People hated the Batman thing because it's Meta-exclusive VR. Not everyone wants to play VR anyway, but very few want to do it exclusively on Facebook's tech
To answer the question of VR, the hesitance and hate for VR stems from 3 things, 1) The price of VR headsets, specifically the playstation vr, 2) disorientated and motion sickness, and 3) nobody has apartments with enough space to play VR games.
Most VR games can be comfortably played so long as you have enough space to swing your arms in a standing position, even if they claim they require more. Motion sickness is definitely a big issue; and that isn't going to get fixed until we have really solid VR treadmills and full body tracking. For those of us who don't get motion sick from it, I'd say the main issue is the lack of compelling experiences. I still think the best VR games so far came out half a decade ago or more.
The people making VR equipment are really not thinking about the experience. I hate to say this but I think Apple absolutely nailed it. When I put on my headset, everything goes dark for like 30 seconds while things "wake up". And then if I want to see where things are in my room, I have to take off the headset. The buttons to turn on the camera (or flashlight) is freaking impossible to remember. And then the camera itself is freaking pathetic. I can't even read the text on my phone. It's been what two years since my headset came out and the experience is basically the exact same. It sucks. And the people working on this have zero idea what the hell they are doing. Thankfully, the games themselves are sometimes really good. But getting there, getting into the games SUCKS.
I'd also posit that we've all at this point realized that not only are only a few games actually improved by VR, but VR just kinda ruins the experience for many things we'd otherwise enjoy, and yet, like every other "revolutionary technology advancement", developers and publishers are gonna try to smash all sorts of square pegs into the round hole of the next new cash cow, and it sucks every time. Accelerometers made party multiplayer games chaotic and fun, but nobody needed to flap their arms with motion controls to be TinkerBell. Having a photo as a character tile in the menu was kinda cool, but nobody needed badly cropped photos of their face smeared across a model like a bad mask to play basketball. Dance pads were great for dancing, but remapping a menu driven RPG onto one is a fundamentally poorer experience. And VR makes for amazing immersive "walk the tightrope" games and quick swing/slash/pose rhythm games, but there is absolutely _nothing_ gained by having to physically swing my arms to punch a Minecraft tree. Or do whatever bull crap they've tried to squeeze into Batman.
If you want an example of how meta has no idea to design for VR: they use the cell phone keyboard (where you have to press a modifier for numbers etc)....instead of just using a full size keyboard. It's just a mobile device to them
a note on the Blumhouse Games: they're launching a publishing studio, where they're essentially helping with the marketing and distribution of games made by indie devs and studios (which i think is really cool) hence why they have so many games ready to announce as they reached out to projects they found interesting. AAA games are also set up this way where one company will develop the game and another company will publish it (or different divisions in the same company if you're big enough), but to have a publishing studio for indie devs get this much publicity is great for the games industry as a whole since there have been literally tens of thousands of people laid off from studio closures this year. also side note you are so brave putting that parade ad in the summer game fest video, hoping that those gamers don't find this video for everyone's sanity lmao
I have to respect a man who appreciates The Bag. Blumhouse looked at FNAF, looked at Scott Cawthon and looked at their box office and was like "Hey, we can try to make MORE of that!" and honestly I have to respect the man. Get those IPs, turn them into movies, LFG.
Yeah, gaming events are usually pretty bad. The Game Awards is always a big joke and Summer Games Fest was the biggest nothing burger. After E3 died every game company wanted to make their own niche Nintendo Direct style presentation, not unlike Streaming Services splitting audiences. It usually leads to already announced projects being shown again. But the worst part is the trailers were all so focused on looking cinematic that they barely showed gameplay for most of the games. I loved the Among Us sponsored Indie section because that's a good thing of them to do AND THE GAMES SHOWED ACTUAL GAMEPLAY.
The big 2 (minus Nintento since they already are doing their own thing. I have to edit this in) were actually moving away from E3 and setting up their own events during the last few years of E3.
I'm really happy somebody else is mentioning my internal dialogue on my hesitancy to pick up a new game. The cinematic trailer may look awesome, but game trailers hint at the story of the game rather than actually playing the game. It's as if game devs forgot they were making interactive media rather than a trailer to a feature length film
@@joeyhoy1995 e3 was elitist so normal people couldnt go anymore hence it died summer game fest will die next for the same reason. i think nintendo direct style things are the best way to go about it announce all your games at once or in batches throughout the year, also doing what sony did that gave us almost no new games and a bunch of updates for crap we dont care for or fucking vr titles
The landscape just changed. Back when E3 was big it was the main way for publishers to reach gaming journalist and spread the word about their projects. Nowadays everyone can just publish trailers on RUclips and social media.
