When my daughter got married, I advised her to rent a wedding dress. We went to the rental shop and they had beautiful dresses and exactly the vision she wanted. We paid $400 and she had the dress for a few days. That was 8 years ago.
Wow, I mean I guess that’s a cheaper way of doing it but tbh I’d rather just buy the dress outright and then get to keep it but I guess it’s different for everyone😎❤️
That’s an amazing idea. Bravo! I understand wanting to keep a dress, but putting the money on a house or a college fund for the children is a great idea too.
It is REALLY hard to get the prices of dresses from boutiques if you aren't there in person trying it on and designers often don't share that information on their websites.
I was married almost 40 years ago. I wanted a mermaid dress. My mom said no, too expensive. It's 2024 and I am still married to the greatest guy ever and a few years back donated the dress to goodwill!
The first dress put more focus on the bride and flatters her a lot as a whole. The other dress draws the eye towards the weird detail on the bust. It’s not worth busting the budget.
The first dress is timeless. And this is an old episode. The one she’s obsessed with looks really outdated from watching this now. She looks stunning in both, my opinion personally- don’t go way over budget, it’s not necessary.
I got married in the late 80s and I loved Princess Diana's dress. I went to the wedding shop and saw a gown that was on sale for 600 and it was so close to Diana's dress. I went home, got my mom and went back to try it on. It was a little large but alterations were free. It was an amazing beautiful dress. I bought it a year before we got married and they not only stored it for me, they took it from a size 12 to an 8. I loved wearing that dress.
I got married in '89 and got a silk Jessica McClintock dress with puff sleeves like Princess Di's. It was $350 and I couldn't make up my mind that day so I went back a couple of weeks later and it was on sale for half price! I paid $175 for my wedding dress (that would be worth about $450 today). I think these dresses are insane - but I never dreamed of a big wedding.
I got married in ‘88. I left it to the consultant to tell me which dress would look best on me. They were right. My dress was 900.00 plus alterations(I’m a shorty pants) and it was stunning. I paid 300.00 for the veil. I felt more beautiful then than in my whole life.
In the moment,it seems like it's the most important thing in the world to have THAT dress. I promise you,a year from now , it's about the marriage. She is beautiful.she found the perfect guy. The wedding day will be wonderful whatever she wears. The marriage is the reason for the wedding day. (If the other ladies want to gift her the $$ ,great. ) Btw Coming up on 45 years. He is my everything, and he still has a cute little hyney! Hope she is as blessed (fortunate) as US. ❤
A year later, all the materialistic things about the wedding day don't matter at all. We haven't even hung up our wedding photos after a year and a half, and we spent so much money on the photographer!
@@jathompson37 she won't be a fashion victim. Only people obsessed with fashion would think / say that. Do you think every grandmother is a fashion victim? You shouldn't look at people that way
@ I defy you to go through an album of brides from the 80’s and not find fashion victims. You don’t want to look at your photos down the line and cringe because of a very dated look. Something simpler and classic will age better over time. The most “fashion forward” a look is - the less likely it will age well. Most younger people won’t consider this because they haven’t have to live with fashion regrets yet. 😅
@ there’s nothing extreme in that dress that would make it pop out like the 80’s fashion did. And mind you, even 80’s trends have come back. It wa the fashion back then, that’s it. If someone gets overly obsessed with how cringy they looked in theor wedding dress thats just unhealthy. It was what it was… move on
No, her consultant did not "immediately" have her try on a $4,000 dress. They DID try to gently counsel her, yet the bride-to-be did not budge so on she went. She said to afford it she was going to cut her guest list. Choice of a dress over wedding guests. Sad priorities.
@@Chris-q9m I'm not referring to the $6,700 dress, which she wanted to try on and agreed to, but the first dress she tried on which was $4,000. Right after she had told the consultant her budget was $3,000.
I thought a $3,000 budget definitely didn’t match that engagement ring! That’s not one of the regular lame halo rings trying to look larger than it is; that center stone is respectable.
I don’t know why people are so mad that she went over her budget. it’s not their money/ budget. She is paying for the dress herself unlike many brides who have their parents/ fiancé pay for it. So it’s her money and her right to go over budget if she wants.
Kleinfeld requires a 65% deposit on ordering a gown according to their website so she would have been required to pay $4355 that very day plus sales tax. That would have been the wake up call that maybe she should stick to her budget.
Don't get why people are so upset that she went over budget, she's paying for it so she can do what she want's it her wedding. Personally I think both dresses were beautiful and she couldn't make a wrong decision.
Yes...yet she also was saying that to afford the dress she would be cutting her guest list. A dress taking priority over people valued enough to put on guest list...but later cut them off all so she could afford a dress that she'll only wear once. Tacky and rude.
I obsessed over a dress. I went to Kleinfelds to try it on. I couldn’t afford it at the time. I waited. When the new styles came out, my gown was discontinued. At that point, salons want to get rid of those gowns at discounted prices. One day, I found the dress on eBay, but it was still too high. No one bought the dress. The next week, it was back up for auction, but at a much lower price. I bid cautiously and won it. That $2700 designer dress was mine for $227.
If the most important thing about your wedding day, is you looking hot in a dress then really you shouldn’t be getting married, especially when you can’t stick to a likely agreed budget and can’t actually afford it. How does a person get obsessed about a dress before trying it on when you haven’t even looked up the price?
Lazaro or not, I would have opted for something similiar but within the budget. There are too many designers to pay $6700.00 for a dress you only wear one day!
The problem is a similar dress would still be different from her dream dress. The consultant can’t pull the exact same dress from the same designer for half the price. You heard the consultant. She had pulled three dresses that were similar to her dream dress and the bride still wanted to try on her dream dress. I don’t think people understand that “similar” doesn’t mean an exact replica.
Exactly. And her husband-to-be better keep close eye on her spending. She might be type who "hides" her overspending... all because she couldn't pass something up. It's an "accident" waiting to happen.
She can rework the budget, cut back on something else, or invite a few less people.i know the feeling of wanting a specific dress. I was obsessed with a Lazaro dress when I was getting married. When a dress get discontinued, you can pick up it up for a steal. That’s what I did.

Yes, you physically wear it once but you take pictures in that you will look at for the rest of your life. So it’s not really just one day. That being said, I personally wouldn’t spend that much money but who are you to judge her if that’s what she wants to do?
Loved the dress my mom bought me that i picked out. It was princess and at the top it had short sleeves and beautiful disigns and beading and some sparkle. It was perfect for me and was 600. Why spend like 5000 just for one day? No

As wife in the marriage, her soon-to-be husband better keep a close eye on their family budget in the years to come. Looks like his wife-to-be has high likelyhood to hide purchases, etc. It's an "accident" waiting to happen.
That is literally the same cost as the very nice used vehicle I’ve been driving around for the last 4 years. For a dress that will be worn for 12 hours. To each their own, but my goodness!!
Dress sites rarely show the price. My best friends son was getting married and his bride had a budget of $500. She fell in love with a dress on a site which my best friends son was showing me and said but we have to find the price. I looked at her and said $1100. She looked at me and I said picture it in champagne and she realized it was my daughter’s wedding dress and I knew what I paid for it
Thank goodness, all four of my daughters just wanted to get married in my living room, with a handful of 'beloveds' in attendance. A nice, off the rack, street dress, some home baked cakes, pots of coffee, and moderately priced champagne. As a result they were able to immediately put a nice down payment on a home.
