Funny story: I used all my good ammo on G103's earlier in the game and had to beat the final boss with like 3 magnum rounds and a whole lot of handgun shots. Wouldn't recommend it............. Also I forgot I could quick turn. So I beat him RE1 style.

I agree with you. In my opinion. It's a really good game. It's my favorite Resident Evil game(a long with Resident Evil 1996 the first RE game) People just have to read all the files and see it actually has a disterbing story. You just have to be patient with the game and understand the story. It might be me but, the story is interesting in my opinion.

One thing I really like about the Survivor series is that you can finally get a good look at the enemy models the games were using. In RE 1-3 the enemy is usually way down a hallway, and your character model is blocking your view of the enemy, or else your model is facing the camera, so you’re seeing a close up of the back of the enemies head. But the first person view in this game allows you to finally see a good view of some rather good 3d zombie and monster models.
Growing up with the PS1, I always feel nostalgic for the old 3d models and low-res environments. I guess that's why I've been playing No one lives under the lighthouse and anything made by Puppet Combo
Fun fact: The VA who played the role of Arc Thompson is Patrick Harlan, who was an upcoming American comedian/actor who came to Japan follow a showbiz career. The guy somehow built a steady career since them and regularly comes up on Japanese TV, even did some VA for animes as well.
This reminds me that Code Veronica had a mercenaries-type mode and you could play that in first person as well. It was a little jank but I remember being surprised that it actually wasn't too shitty
Great example of why I subscribe to the Gman. This game itself doesnt hold any nostalgia factor for me, having past me by, despite being a fan of the resi series. That being said, Gman brings a great mix of humour, insight and a clear passion for gaming, making any game he covers at least interesting to watch through his channels lens. Keep up the great work.

That's because it's a Dino Crisis game not an RE game. So I have no idea how you think it could be Survivor 4, especially since it was released a year before Dead Aim.
I remember playing this game once in the Philippines where we used a different type of lightgun one that had a joystick on it and it played like a dream as you would control your movement with your thumb.
I love how Handgun D is a WWII Japanese Type 14 Nambu pistol. Sooooo random lol. Probably one of those situations where the developers just saw a gun they thought looked cool and added it in.
Japan has a history of importing American guns post WWII, so Japanese guns tend to be stupid crap and we're happy to send them new stuff whenever they want to buy it. Probably just wanted to have a Japanese gun.
I gotta say, from what I'm seeing and what I remember from playing the game, it IS a scary experience. That cockroach dungeon part and the aspect of having to helplessly watch the tyrant walk slowly towards you like while you empty pistol pullets into him, is effectively terrifying!
Still love that game. For me it has some unique nostalgic childhood vibe. Yeah, it's not great in modern terms of quality but I'm a sucker for oldschool janky games. Besides, I liked the fact it was in first person, which for me added to immersion. Now that I have a lightgun, I can enjoy playing this thing a few more times.

You need to play dead aim Gman!! By far the best light gun resident evil game. It also has probably the most underrated save room theme in the entire series, its got vibes of an old arcade game in its theme. It generally gave me a few scares as a kid aswell, it's worth a shot man.
Needs to be played with a mouse and controller, I'll add. Thumbstick control for the aiming is awful, but the game plays great if you plug in a USB mouse.
...and yes, we just watched "Society" for the first time this month. Not many movies can surprise me in this day and age, let alone one made 30-40 years ago! Absolutely fantastic!

What's even worse than the sequel is the fact Survivor's story is technically cannon, I'd def be interested in playing it again sometime in my life with VR or a lightgun that somehow worked with a PC tho lol. I had to play it on a PS2 back when I played it and no light gun for me :(