@@Soraking007 that's the strangest take on e3 I've seen. It was a bit costly, but virtually all conventions are. Most people just don't want to leave the house anymore. That's why theaters are dying too. 😞 It's too bad too. I love the environment and the energy people bring to these types of places. Sitting and watching a state of play stream is kind of boring with out the hoards of excited fans. I have a love hate relationship with the future we've built.
i know this is about the ad and not the video but we have a very similar body type and seeing you show it off like that made me feel really good about myself cause you looked really good
Companies should start hiring Swell as a consultant for events. At this point she has to be one of the single most knowledgeable resources for this kind of stuff.
The problem isn't a lack of capable people, a lot of things she mentions are obvious and were probably brought up in meetings, it's a lack of love and care from the people putting on the event that makes it lame and boring. The maximise profits and "why bother" mentality are what's bad, not a lack of talented organisers in these teams.
Summer Game Fest can be fun to watch at home since it’s just a weekend of various presentations and showcases, but I feel like it’s not really worth going to in person unless you’re someone in the industry who can get hands-on access to game demos
yep, you are correct on the game demos. This is mainly an invite for press and media people to play demos, not so much open for the public. Idk why they opened this to the public
The problem with VR is you r body fights it, almost all people have to build up a tolerance for it. 70% is my guess of people have a hard time doing this (meaning it takes weeks or months to do, but then they are generally fine for hours of play), and there is a small percentage that just cannot play VR and never will as their body will just not let them from extreme sickness during it or vertigo. So until VR somehow tricks the body better, this VR sickness thing is rough for a lot.
For a non-gamer you really nailed this. I’ll never understand an event that’s just announcements. Maybe it’s just because I don’t have any of that fabled “brand loyalty” but it seems insane to me to go through all that hassle just to hear a guy tell you a company is making something. My interest needs to be earned by the thing itself when it exists, I am immune to hype.
Video game events are arguably stronger than ever (See PAX, Gamescom, Dreamhack, Magfest, EVO, AGDQ, etc). Its only these weird theater shows that are struggling because their entire existence serves to push out commercials all at once to streaming services. Entertaining the folks that bought in-person tickets is a distant afterthought. Imagine your Blizzcon experience if it only hosted the keynote theater and had no exhibit halls or community networking spaces.
"the event could be horrific, but I will make sure that I have a good time" would love to see Swell time travel and give a review about the Titanic's safety plans
It is interesting to see a non-gamer perspective. As a gamer, this was more welcome than I even expected it to be; mostly, because E3 is gone, so it is my only way of finding out about upcoming games (unless the RUclips ad algorithm ever wants to send me one accurately targeted ad). I can see it being somewhat lackluster for a gamer, but we knew ahead of time that there were not going to be very many new reveals this year, so going in with those expectations. I thought it was fine. Hoping for more reveals next year.
I think it's NUTS the person who constantly makes videos about false advertising events being bad for communities to change that belief for this event? Does she really think they should lie, so the events are more hyped, even though they wouldn't be able to meet that hype? She really doesn't understand gamers or how much we appreciate the HONESTY of Geoff Keighley. If they had misrepresented what the game event was going to be, that would have been so out of character for Keighey and most of us understood. He is TRYING to make a new E3 which with this year and each company opting for their own showcases, it was never going to be a world premiere stunner. Heck, the individual showcases aren't world premiere stunners because, well, not a lot of games were announced after all the studio closings this year. I don't get what Swell here expects? Lie for her entertainment, but destroy what little trust gamers have??? OR Just understand the event isn't about HER having fun, it's about giving Gamers information on games they have been following or to announce new games. I'm sure it will be better next year. As it stands, outside the summer games fest, the company most people were shitting on the most this year actually had one of the BEST personal showcases, and that was XBox. The best part about the Xbox showcase is knowing... You can play all those amazing games coming for $10 a month instead of paying $70 or more PER GAME. The in person portion of these events aren't what is important. I just don't get how someone who complains about everyone else never being honest is like, How Dare he Be Honest about his Event. As if lying would have somehow made it more fun???? That is a brain-dead take from someone, who I KNOW has a brain.
