    More good tips for Aliner mods! A word of caution; keep a close eye on the factory spare tire carrier. A few years ago a weld broke and the carrier punched a hole in the fiberglass outer shell. I always "pre-flight" the rig before hitting the road and the weld broke after about 6 hours on some rough Colorado backcountry roads. Fortunately the tire didn't come off the carrier. I upgraded the carrier by installing an after market one that fit's into the rear hitch receiver that came with the trailer. Much better.

    Great ideas! Suggestion: It is probably not a good idea to have loose things stored on top of your battery. If something were to accidentally short out the two terminals, you could put off a lot of current and create a lot of heat very fast. Maybe some kind of plywood or something over top of it with an air gap for circulation around it.

    Regarding the AWNING. We are now considering buying an Aliner. Too bad it doesn’t come with a good awning. We know the importance of this from using a reliable attached awning on our pop-up trailer for over 35 years camping in the mountains. Your idea seems the closest to what we can build that will be strong. How has your experience been in high wind and rain? You mentioned in a comment about doing another video on building it. Thank you for all your tips. From☀️💨💦Long Island, NY

      It's held up well in winds, but I do pull it down when high winds are expected, just like I would with any awning. I did do a follow-up video, here it is: ruclips.net/video/iHl_t5EniGw/видео.html

    Your gas springs under your bed are on backwards. The piston should always be mounted under the barrel, so that oil in the barrel lubricates the front seal. Dave

    • @Dean-In-Milwaukee
      @Dean-In-Milwaukee  Год назад

      You are correct of course. I missed that during installation. In my case however it may not matter much as as they spend nearly 100% of their time in the level position anyway.

    • @davemichaels485
      @davemichaels485 Год назад

      @@Dean-In-Milwaukee Nope. You should change them. When installed properly,with barrels above pistons, the oil inside the barrels lubricates the seals whenever the piston moves, provided that the gas spring is correctly installed. There's no place for compromise when the fix is so easy.

    Have you had any issues with the awning wobbling around? I really like that design without stakes, but seems like the rods are telescoped the entire length

    • @Dean-In-Milwaukee
      @Dean-In-Milwaukee  2 месяца назад

      There is still 2ft left engaged when the awnings out, and the rods are a decently tight fit inside each other. The rods are 7ft, but the awning is 5 ft. That being said, I take it down in windy conditions like I would any other awning.

    Dean I have done many mods to my Classic. I am unable to see past my unit towing with my Escape. Add-on mirrors help a little but not great. I use a permanently mounted backup camera on the rear as well. The issue I have found is they are all geared for backup and are quite wide in view. Makes seeing things back a ways very very small. I am using inexpensive cameras, but keep searching for units with a narrower, but longer view. So far, I haven’t found one.

    • @Dean-In-Milwaukee
      @Dean-In-Milwaukee  Год назад

      The one I'm using has an acceptable field of view, but unfortunately cannot keep its connection to my phone. It will just freeze and reset over and over to the point of being useless.

    • @perryheideman9007
      @perryheideman9007 Год назад

      Dean, I had the same issue with a wireless model. Finally went to a wired version. Maybe you can advise the camera you are using. I now see some on Amazon that claim to be 80-90 degree field of view. I might try one of those.

    • @Dean-In-Milwaukee
      @Dean-In-Milwaukee  Год назад

      We feel it's plenty of room and we like the layout. That being said I think the newer ones replacing the couch with the dinette would be even better. The couch doesn't have much headroom unless you have an aliner with dormers.

  • @JanakiBananaki

    What kind of ac is that? Was that a mod? I just bought an aliner and it doesn't have an ac and am looking for a way to add one. I want to remove the microwave that is built into a cabinet and maybe put a minisplit there. I can then remove the stock heater and put storage there.

    • @Dean-In-Milwaukee
      @Dean-In-Milwaukee  2 месяца назад +1

      It's the factory stock air conditioner on a 2014 ranger 10. I prefer it over a mini split for three reasons. It takes up less interior space as most of the mechanism is outside. It's much less expensive ( < $200 ). It's far easier to replace if there's a failure.

      2016 kia soul with manual shift. That being said it's not perfect, no 4 wheel drive and could certainly use more power. I have a rav4 hybrid on order that should get the same towing mileage but has nearly twice the power and 4 wheel drive.
