Honestly I think it’s that many altos don’t even know that they’re even capable of going into those ranges with their voices so they don’t bother to try. Almost everything written for altos is quite low. We’re told we have low voices. I pushed to go up a little more and a then a little more simply because my voice *sounds* high and I didn’t have the gravitas I heard from other altos. In choirs I was always put to sing mezzo parts because of the sound of my voice, but I found it difficult without the right technique and got frustrated. And then I discovered head voice. And I discovered that everything I had been taught about altos was a lie! LOL Thanks for this warmup, Jeff. Almost everything I try to do in my warmup that usually requires three or four videos is right here! Only thing I’ll need is something to work on my much lower register, but this video is great. I’m on my way to a gig now and I feel well ready!
I dont mean to be so offtopic but does anyone know a tool to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly lost my login password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me.
@Franklin Jaziel Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Hello Holly! Good morning to you as well! Thank you for watching and trying out these videos! You may have recently noticed that mid roll ads started popping up on my channel. RUclips activated them all on all eligible videos, without giving us an option as to whether or not we wanted that. I noticed on this video, that it had mid roll ads enabled, I have taken care of that so that if they interrupted your practice before, they won't again. If you come across any others while you're going through the videos, please let me know with a comment! Thank you again! Jeff
Grateful for your support and guidance Jeff!!! I really needed your help - going in to record my first originals Thursday!!! V exciting. Grateful for you.
14:47 I appreciate this part especially- like you said most people don't work that range for altos, but even as an A3 I'll sometimes have to spend most of a song in that range
After seeing your appogio video (spelling?), I am starting to incorporate it and I notice a huge difference in support and stability, but its like a such new movement that I actually get dizzy and light headed! Is this normal?
Can be! Just be careful. No passing out. Glad to hear it's making a difference. Adopting the appoggio breath management system was the most significant adjustment to my technique! Jeff
Low alto here. I do enjoy those but I get no further than D#5/E5 and can go a good deal lower than is required here (about A2/Ab2). Think I'll try the tenor warmup! ;D
You may need to work on registration events if you can't find a comfortable fach. In terms of your practice, I would avoid videos like this one, that have extended range, in the title for now. Find your comfort zone, work on vowel alignment, work on appoggio, work on your registration events and your fach will present itself! Best! Jeff
Absolutely! You just have to keep in mind that the exercises will not be taking into account where your secondo passaggio is as it was done with the alto range secondo passaggio in mind. Best! Jeff
When it comes to breath support which is one of the main important things and techniques to achieve is it possible that someone does not that sell you have bad breath support but lung capacity with asthma cuz I'm wondering if I don't have good breath support or just the capabilities due to having asthma poison different breathing techniques to develop breath support with someone who has asthma versus normal finger without breathing complications
The musculature around the abdomen should still be able to create sub-glottic pressure despite your asthma, though overall lung capacity could be compromised. You might ask your doctor about this if it really inhibits you. Best! Jeff

I love your pentatonic scale near the beginning which had a Japanese tone . Your piano sounds beautiful.
Thanks Jeff...this is a nice long one.
Thank you! You're welcome! Enjoy! I enjoy playing those scales/exercises too!

THANK YOU!!!!!
What range is covered here? I got all the high notes :) Feeling proud. Thank you Jeff for the practice!
This was great! Can you please say how high and low we went, note-wise?
After seeing your appogio video (spelling?), I am starting to incorporate it and I notice a huge difference in support and stability, but its like a such new movement that I actually get dizzy and light headed! Is this normal?

I find this too low and the last notes of mezzo too high.....what exactly am i?😅 And how to go about the practice?
You may need to work on registration events if you can't find a comfortable fach. In terms of your practice, I would avoid videos like this one, that have extended range, in the title for now. This feels more natural for me than the tenor. Is it okay for me to use this as a warm up as a high tenor?
Absolutely! You just have to keep in mind that the exercises will not be taking into account where your secondo passaggio is as it was done with the alto range secondo passaggio in mind.
Best!
Jeff
I get light-headed after doing the lip trills. Why?
Possible that your vocal folds are more abducted, and consequently passing more air than is necessary at a given tessitura.

Jeff
Can you please do a warm up series with for people with vocal nodes, or tips on regular speaking for people with vocal nodes? Thanks!
Do you have nodes? Have you seen your ENT?
If you have or suspect you have nodes you may need to take some vocal rest.
Best,
Jeff
I cant lip trill....
I'd like to talk to you about your voice's extended warranty... I mean, Range
Ha!! Love it!