@@darktheories1758 1) no gamer i know appreciates geoff keighley, that is a wild thing to say especially bc we all KNOW how these events work, that theyre just glorified ads and not soem public service for our aid, and that the industry has been going downhill for years bc studios are going to shit. i have no idea what kool aid youre sippin on but keep it far from me lmao. 2) at no point did she say lie so that ppl would have more fun? she said that saying "there wont be any major announcements" ahead of an event is bad for attendance for the event. you're fightign a point you misunderstood 3) "the in preson potion of these events arent what is important" thats what shes there to review. you obviously arent new here so i dont knwo how you're missing that. 4) she is an outsider to gaming and admits as much multiple times int he video. the whole point of most fo these videos is that shes reviewing the experience of the event as an outsider. she isnt goign into this with a ton of knowledge on gamign events and culture. she isnt going to understnad how these things usually work and thats literally fine.
One of the biggest issues with shows like this is simply the turnaround timelines on modern games. It takes 4-6 years for modern AAA games to get made, and so there’s a hefty chunk of time where there’s simply nothing worth showing. In particular now, because 2022 and 2023 were very much heavy hitter years for big titles, so all of the studios that released stuff then have at this point almost nothing to show. They’re probably either still in pre-production or have just moved into production on their new projects, and unless you want to pull a Bethesda or a CDPR and announce your new game when it’s still half a decade or more out, you’re not bringing anything to the showcase. Another issue is that after E3 went under during Covid, all the major platforms and studios just started holding their own direct-to-consumer showcases, and that’s eaten quite a lot of Geoff’s lunch. When E3 was at its height, it was pretty much the only game in town - at the very least, it was the largest by a significant margin. If you wanted eyes on your game, you put it on stage at E3. With how online and easily accessible modern audiences now are, that’s simply no longer as necessary, especially if you’ve already got a large reach with a pre-existing audience like Sony or Xbox or Nintendo have.
Yeah, not to mention game exclusivity lol. So the 400$ accessory you own might not be able to play the game, and you either have to drop another 400$ or go without playing that game anyways...
Part of the issue we're facing is that games take longer to make now, like even 10 years ago all of the biggest game series were releasing a game every 1-3 years, which meant every year there was a bunch of games to announce, now a fast turnaround for a major games series is like 4 years and for many series it can go way longer than that. This is then compounded by the fact microsoft has bought much of the industry and so all of those games go in one show, and a lot of studios that used to make good games have been forced to make a bad game that is designed to make money and then they were shut down when it failed. All of this is to say the ultimate issue is that there simply are no games coming out, the industry is cooked and the best we can hope for most of the time is a small independant studio releases a delightful passion project that was made despite how financial incentives in the industry work
Mmm no that's not the case, games in the past also took a long time to be created and to be released. That's not a "new" phenomenon. What's new now is that it's not ok for games to take so long to be created, and that because everything is so much more expensive (a'la living wages and just inflation as a whole) it's more expensive to make games that take a long time to come out. Game publishers like Microsoft want huge hits like BG3 and then do not want to wait 3+ years for a new BG to be created, so they axe dev teams and axe funding and demand everything releases sooner and sooner so the end result is shitty games full of bugs made by over worked and under paid developers.
the best way to consume this event was with the commentary of dougdoug and his friend streaming until someone died in a trailer and inventing increasingly silly reasons why something didn’t count
VR is fragmented, hugely expensive, very few game experiences come even close to justifying the cost, and a fairly significant percentage of users will end up very sick using it at all. (A problem theyve never and may never be able to fix. It may simply be impossible to show movement without feeling movement and not make a significant number of people ill.) Got a lot of money to burn, get the top VR games, and are lucky enough to have a brain that doesnt freak out, then VR is great, but thats a lot of hoops to jump through and the majority just get annoyed at a lot of time and money being put in to games for that niche audience. I think AR has more potential, is more flexible, but so far every company trying it has insisted on making it super creepy. (With the possible exception of Microsoft of all people, likely because of its limited releases and a business focus.)
The only really good thing about SGF this year was that Geoff actually addressed the games industry layoffs which people have been pushing him to do for a WHILE now.
