Great video. I'm watching from rural Cambodia. This helps me understand more about the naturally growing orchids on our property and how to better care for the plants we've been buying.
Hi Josh, I started watching Natural Nel a few months ago. Thoroughly enjoyed your live chats. You're like an encyclopedia. Look forward to watching a lot more. ❤❤ 🇬🇧
I have been doing this for a long time, but I use old hedge ball wood and clamp the orchard to the piece of limb and put the limb in an orchard pot standing straight up and put small stones in the pot to hold the wood stable in the pot. That way I crate a look like the orchard is on a real tree. Then because I live in the north, I made a wooden box with plexiglass and a door to open to water the flower. I also have put the pot on a turn table swivel, on wood so that I can water the flower all the way around. The wooden box works like a hot house in the winter, and I use a spray bottle with fertilizer just like you. Thanks. Now all my family members want one. LOL Love your video keep it up. Thanks
Lovely Orchids.... I attached most of my Orchids to the Tropical Fruits Trees in my Yard....i love it. Thank you for sharing your great work....The Orchid Den.
I love this video thank you, hanging several orchids in Kodama style and also trying this mounting technique, so beautiful to see these plants hanging.
Just watched your video. I am new to the orchid world, less than a year, and I have really found a niche of interest with mounted orchids. I have watched a lot of videos to learn about orchids and yet never had the opportunity to watch a mounted video like yours. I learned a lot. I do live in Maine so our climates are quite different but I am learning how to make this work in my home. Thank you for the teaching!
Loved the video learned a lot super excited to start mounting mine. Thank you. Fyi I want to know everything about orchids lol. So many kinds so much info. Fairly new to orchids killed a few saved a few 🤔.
Hi Joshua! I met you on Saturday at the OFE show. It was pouring so didn't have much time to see your stuff but thanks to Nelson (Nature Nel) I found your IG, You Tube and Website. I collect plants and orchids. Looking forward to seeing you at other shows. I will purchase directly from your website. Nice meeting you! Another Orchid buddy!
Yes!! So happy to meet you. You can order directly from my website (TheOrchidDen.com) and I’ll ship to you. You can send me a message if you have any questions. Thank you for your support!🤗
I have just watched this video from 6 months ago. It was so informative. I am a novice at this, so need all the tuition I can get. I enjoyed it so much that I subscribed. Thanks.
I just mounted a few dendros and one rhynchostylis on fern slab, thinking i needed to rescue them as they've been sitting on wet medium (bark, leca balls and charcoal). I hope they flourish there. They actually look prettier, though they need to be tended quite meticulously this time. Thank you for your informative vids.
Great video! I've been leaning more toward mounted orchids, I grow in a tent and have set up an automatic fogging system. Btw I think you mean brassavola not brassia for the little stars hybrid. That one blooms so reliably for me I love it
This is perfect content. I plan to build a tripical shower in my master bthroom and use the existing orchids that are on my mango tree to mount on the shower walls. also back yard outdoor tropical shower. I liked, subscribed and shared.
Hi Joshua. I enjoyed your mounting orchid tutorial. I’ve seen your pottery items on other RUclipsr content and I’m loving the designs. Can you demonstrate how you mount and display orchids on the pottery plates and other various pottery items. Loving you from the Florida Panhandle.
Thank you Orchid Den, I had no clue how to do it🙈😄but now I will try. Cheers🦘🦘🦘❤…I forgot to say, you are such a sweet person, thank you🤗for sharing your passion with us!
Hey Joshua! Loved this idea. This video popped on my thread and Im glad it did. That peckey cypress wood idea is awesome. I’m heading to Lowe’s and Home Depot very soon😉. Thanks for the easy and quick tutorial. 💚
This is a very detailed video. Thank you for sharing. Need to find the right kind of wood. I've got some keikis and they are very small. Probably will take 2 years to get to the blooming size... that's a pretty long time
This is great! Thank you! I am new to orchids. I have seen people put moss under them first, but yours seems to do great without. I live in zone 7b NC. I don't know if I can get that type of wood here, what other types could I use? Would cedar be ok?
Always, love the natural look of organic mounts. Personally, I have switched to trying to grow wverything as inorganic as,possible. Natural looks best though 😍
this was very helpful. I've been looking for videos regarding how to mount orchids. Can you suggest a method (or link to another one of your videos) regarding how to mount with some moss/bark in a ball? I am looking for a method that would require less water.
Well I didn't really mount it but its in a wooden container with bark and moss Now to figure out where the best light is in my home. Ok light meter Dont let me down !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The plant will eventually grow upwards. I want to get as many years on the mount as possibly. If you mount in the middle of the wood, you get less time before you have to cut up and start over.
Drift wood I’d good too right? As long as it has the groves. Thank you for sharing. I’ve been rescuing the discounted orchids at lowes lol they are half off or better sometimes after the blooms are gone.
You can use driftwood as long as it’s not from salt water or brackish water. Also make sure to leech the contaminants out of it. I personally don’t use it because it rots faster also.
Hi and Happy New Year from Clearwater Florida. I’m ready to mount some vandas and have been looking at RUclips for tips and advice. Your video has been the most educational so far. Your background looks like you’re in a jungle. It’s really beautiful. Thanks again for taking the time to make this video and help us orchid lovers. 😊💜😊
Great thanks! we don't have this kind of wood here in Australia and I'm about to use a piece of old wood that has many groves for the roots to attach. I'm thinking of using bark from the Paperbark tree as a root medium and see how this works :-)
sorry to be off topic but does anyone know a trick to log back into an Instagram account? I was dumb lost the login password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me
@Ryder Ahmir i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@@TheOrchidDen Thank you. I use cal- mag , epsom salt and 15-35-15. I am new growing orchids so I have lots of questions , I read that seaweed was good too. Have a wonderful day. Rita C.
Ok so question! I did attached mine to some kind of a latter, it's been 3 days and leaves start to look dried even though I water them everyday, will that get better or did I ruin my Orchids? 🙈
I've had my orchids in an east facing sunroom in FL. Just added a lanai off this room. What is the best way to transition my orchids outside to lanai? It's January so nights are cooler. Thanks in advance.
Tracey Auclair yes! The type of wood matters very much. You want a very hard wood. If you use wood like pine or oak it will rot quickly and you can possibly lose the plant. I use cypress but you can also use cedar as well.
I had an Orchid years ago … And now that I’m back home I’d like to buy me a couple of orchids and mount them on some beautiful drift wood someone gifted me . I was surprised you didn’t add Sphagnum moss , Im going to try it your way and see . Im interested in what you use in your spray bottle everyday? And btw I did subscribe.
I mounted three baby vandas on a piece of driftwood yesterday, they are small baby size and I am worrying when I water them the leaves also get wet does it matter if they are wet if they are in the air? I worry about fungus, I can't avoid spraying the leaves though the roots are so small close to the plant I can't water them without spraying the whole plant.
It’s okay to get the leaves wet as long as they dry out by end of day. Also remember to be using a systemic fungicide (along with insecticide) monthly to help prevent issues.
As long as it will not over power the mount, you definitely can. I always tell people to think how large the plant will be when it’s mature. Match the size of the mount to the future size of the plant.
I am a new sub. This is the first of your video's that I have watched. Loved it. Thank you very much. I have a question about the wood. Does it comevprecut like that. Very interesting mount.
Yes looks lovely but you are hanging them in a greenhouse I assume? I’m from Melbourne my orchids are outside undercover- does this method work for that environment?
It’ll work the same. They still get watered daily or multiple times daily in my greenhouse. Main thing is to make sure they do t get too cold where you are.
Great video. I'm watching from rural Cambodia. This helps me understand more about the naturally growing orchids on our property and how to better care for the plants we've been buying.

