Great video, Stef. You’re really good at teaching the technical parts of playing a wind synth, and there are so few people doing it. Keep it up, man! Thank you!
Thanks so much for this and all your other videos. I’m a keyboard player who just added Ableton Live to my usual Logic / MainStage combo and today I ordered a Re.corder after deciding I wanted to learn a different kind of instrument (as a kid in school I learned xylophone, so zero experience with wind instruments). So your videos couldn’t have been more on target. Keep up the good work and best of luck with your musical and YT endeavors.
Thanks so much for this. Just got an EMEO in today and was struggling to get it working w ableton. Is there a way too boost the overall breath amount? Right now when I'm blowing hard the filter is only reaching about the halfway mark
Yes! Some of them, like Poly, Analogue, and Simpler retrigger the envelope, which I don't like. Wavetable, Operator, Bass, and Sampler have a mono/legato mode that behaves more like Vital in that it doesn't retrigger the envelope and instead is a smooth glide.
First off, I really appreciate the video! This looks like a lot of fun, and I immediately went to try to replicate these steps. I've got my Ewi solo plugged into ableton, sending on CC11. I know it is sending on 11 because 1: it makes the synth I am controlling with it make sound 2. I can make SWAM instruments listening on channel 11 make sound But when I click 'midi map' to map my breath control to the filter and then blow, nothing happens. I can map keys, knobs, whatever, but it refuses to accept my breath as a valid mapping, despite it actively sending signals on CC11. No mapping appears on the left side of ableton, at all. Any advice?
I of course solved this minutes after posting my shame publicly, after trying to fix it for hours. For anyone else with this issue: the fix for me in ableton was going to Preferences -> Midi Mapping and enabling all of the "Out" channels on the EWI row (midi, sync) in addition to the input channels. Go figure!

Great info! Thanks!
How did I miss this🙀

The "add breath control" steps aren't working for me. Where are you clicking when you say "click on that" around 4:08?
the frequency dial in EQ8!
Thank you for some great information! Do most of the synths you suggested have a mono/legato mode?

Hi, if i dont have command on my keyboard, what should i do
use "control" instead!

In Preferences, go to the "Link // Tempo //MIDI" tab and make sure Track and Remote boxes are checked next to the EWI Solo in the MIDI Ports list