@@NotGeno I wouldn't give props if it was only during the intro, but having both Outersloth and Blumhouse up there talking about funding indies was a show of keeping up that support, in my eyes
Over the next decade we are going to witness the reinvention of E3 E3 died because the big companies forgot that having a centralized event that's only open to press was actually really good for the industry as a whole. They got too caught up in trying to one-up each other, and so they started abandoning E3 thinking it would give them an "edge" over the suckers still doing E3.
ESA killed E3. Booths were running up to millions and not every publishers/developers have deep pockets like Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony or any of the other other major publishers. Then a large number of exhibitors contact information were leaked which further lead to loss of trust with the people running the expo. The people running ESA during the last few years didn't had the same expertise running a big show as those that had experience have all departed at that point. They outsourced it to ReedPop and somewhere during the negotiations with publishers, communication broke down. ESA besically fumbled every step of the way. The whole pandemic just sped up the process and further exposed how out of touch ESA really was.
I did IGN Live and let's just say my feedback form came with the comment "it felt like this was put together with no love or care." It was run competently, but thats about the best thing I could say. There was just no there *there*
Girl.... Love the sponsorship - and you being totally into modeling - completely in your skivvies... I'm so impressed. Even when i was young and "hot" i wouldnt have had the the guts to put myself out there like that. And i know we're not supposed to comment on other people's bodies, but...(And this is coming from a completely straight girl.)- You're beautiful! Rock those pasta prints!
It seems only worth going if you are press, but really they should have demos, demo showcases, talk to developers, cosplay events, and talks much like a PAX or EGX. Thanks for reporting on it!
The era of big game news events is over. Back in the day all the major gaming news would be revealed at e3 once per year. It was a big deal whenever it came around. It was the main way publishers would announce new releases and trailers. But as the Internet has developed most publishers will release things throughout the year at their own pace, so annual gaming events have lost their importance.
I'm convinced Nintendo felt this video coming and had to make a good direct today (and did. Like most people just expected small very minor updates and they paced it really well that all the big announcements were well spaced out from the minor updates)
My opinion, and I was saying this during the first round of post-covid conventions, and funny enough it ties into my issues with streaming services, is every studio/game company etc wants their own thing and it's at the cost of a larger community and oversaturates the market. Why make major announcements at Summer Games Fest when you can save it for views of State of Play or Nintendo Direct? Why make big announcements at SDCC when you can just save it for D23, Star Wars Celebration, WB Expo, etc and make a killing in ticket sales? But this also feeds into why we have such a push for every company pumping more and more crap into the industry without focusing on the quality of the products.
man i miss E3, it died when it was open to the public hOWEVER! i *think* if youre still in LA in the fall there is an indie game festival called IndieCade
WhatCulture talked about the mitigating expectations. This was basically a kind of pendulum swing from other years for Geoff Keighly. I think SGF is always a damned if you do/don't thing. Everyone expects huge premiers, but if studios don't want to pay the marketing to be there, it doesn't really matter. Geoff can't say that, but trying to lower the temperature of the room is always hard with gamers.
Its not that big studios don't want to be there, honestly in terms of pricing the ad space at these shows isn't massivley inflated, if you are a big studio with a name people recognise a show like summer games fest is honestly a lot of bang for your buck. The real issue is that there are no games to show, when you remove the first party studios owned by console manufacturers, which, thanks to microsoft is huge part of the industry, there are very few third party studios that could even appear at a show like summer games fest, and they all release one game every 5-8 years, which means when you are trying to run an annual show you are left with very little to work with. Summer games fest is only a reflection of the industry
I didn’t realize actual players watched the game events lol I always felt like they were like a conference mostly for devs, news outlets, and streamers
I had the same thought, except I figure she might just be feeling herself lately. Whatever the reason, I was pleasantly surprised to not see the Spiderman costume.
@@ItsMzPhoenix one thing we can say for sure about Amanda is she won't be bullied by a brand. If she didn't want to do it she wouldn't. I respect the hustle (and confidence)
These events always seemed like you were paying to watch ads in a theater, for games coming out 2 years later, which I don't get the point of. If there were booths set up for playing the game demo's at least I'd understand people wanting to go.
