I guess these brides think that, for one day, they can look amazing - and rich. But they have to pay for it be aude it isn't free.
I don't think $3000 is a small budget for a wedding dress, especially back in 2009, when this episode was filmed. 15 years ago, that was a really good amount to shop with.
It always makes me sad when I see brides and their parents sutrggling to pay for something that will be worn once. It's a special day but not something to go into debt over.
I have watched several RUclips videos where brides bought vintage 1980's gowns at thrift stores for almost nothing. (their being so over done no one wanted them) and taking them and modernizing them, removing much of the foo-foo. they had quality materials but redid the gowns and made the gowns their dream gown. One bride actually bought 3 similar gowns and spent under $100 for the lace appliques the gowns had.
Randy raises a valid point. Bigger dresses require more fabric so cost more. Why isn't that logic applied to ALL clothes? X-small sizes should cost less that X-large.
Ok, seamstress here, who often sews for plus size figures. Yes, the materials cost more due to the widths needed, especially if there is a lot of flare. You can end up using twice the amount of fabric depending on where the seams lie, and the width of fabric you are using. Unfortunately there also ends up being a lot of wasted fabric. It would help a lot if designers and pattern makers would take these things into account, rather than just designing for the easy to fit sample sizes.
The problem is often it changes the whole design of the dress, and they have to take that into account. Regular dresses are designed for women shaped like an 8, with different variations on the proportions. Once someone becomes obese and has a lot of excess fat on the waist, then they become O shaped, and you need a new design, which takes time and hence money. Some designers won't do larger sizes because they have to change the dress. Reality is, if you're designing very expensive wedding dresses, most of your clientele are going to be young women of high socioeconomic status- the demographic least likely to be obese.
When I got married I went to David's bridal and spent a little over $300 and I thought that it was very pretty so you don't need to spend thousands of dollars on a dress that you wear once

Can't STAND Carmel!!
Same here
Первая невеста- третье платье
Any one will do.The cheaper the better. Its gettng married thats important not a white frock !!
Carmel has such a weird disposition. She seems so fake to me.
Charging more for plus size is size discrimination and fat shaming.
No it isn’t. There is more fabric, and more embellishments needed (lace, beading, etc) to cover that extra fabric.
@@SomewhereInTheMaidenverse Oh yes it is. If I go to a Macy’s and buy an XL in a size it’s the same price as a small.
@@donnadrane4977 Big difference between the fabric and embellishments needed for a size 20 wedding gown compared to a size 8 sample size gown. There isn’t significantly more fabric needed to make an XL top compared to a size small top.
@@donnadrane4977 You're gonna compare a custom fitted wedding gown with alterations to an off the rack dress from Macy's??! Well you must be an XL then sorry.
If Fat people can afford to eat more, then they can afford to pay for more fabric. Except the facts!
