    Had this problem the shift solenoid didn't help. Problem I had was that the direct drive clutch steels were bending under uped shift pressure due to tuned transmission. Sonnax makes a hi cap direct drive apply kit that puts a thicker apply plate and thins backing plate so steels won't bend making the tcm think it needs more fluid that it should. Put this kit in and there won't be any releaning when switching tunes.

      It works to eliminate the flare in most cases. In cases where it doesn't, things have simply progressed too far. If that is the case, we can set you up with the parts to rebuild your own trans or can hook you up with a crate trans from one of about eight different builders. Good luck!

    Curious if you have any thoughts on a 6.0 transmission that seems to shimmy/shutter under load going up a mountain pass but not all the time. Does not seem to do it in 4x4 and has never done it on flat highway driving. Can't recreate the problem at the shop it is currently at. Seems to happen around the 50mph mark and have not identified the gear as of this time. If I back off the throttle it stops the shimmy/shuttering. Could it be the beginning of this problem you are discussing here?
    Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
    Cheers!

Once warmed up drives excellent?and my transmission is fully rebuilt. Some people I asked say it’s normal 6.0 acts up if you don’t let transmission warm up is this true? Any person give me some advise?

  • @rodgraff1782
    @rodgraff1782 Год назад

    I replaced both the solenoids, billet dummy plug, and pressure switch from your company several years ago. I also upgraded to the deep pan, and 6.4 filter several years later. I also had installed the dieselsite external full flow filtration system, several years before that. A year or so ago I developed a random 3/5 shift flair. I have always serviced the transmission, and the external toilet paper filter. Did everything right, with all the recommended upgrades, and still developed a fair problem bad enough to set an over fueling code, because of the increase in engine speed during the flair. I have never experienced the tow haul light coming on. Could you advise what else I could do to remedy the cause of the flair. I am not running any type of tune, and have never drove the truck hard. I do tow a 6600 lb trailer once in a while. I also run Amsoil transmission fluid well before I did any of the modifications. Pleas help

    • @btwbrand
      @btwbrand Год назад +2

      If you already have the modified Solenoids then you are likely out of clutch material. Every time you allow the transmission to do that flare it rapidly removes clutch lining from your clutches. It only takes a hand full of major unmitigated flares to wipe out the linings completely and put your transmission in a steel on steel situation which rapidly overheats fluid and can weld the steels together.
      If this isn't the problem then your apply piston could be leaking.
      In both cases you've used the transmission all you can and now is the time to rebuild it or trade it in for a rebuilt unit because the more you wait the worse the damage will be.
      All the mitigation steps told about in this video and done by you are to hold off problems that are known to develop. Not completely cure them. No mention of what year truck or even how many miles it has but eventually all transmissions need to be rebuilt.

  • @lbiffin
    @lbiffin 2 года назад

    What about custom tuning? I Recently deleted my 6.4 and installed a pretty mild 80hp custom tune. I don’t drive the truck often and I’m usually pretty gentle with it so after about a week I let her rip and the trans was kind of all over the place. In one instance I floored it at like 25 mph and it downshifted hard and barked the 37” tires.
    I thought about adding the modified direct clutch solenoid but the guys that built my tune said it may not do anything since the tune already raises line pressure in the trans. Is there any benefit to adding these parts to a tuned truck? Thanks!

    • @ficmrepair
      @ficmrepair  2 года назад

      Yes. Tuning can only boost line pressure by at most 25%. Running the modified Electronic Pressure Control solenoid doubles the line pressure. Please just ensure that you run the modified EPC and the modified direct solenoids together.

      Hey, Dallas! I'd say that the two solenoids mentioned in this video - the EPC *www.ficmrepair.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=275/category_id=-1/mode=prod/prd275.htm) and the Direct (www.ficmrepair.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=274/category_id=-1/mode=prod/prd274.htm) make total sense as things to try. Of course, while you are in there, you might pick up a trans dummy plug (www.ficmrepair.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=343/category_id=-1/mode=prod/prd343.htm), but you are good in the pan and filter department (well, unless a filter is due) as you have a 6.4. Hope this helps!

I'll never trust diesel site ever again. And I will openly try to dissuade anybody from using them to purchase anything. Mostly because they refused to refund me on their defective product. Not even talking about the cost of 2 tows. 2 days of work missed for me to do the drivers side and 3 months and $1300 to pay someone to do the passenger side because it was winter and I ain't got a heated work space. So I'd like to give diesel site a big thumbs down!