Simple, nice and natural. Great tip🌸

I use cedar planks but was wrapping my wire around the plank. I like your idea of drilling holes much better. Good video.
Either way is fine. I think drilling the holes and using wire or zip ties is a little more stable though.
Best video on mounting I've seen! TY!!!

Cedar works also. Basically any hard wood. Don’t use anything like pine or oak.

this was very helpful. I've been looking for videos regarding how to mount orchids. Can you suggest a method (or link to another one of your videos) regarding how to mount with some moss/bark in a ball? I am looking for a method that would require less water.
Thanks for sharing! I am going to try and hang my cattleya with a board!
Love it. just want to ask if is Cymbidium possible to grow this method?
Cymbidiums are more terrestrial so I would say not to mount them.
Great video.have learnt a lot
I'm gonna get an orchid today and mount it as you said. Here in Port st lucie Florida
Well I didn't really mount it but its in a wooden container with bark and moss
Now to figure out where the best light is in my home. Ok light meter Dont let me down !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello I am from Barbados and an orchid grower. I enjoyed your demo. Is there a reason why you did not mount the plant on the centre of the wood.
The plant will eventually grow upwards. I want to get as many years on the mount as possibly. If you mount in the middle of the wood, you get less time before you have to cut up and start over.

What kind of fertilizer you suggest to spray orchids daily? Is it ready to use fertilizer or a mix of different things? Thank you
I don’t recommend fertilizing daily. I use 15-5-15 plus cal/mag once a week. 1 tsp/gal.

Hi good morning I purchased a piece of Birchwood is that something suitable for an orchid to be mounted on thanks for your help I enjoy your video
Ok so question! I did attached mine to some kind of a latter, it's been 3 days and leaves start to look dried even though I water them everyday, will that get better or did I ruin my Orchids? 🙈
It will take off over time. Orchids teach us patience.
After the orchid is mounted, should it be put in shadow or direct orchid indirect sun?
I put them in a proper place with light (depending on culture), and also where I can get it watered daily. Set it and forget it.
I've had my orchids in an east facing sunroom in FL. Just added a lanai off this room. What is the best way to transition my orchids outside to lanai? It's January so nights are cooler. Thanks in advance.

I just received a young orchid about two years away from bloom. Can I mount this it or is it too young?
As long as it will not over power the mount, you definitely can. I always tell people to think how large the plant will be when it’s mature. Match the size of the mount to the future size of the plant.
Very cool
I am a new sub. This is the first of your video's that I have watched. Loved it. Thank you very much. I have a question about the wood. Does it comevprecut like that. Very interesting mount.
I cut them myself. The holes in the pecky cypress are naturally made by a fungus in the tree.
Very Helpful thanks!
Thanks for this video! Good informations . See from Reunion Island
Thank you!!
Are mounted orchids different from potted orchids in their need for water?
Absolutely!! Media retains water and moisture whereas mounted orchids need daily watering.