I never played it until I gave it a try on my RG351P... Mainly because of the Angry Video Game Nerd video about it. It's neat as a handheld game. During my drink-every-night PS1 years Resident Evil Nemesis was more my speed. N64 was that system that you went to Walmart to play, you got free PS1 games from Pizza Hut and Magazines, and nobody had touched a Light Gun since Nintenderp's Duck Hunt! So I'm glad that I waited all these years to play the Resident Evil shooter because it would have just pissed me off to waste $20 on it back then.
Survivor was actually the first RE game I ever played (RE2 was 2nd). So, from that unique perspective, I can say it got me into the series, but I was surprised when I found out most of the other RE games played so differently.
When compared to Survivor 2, Dead Aim is a masterpiece and feels like an actual evolution of what the first game set out to do. Dead Aim is the true Survivor 2 in my opinion.
I remember them Gman, I remember and have and played them all. Some of them are painful, and a few are very, very, painful. But then there are the good ones.
A Survivor remake/reboot with reused 7/8/RE2/RE3 assets, to me, sounds like a better decision than remaking 4 for some fucking stupid reason. Probably be a much better side addition than Resistance and Reverse.
And I'm over here still waiting for my CV remake, although after seeing what Capcom has done with 3 and RE4VR I think I might prefer they don't touch CV with a ten foot pole

Hearing "Facebook 2021" in the back of your mind every time a cut or static burst happens rips a lot of people right out of the experience.
These guys were teaching us the basics of some of our most difficult inventory managements ever and to be honest I don’t think there’s anything more polite than adding in the feature of the whole game pausing when reloading lol. Good luck doing that in any game after

I Just started Resident Evil "The Darkside Chronicles" on Wii (never had a Wii before !) and it's surprisingly good ! I still need to find the "gun attachement" for the wiimote, but I was genuinely surprised how good it felt !
Gun Survivor 2 is pretty fun for the arcade. It uses a arcade gun with a special potentiometer that's allows the gun to be moved like a analog stick. Great video..
What about Resident Evil Dead Aim? I remember that being pretty decent, and I think it was because it supported a lightgun with a dpad on it... at least I think so, it's been a long time.

This was my favorite RE game on PS1. I played all essential RE games on PS1 but this is just most memorable in terms of survival horror, it was very scary at its time, and main reason as I remember is the good sound atmosphere. It has a bad voice acting, bad level design most of the time, and has no save system even though I seen typewriters all around. But even with all this in mind, gameplay works perfectly, at least most of time you will enjoy this game. I played other entries too, but this one stayed in my memory as the best one. Thanks gman for taking a look, I was wondering when you will make a video about this game.
it is so sad that this game ruined the whole franchise and gave gun survivor a bad name, while a small game came out on ps2 GUN SURVIVOR DEAD AIM, that game even support mouse control on ps2 and was one of the most amazing spin offs of the franchise and that is sadly lost to time now, and i wish they remaster it for VR.
I remember Resident Evil Survivor. My mate was the only friend I knew with a PlayStation at the time. When he got RES 12 year old me went straight to his house & we took turns after each of us died in the game. We managed to complete it in a day but it was still a fun time! 🤘😎🤘
More than 15 years later and I still remember rooms from this game. This was the game that taught me to give things a fair chance- didn’t have much money back then, used modded consoles and burnt games- but if I could support those developers today I totally would.

Fun fact: If I recall correctly, In this game, you can't be damaged by most (if not all) enemies if you're not facing them. Yup, Generic White Male n⁰ 64 can pull off the "If I can't see them, they can't do anything" trick.
Gun Survivor (at least the PC version) is secretly a Blair Witch game, since the enemies can't hurt you if you're not direclty looking at them. You can basically speedrun the game by just running around with your face to the walls.
I remember my friend's dad back in the day imitating the main character at the start of the game. "Where am I?". Only we don't speak English where I'm from so he'd say something more like "Pew rima?". I think he used to say "Die, Vincent!" correctly though, but we still found it funny. Man. The oddest things stick with me after 20 years.
oh my god that IS a panther sound. This whole time I thought those guys were filled with some kind of high pressure gas inside their suits and when you kill them that long sound is them deflating and turning to mush. Damn son this game
I can't wait for you to cover Dead Aim one day. Played it back in my PS2 when I did not even know it was called "Dead Aim" nor even part of the RE series. I wouldn't call it perfect, but it definitely had one of the best "horror" atmospheres for a RE game since it doesn't really focus much on action, at least in it's first section in the Ship. It also has a great OST and a really good save room theme.
The funny thing about that "Survivor is the first RE game with full 3D environments" claim is that while it's technically true, Survivor still got kinda shown up. Even putting aside Code Veronica, Dino Crisis also by Capcom came out about 5 months earlier (or a whole year earlier for Americans) than Survivor and also had full 3D rooms in a very RE-style game on the same console. So really, I don't know if I'd even say "first RE game to be in full 3D" is a big accomplishment.
This is how I visualized the Tri-Squads from S D Perry Resident Evil Caliban Cove, these squads in this game, Resident Evil Survivor, intelligent gun totting zombies.
I remember when I was hyped for this game after seeing full-page ads in magazines and being pretty disappointed by it when I had a chance to check it out. I remember that outdoor area with the Mr. Xs everywhere being absolutely like trudging through a swap because it was so slow as the enemies came around. They got the concept better down better with Dead Aim on PS2 because of the extra buttons on the Guncon 2, but even that one was kind of a take it or leave it. Seeing how this one was a single-player game, they should have just made the first port for a controller and the second port for a gun so you didn't have to choose one or the other.

