from the quick movement. So go to at least gear 2. Also another tip is also to increase the height of your seat. When you do this your legs will be at a longer distance from the ground which means your legs can go at their full potential to circulate the pedals with more ease.
started doing cycling 5 weeks ago and i keep trying to figure out how to not get easily tired while moving up a hill and this is helping more and more as i keep cycling and watching it
Ride both on and off saddle for long climbs. Riding both on and off-saddle gives your different muscle groups a chance to recover. So i suggest doing on and off saddle intervals. And to ride longer off-saddle, find the right cadence and gear that works for you. Pedaling too hard or spinning too fast (or both)while off-saddle would definitely spike up your heart rate and you’ll end up with muscle cramps or getting bonked.
Thank you so much for this. I finally realized that i was have had been looking for how to handle cycling uphill after I did practice for a weeks. This is great!
Just took up biking again and live in a mountainous area of Southern California. These tips were helpful as I was struggling mightily with hills and having to walk quite a bit. Today, though, I was able to do about 10 miles, and nailed all the hills, two quite long and fairly steep...while still weighing 240lbs. See how I feel in 6months when I'm 70lbs less but regardless, good technique has made a massive difference in my ability, despite my weight.
I also recently started riding and have dropped from 220 lbs down to 205 lbs in the last month and a half from cycling and watching my daily calories. Losing the weight really makes a difference on hills.
@@WH6FQE It's actually sort of an advantage if you're doing mtb, in cornering you get more downforce by putting more weight into the ground. Being 135ish pounds I always struggle to find some grip on the corners even though climbs aren't too bad.

Great advice. A psychological trick that works for me is to focus on a lamppost or tree ahead of me and imagine a rope or elastic band attached there and pulling me uphill. I suppose like singing it tricks you with a distraction. Works for me.
When climbing, sit on the saddle, use a light grip on the tops, and keep your head up (to open up the rib cage). Just use the legs; the rest of the body is only for balance.

I just completed my first (and second) Metric Century Ride last week (I did the entire course myself a few days before the event to make sure I could do the entire 100Km within the allotted time). I am now trying to prepare for a Century Ride scheduled for the last part of September, but this one has a LOT of long hills in it up to 9% grade. Right now there is no possible way that I can complete that ride within the allotted time because it takes me so long to get up the hills. I have to do them in my lowest possible gear (34T) at 60rpm at about 3MPH but even with that I have to stop two or three times on a hill to allow my breathing to slow and my heart rate to come back down because it gets over 180bpm. I am making a little bit of progress as I found a couple hills on today's 57 mile ride that I was able to eventually make it up the hills without stopping that a month ago I had to walk the bike up, but I still have a LONG way to go before I can even think about completing the Honolulu Century Ride in September that I stupidly registered for.
Keep at it. Climbing is usually pretty hard, but eventually you get to a point where you get faster up the climbs and can hopefully control yourself to slow down so it won't be so taxing.

hi, i have a question, please answer, what bike gear is best in racing? if i pit 3 in the front and 7 at the back, it gets hard to leddal, so is 3-7 best for racing?
uhm... it really depends. I think most people don't race with a 3x though. That's more a touring type setup if im not mistaken. IF road riding, most people have 2x. If MTB, mostly 1x. But I don't really race. So I'm not an expert
I'm going to have difficulty explaining how to change gears while climbing. All I can say is that there is a certain timing to it and pedal slowly as you change the gear. As for the gear while climbing, it really depends on the gradient of the climb, your preferred cadence, the terrain. So lots of factors. Best to just go do it and see what works.

Glad it helped.
Really good common sense advice. Nice!
Glad you think so!
Can we use belly breathing method when climbing? Looks like helping for long distance climbing ...
I am not familiar with belly breathing method
hi, i have a question, please answer, what bike gear is best in racing? if i pit 3 in the front and 7 at the back, it gets hard to leddal, so is 3-7 best for racing?
uhm... it really depends. I think most people don't race with a 3x though. That's more a touring type setup if im not mistaken. IF road riding, most people have 2x. If MTB, mostly 1x. But I don't really race. So I'm not an expert
Great. How to change gears while climbing? Or what gear should i try climbing all the way up?
I'm going to have difficulty explaining how to change gears while climbing. All I can say is that there is a certain timing to it and pedal slowly as you change the gear.
As for the gear while climbing, it really depends on the gradient of the climb, your preferred cadence, the terrain. So lots of factors. Best to just go do it and see what works.
Im 105 kilo or 231 pounds I really have a hard time climbing i hope your tips would help
I hope so too!
The best tip is to get a powermeter and know your limits so you can pace up the hill at the correct power.
thats a good one
Had to re-watch this tips after doing Baugo-Budlaan today. haha
Oh you almost did the Triple B (Baugo, Budlaan, Buak). I do not recommend it hahah
Thank you. Very helpful video.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this! Baguhan palang ako sa pag bibike at pinupush ko sarili ko na mag ensayo ng ahon kaagad pero sa tuwing ginagawa ko yon ay palagi akong nahihilo at dumudilim paningin ko,now i know na it takes time para lumakas sa pag bibike🤗🙌
Yup! Just take it slow. The body adjusts faster than you realize
Nice tip sir ! agree jd ko anang mg lose og weight and also sa mental sad jd ang climb mas mgkalisud if mgkadool nka sa end sa climb mao nga dapat keep distracted ra jd and enjoy sa ride :) see you on the road sir ! Godbless

I'm also from cebu and I agree with you. Giatay lisod diay kaayo mu climb tuo ko dali ra HAHAHAHA
hahaha daghan climbing sa cebu!
just pace yourself, madami ang nag oovertake sakin pero pagdating sa kalagitnaan ayon sila makikita mo nagpapahinga na, my point is you dont need to be fast, ang kailangan mo ay marating ang taas nang hindi nagtutulak
True!
Practical tips well said..
Yap, basic beginner mistake is:
Aiming to impress other riders during climbing.

Me as a mountain guy i has to go up no matter what so there's a time when I cycled after a long time and gone straight up and then full speed down in wet environment just rained type it's also dangerous coz that was like cycling after so many years still came alive home 😅
hahah That's the main goal - do not die
I need to start riding my bike to Uni because it's the fastest way to get there but there's a hill on the way there, so here I am.
Hope it helps
Thanks for the tips
No problem!
Simple and honest. ❤
Thanks for watching!
my advice is to like climbing, treat it like a challenge rather than a chore that needs to be done to get to the destination
Good advice
