2nd time you've mentioned the new Born soldiers only gives lethals if within 18" (3:30) Where is this condition written I cant find it anywhere.

@MordianGlory I call this memory bleed. Where two mix together unconciously before spoken or thought conciously. Like saying football court. When you meant football field or basketball court.
Unless this comes out in plastic for us, we can expect this to go to legends at any random time. GW has been consistently nuking forgeworld, so I wouldn't put stocks in this staying around for any serious amount of time.
And that's why I've not considered one. Resin isn't fun and the price is another turn off. Since Rogal Dorns have come down in point costs (240pts now) this is a much better option and it is T12 and plastic. So unless the Defender is going to drop in points to a significant level, it is just not viable.
yeah all the guard FW stuff will be dead come the codex release . so its not probably worth the investment if you play events etc .. casually fine as legends are cool
I think it's at least worth noting that the base Malcador does have a plastic kit now for the solar auxilia range, so there is a possibility of getting the others and keeping the rules alive.
After seeing what happened to the Orks FW range Im getting as many games with my FW models as I can before they inevitably lose rules. Which is a shame because a lot of our FW stuff is going to be in plastic thanks to the Heresy game but we wont be able to use it
This is a plastic kit for 30k so I doubt it won’t be available
As cool as it is - everything forgeworld looks to be going the way of the dodo. I'm honestly convinced there won't be a single FW unit legal in matched play at the start of 11th edition.

DONT BUY BE A SMART SHOPPER, only plastic set is from Horus Heresy. Remember the dreadnoughts they took away at start of 10th.

TO CORRECT YOU MORDIAN! it doesn't have a plastic kit that malcador heavy tank kit only had two varients that can be used in 40k (battle tank and annihlator) the defender is a resin kit that is marked as "sold out online" so unless we get a plastic kit of it (which hasn't been announced but is likely given it's siblings in the battle tank/annihlator come in the heavy tank kit) it's going to get phased out like so many cool kits that gw have decided they don't want to make a profit on. yeah i am salty about it not being avalible in plastic still as i want to own a trio of them without having to conversion build or mess around with resin

Really wanna get an A7V version of one of these guys. Maybe a kitbash or some scrap bash? But I've never done anything from scrap 🤔
Have been running the Malcador Defender for a bit, and have to say it has won my heart, as it is a real all rounder tanks when switching out two of the heavy bolters for the lascannons, and even with obly 15 heavy bolter shots, it has proven very valuable against units with invuln saves

@@eenis1281 In my mind at least you should always take the lascannons instead. You have more than enough AP-1 shots with the heavy bolter, and getting enough lethal hits that way. The lascannon gives you some more high strength AT

I´d love to get me a Malcador chassis or two, but i fear the legends-cut. My local group sadly refuses to play with legends rules
could just run it as a proxy for a rogal Dorn , I know some friends do that with theirs , no problems
I would rather have two Leman Russ eradicators get a similar amount of shots with three heavy bolt each sponson also ignore cover and strength shots on the main gun . You can also shoot this combat which is slightly better potentially two of them for the same price as the defender.
Also don’t need to go heavy bolters. But just in terms of a dakka to dakka. I get you don’t get a demolisher. But you get two tanks you can push up and charge with as well

This tank is garbage can on tracks. It costs 310 points. You can either get Rogal Dorn for 240 which is much better at killing vehicles AND is tougher, or you can ger LR Demolisher+Vanquisher at 345 points for Demolisher Cannon, 6 heavy bolter shots, TWO hunter killers, TWO heavy stubbers, much more wounds and a Vanquisher cannon on top of that. Though I listed that loudout only to match what malcador defender is packing, It's much better to have 2 lascannons and 4 multi-meltas instead of 6 heavy bolters.

maybe time to re-review leman russ punisher now that it can lethal down armor/monsters, its half the price of the defender

Well you can always just convert the plastic one. It is a gorgeous kit, though the resin ones (yes i have two: ) are easy to build. Otherwise there's a great papercraft pdf made by Patoroch. Papercraft is great. I wish I'd of had files like that when i had a job with down time (or just when i was a broke kid)

Hey Mordian an honest question, where are you seeing the guard has to be within 18” to gain born soldiers? I’ve looked on app and the dataslate and it just states the unit must have line of sight and targeting the desired foe for their regiment/squadron keyword conditions to be active. I just want to make sure I’m not missing anything.

its a nice idea but at 310 points? nah its not gonna be that good, better taking 2 punishers/Eradicators/Vanquishers instead and getting 6 instead of 7 heavy bolters and the other assorted weapons, Or a Dorn and getting 18 heavy stubber shots (yes ik no AP and DMG 1)

you can get it through second hand markets, 3d printing, conversion and more heretical means
Yeah it's worth noting that even though Tim says it has a plastic kit, the horus heresy version can only build the battle tank an annihilator variants.

No, of course it isn't. It's Forgeworld, it obscenely expensive in both ways, it can vanish from support rules at any time and it's broken only that it isn't useful at all.