Still won't mind a remaster/remake of this game. Just let us have the option to play it in first person or vr with classic or modern (re4 vr) gameplay as options, with an optional co-op with friends, and add in a Mercenaries mode for single or co-op play too.

My survivor record is like 10 mins. I legit beat it while my buddy napped behind me. This would have been a good on rails VR game tbh. My guilty gaming pleasure is the REs PSone voice acting. I love it. Fun fact Survivor was supposed to be a Arcade game but due to the decline op Arcades and the influx of consoles, they went console with the hope of people having the light guns
I always liked Resident Evil Survivor! I thought after the original trilogy with the camera angle gameplay, the FPS was a very good touch for me at the time, since I was playing other shooters like Medal of Honor and Medal of Honor Underground, 2 FPS masterpieces of that era in the PS One.

So I'm glad that I waited all these years to play the Resident Evil shooter because it would have just pissed me off to waste $20 on it back then.
Survivor was actually the first RE game I ever played (RE2 was 2nd). So, from that unique perspective, I can say it got me into the series, but I was surprised when I found out most of the other RE games played so differently.
When compared to Survivor 2, Dead Aim is a masterpiece and feels like an actual evolution of what the first game set out to do. Dead Aim is the true Survivor 2 in my opinion.
I remember them Gman, I remember and have and played them all. Some of them are painful, and a few are very, very, painful. But then there are the good ones.
A Survivor remake/reboot with reused 7/8/RE2/RE3 assets, to me, sounds like a better decision than remaking 4 for some fucking stupid reason. Probably be a much better side addition than Resistance and Reverse.
Plus, we already saw what would happen to RE4 if it got the remake treatment. RE4VR was heavily censored.
There is a Survivor remake mod for HL2 EP2 that came out not too long ago.
And I'm over here still waiting for my CV remake, although after seeing what Capcom has done with 3 and RE4VR I think I might prefer they don't touch CV with a ten foot pole

What bothers most people is how distracting this stuff is. Hearing "Facebook 2021" in the back of your mind every time a cut or static burst happens rips a lot of people right out of the experience.
These guys were teaching us the basics of some of our most difficult inventory managements ever and to be honest I don’t think there’s anything more polite than adding in the feature of the whole game pausing when reloading lol. Good luck doing that in any game after

I Just started Resident Evil "The Darkside Chronicles" on Wii (never had a Wii before !) and it's surprisingly good ! I still need to find the "gun attachement" for the wiimote, but I was genuinely surprised how good it felt !
You do realize that you don't need the gun attachment, right?

Gun Survivor 2 is pretty fun for the arcade. It uses a arcade gun with a special potentiometer that's allows the gun to be moved like a analog stick. Great video..
What about Resident Evil Dead Aim? I remember that being pretty decent, and I think it was because it supported a lightgun with a dpad on it... at least I think so, it's been a long time.
I believe the saying is art from adversity. But, you're right on the concept. The limitation of the medium helps with creativity.
Nostalgic flashbacks. Played on ps1 and psp. I like this game. Very cozy, great soundtracks. Of course not the best in RE series, but also not worst.

The Umbrella "Special Forces" are actually called UT Trooper and aren't actually human but : "Umbrella's clean-up squad consist of genetically engineered and very disposable UT Troopers. Armed with an MP5 machine gun and protected by body armour, they often attack in numbers. Key troopers will engage you in close combat while others stand back and snipe from high vantage points. When killed, UT Troopers dissolve into the ground, leaving no trace that they ever existed."

