What happens if you install a 2 inch taller tire on a ATV or Side by Side

- I took of the stock tires on my kawasaki Mule Pro MX LE
and installed some Tusk Terrabite Radial ATV UTV Tire Kit Set Of Four 4 Tires 27x9-12 And 27x11-12
These were 8 ply road tires vs the 4 ply I had
I love the upgrade
I bought them off ebay but put a link it from somewhere just to show what they look like
www.rockymount...
28 lbs wow! Rough ride?
I tried this on my P 500 original tires 24" spacers and 28s later ,39 mph to cutout on 24 s 43 mph to cutout. A little gain for the money spent. I've worn these out since, taking the spacers off and going to 26 s next time. These were all on same stock rims.
I would suspect stock tires would better for off road. Taller tires look to be smoother on a trail.
I just ordered the same Tusk Terrabite 27x11/12 and love them on my 2020 Polaris Rzr Fox Edition Trail, great overall tire performance wise. Cool video
Excessive psi buddy, 4-8 is usually ideal for atv utv tires.
sure hope you dont run those tires at 30lbs atv tires are to be soft so they dont puncture, i run 8-7lbs max
Great video, thanks for the information. Just made a similar size swap on my Sportsman, haven't put them on yet but I would expect similar results.
Try all terrain tires on road they are nightmare to drive after 25 miles the noise the make is too much 😂
It looks like it took more time to get to 40mph then stock. Would like to see at 0 to 40mph test on both. Nice video
It will take longer to accelerate with taller tire.but gain top end speed
Are sport utility tires that much different than ATV tires. I would think running 30 or 28 pounds of air would be excessive. My sportsman says a max of 14 pounds.. just asking not judging
did it seem that the engine had a harder time to get the vehicle up to speed once you put on the larger tires ?
This is very useful for Mx owners thanks. But did I understand correctly? You put up to 30psi to max out height and road manners? Off road we typically air down. I was also looking at the terrabites so my big question is will they really be taller if I’m only using 10 psi? At the beginning of the video they looked the same height.ahhh. I see the tusks were not installed and pumped at first...
Carlisle all trail. Best tire ever
what happens if you use all 4 front tires??? meaning smaller that is thinner rear tires??? for street, obviously
So you didn't put a lift kit on it? I'm looking at bigger tires without lifting it
Check out John Hester video on the Mx. lifts don’t work. But you can pull off a 28
Curious why you couldn’t go faster. If the machine governs you at 44 mph. And taller tires travel further thanks a short. (Larger circumference) The speedometer should have wound up to the 44mph. You didn’t show that. Unless the speed comes off the front rotation witch you haven’t changed. I’d like to see this demonstration with a full set. Great video. Just my 2 cents. I’m comparing to when I went from a 26” tire to a 33” on another vehicle. Speedo showed 10% slower than actual. .
Your speedometer will display 8% slower speed than your actual speed. Your top end speed will be 8% faster. Your odometer is calibrated to show actual speed with 25" tires. Your tires will take a specific number of revolutions per minute to travel one mile. If you put larger tires on, the tires will travel 8% further with those same number of revolutions = actual speed is 8% faster that displayed speed. You'll have a higher top end speed but your speedometer won't show it. If your ride does have the extra torque, you might not realize the increases.
How would you get the “extra torque”?
@@michaelbury1941 you would lose torque but gain the ability to put torque down more since you will have less wheel spin from the increased foot print. And you will have to give it more throttle to make up for the higher gearing if you are pulling something. But the tires are heavier so you need to make sure you have enough power to spin the heavier wheel and taller tire, which changes the final drive ratio
@@michaelbury1941 the other message didn’t seem to answer your question. But in any belt drive it’s a matter of swapping rollers and clutch springs. Some install shims ect to cause a lower gear ratio in the bottom end. But every low end mid you do affects your top end so you should try to find "your" sweet spot.
Sounds like it doesn't spin up as fast with the taller tires, lost power out the hole.
Not so much lost power. Just lost time. It being a bigger tire just takes more time to spin up but the quad is still at the same amount of power. ;)
with a taller tire you'll gain more speed but you'll lose some power
What is the diameter of the wheel hub on your mx
did it effect the clutch at all?
How does it run with all 4? How are they off road?
Why so many psi in the tires?
Probably for road riding with better handling. Not for trails
Any updates ? Did you replace the front tires?
What was the rpm difference in the new tires from the old ones?
Couple hundred. Lost some low end tho
I would look into getting new piston return springs.
You probably dont give a shit but does any of you know of a method to get back into an Instagram account?
I somehow lost my password. I appreciate any help you can offer me
@Bryce Reece Instablaster :)
@David Brody thanks so much for your reply. I found the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@David Brody it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my ass :D
@Bryce Reece You are welcome =)
You will be one inch higher ?
In a mans world an extra inch is a lot.
@@timberray9572 No doubt
Larger tires should slow down your speedo......Right?
Yeah, speedo will be slower then actual speed due to the internal gear for transmission, for speedo, and taller tire, changing the factory set-up ratio. Only slightly unless the change was radical. Of course, vice versa rule applies. ;)
Did you notice if your machine was higher off the ground just curious
И я купил такие покрышки.
Nice video!
you gain 2 mph just going straight!! when you go uphills?? the oposite!!
HAVE ONE ON ORDER , WAS WONDERING IF 28 0NCH TIE WOULD WORK ?
It should.its just harder on the equipment. More leverage and more weight and taller gearing
28psi🤔just fill them with concrete
Lol.they would be a very heavy tire tho.run flats
bigger tires dont gain speed or at least talkable difference, more hp gains top speed and clutching gains acceleration, larger tire sizes than stock just puts extra stress and shorter life on bearings , bushings, ball joints , belts , transmissions, drive shafts , prop shafts , u joints, differentials, just to name some , and even if clutch kit and hp is added to combat the larger than stock tires, its like putting more weights on one end of a rubber band, eventually something or worse, multiple things will break its just plain physics and science nothing else to say otherwise would be like saying water runs up a mountain not saying it cant be done just know the risks and understand them and consider the pros n cons
Interesting
I bought the 28 inch on a hunch they would work well because of Dave Hester's video with a Pro MX here.. ruclips.net/video/DvDZR0BbGHI/видео.html and this one too..... ruclips.net/video/rE013eOLSaA/видео.html . I also am working on the speedo block at 45mph since mine has no issue with reaching higher speed then 45MPH. I will post soon.
45 mph max dang thats putt putt super slow my old school 2011 OG rzr4 800 was way faster than that i had a derby moped in maui 49cc that did 55 mph time to upgrade. I dont think anybody will buy a mule after this video. That thing is like a 90s sxs
I don’t think you know what a Mule is for. It’s for utility. The goal here is usable torque and reliability. Nothing else.
how did your rigs do towing a trailer load of firewood up a muddy hill while it was snowing?
People don't buy Mules for speed you idiot. Why do you think Kawasaki called it a Mule? It's for working, not racing. Nobody is going to be hauling a load of firewood through the woods at 50 mph or more!
Mule is trash i look at it before i got my pioneer 1000
The Mule has a way stronger frame and twice the warranty, neither the Pioneer or Mule are trash they both do different things better than each other.
Ah, no, they are not trash.