This was my favorite RE game on PS1. I played all essential RE games on PS1 but this is just most memorable in terms of survival horror, it was very scary at its time, and main reason as I remember is the good sound atmosphere. It has a bad voice acting, bad level design most of the time, and has no save system even though I seen typewriters all around. But even with all this in mind, gameplay works perfectly, at least most of time you will enjoy this game. I played other entries too, but this one stayed in my memory as the best one. Thanks gman for taking a look, I was wondering when you will make a video about this game.
it is so sad that this game ruined the whole franchise and gave gun survivor a bad name, while a small game came out on ps2 GUN SURVIVOR DEAD AIM, that game even support mouse control on ps2 and was one of the most amazing spin offs of the franchise and that is sadly lost to time now, and i wish they remaster it for VR.
I remember Resident Evil Survivor. My mate was the only friend I knew with a PlayStation at the time. When he got RES 12 year old me went straight to his house & we took turns after each of us died in the game. We managed to complete it in a day but it was still a fun time!

More than 15 years later and I still remember rooms from this game. This was the game that taught me to give things a fair chance- didn’t have much money back then, used modded consoles and burnt games- but if I could support those developers today I totally would.

Gun Survivor (at least the PC version) is secretly a Blair Witch game, since the enemies can't hurt you if you're not direclty looking at them. You can basically speedrun the game by just running around with your face to the walls.
I remember my friend's dad back in the day imitating the main character at the start of the game. "Where am I?". Only we don't speak English where I'm from so he'd say something more like "Pew rima?". I think he used to say "Die, Vincent!" correctly though, but we still found it funny. Man. The oddest things stick with me after 20 years.
oh my god that IS a panther sound. This whole time I thought those guys were filled with some kind of high pressure gas inside their suits and when you kill them that long sound is them deflating and turning to mush. Damn son this game
I can't wait for you to cover Dead Aim one day. Played it back in my PS2 when I did not even know it was called "Dead Aim" nor even part of the RE series. I wouldn't call it perfect, but it definitely had one of the best "horror" atmospheres for a RE game since it doesn't really focus much on action, at least in it's first section in the Ship. It also has a great OST and a really good save room theme.
The funny thing about that "Survivor is the first RE game with full 3D environments" claim is that while it's technically true, Survivor still got kinda shown up.
Even putting aside Code Veronica, Dino Crisis also by Capcom came out about 5 months earlier (or a whole year earlier for Americans) than Survivor and also had full 3D rooms in a very RE-style game on the same console. So really, I don't know if I'd even say "first RE game to be in full 3D" is a big accomplishment.
For those who don't remember this but Survivor 1 is mentioned at the Start of RE 0 along with RE 2 3 and Code Veronica
I’ve seen that there is a modder making survivor into a full blown old school resident evil game. Tank controls, fixed camera angles the lot.

Resident evil code veronica is still an old classic and seeing people speedrun that game just brings me joy
I remember when I was hyped for this game after seeing full-page ads in magazines and being pretty disappointed by it when I had a chance to check it out. I remember that outdoor area with the Mr. Xs everywhere being absolutely like trudging through a swap because it was so slow as the enemies came around. They got the concept better down better with Dead Aim on PS2 because of the extra buttons on the Guncon 2, but even that one was kind of a take it or leave it.
Seeing how this one was a single-player game, they should have just made the first port for a controller and the second port for a gun so you didn't have to choose one or the other.

The use of Street Fighter II continue theme in the end was a perfect way to cap the video.
My survivor record is like 10 mins. I legit beat it while my buddy napped behind me. This would have been a good on rails VR game tbh. My guilty gaming pleasure is the REs PSone voice acting. I love it. Fun fact Survivor was supposed to be a Arcade game but due to the decline op Arcades and the influx of consoles, they went console with the hope of people having the light guns

I always liked Resident Evil Survivor! I thought after the original trilogy with the camera angle gameplay, the FPS was a very good touch for me at the time, since I was playing other shooters like Medal of Honor and Medal of Honor Underground, 2 FPS masterpieces of that era in the PS One.