It's nice to know there were a couple of highlights, because being the rose amongst weeds is how you get noticed. I still haven't played the new Alan Wake but nice to know there will be plenty there for me when I get to it
I almost went to this because I live in LA and saw the $41 tickets the day before. I'm so glad I stuck with the livestream. Nothing had me excited, and that venue experience sounds terrible. I also thought it would be longer. Thanks for sharing!
The way I watch these game events now is mute the stream till something cool. Then mute again. Rinse and repeat Also $40+ to just watch the show in person then get kicked out right afterwards is absurd. They should have thought to make demo booths to try the games that were revealed.
11:22 VR can be fun, but many games end up being gimmicky and some are badly implemented. Kind of like that 3D movie hype after the first Avatar released, where every movie had to have a token "something reaches out towards the camera" shot. Also (at least when I was actively looking for which to get) the situation of choosing a headset was kinda weird, some are bound to their own plattforms, some arent, and only soma are compatible with steam (which is why I have a PS4 VR now that I ended up rarely using) - all of them being expensive
To be fair, it's not video game events in general it is specifically Geoff's events. He's a complete nightmare and does not care about the industry at all. His parents are (were?) IMAX execs and he wasn't allowed to host the Oscars so he set up the game awards. And then with the death of E3 he slipped in with his money and made the summer games fest. Also for VR it can be hit or miss, it wasn't really until facebook started getting exclusives though when people started to really hate VR and it's massively hurting the platform. I love VR, there's so much opportunity with the platform and you can create so many unique experiences with it. It's just *fucking facebook*. By the way! Highly recommend looking up how expensive the slots are for the summer games show - and the game awards. It was released recently and it's absolutely insane.
RUclips really is a small world! It’s awesome to hear that you are friends with Scootish! I don’t know him personally but I’ve seen him around in beatemups and nontendo circles
When most AAA and AA1/2 studios pulled out of these events, the event creators had never bothered to establish their own form of content and so the void just never got replaced with anything. Same thing happened at pax. Riot stopped holding champs there, Nintendo/Sony/MS each started their own press release events, and now there's just far less to do. There are still panels and such but that's not what you're supposed to be paying $100 for.
As a gamer, I just watched all of the VODs from SGF weekend at home on my own time. There were so many great showcases between the 7th and the 10th including Day of the Devs, the Future of Play, Wholesome Direct, the Latin American Games Showcase, Women-Led Games, the Future Games Show, and the PC Gaming Show, and I ended up wishlisting over 50 games on Steam when all was said and done. For me, I always enjoy seeing ads for indie games that aren't on my radar yet, hearing behind the scenes interviews with devs, learning about new indie-uplifting publishing avenues like Blumhouse and Outersloth, and getting fresh updates on games that had been previously announced, so a presentation that is mostly trailers still feels like a something-burger; however, I don't think I'd *ever* pay $41 to see just 2 hours out of a 4-day event in-person.
I didnt watch summer games fest but a game ive been geeping an eye on, grave seasons, finally showed off a bit of gameplay and 2 new characters and i only learned this days after while scrolling thru twitter and seeing the devs tweeting abt it
I think the reason the event was lacklustre would have been because publishers will often have their own event or jump on board with the Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo direct events. No need to go to summer games fast when you can go to something you’re already under the umbrella for. There is probably also something to do with contracts and such
for what is worth there are multiple conferences like guerrilla collective of wholesome games that happen around the summer games fest and most of them were fully online bc they understood what they were doing better
Yup, nothing wrong with a bit of touching up if something bugs you about your appearance. I always wanted to get my nose done but not enough to actually go through the whole surgery thing lol
My brothers wedding was happening the weekend that my brother was getting married so I spending time with a lot of my family and I was unable to watch most of the show but the half an hour or so that I did watch had me going this is this really what summer games fest is like this year.
I personally don't like how bulky most headsets are and how no matter how secure the straps are the thing feels like it's going to fall off my face it's so heavy
Yknow what I like about "hey, this game? OUT NOW. TOMORROW. A WEEK." type things? Nintendo Direct does this with their indie-type titles and their smaller games w/ links to big franchises. Something like Pokemon Snap is coming tomorrow! Hey, this indie title? IT'S READY. IT'S OUT. GO. RUN. It's amazing and it's so fun as someone who anticipates some of these games, I love cute indie titles.
Your criticism of the middle bit with Jeff is fair that it’s disjoined, but tbf with the intro video skate 2 (& maybe 1?) had an evil corporation angle with “Mondo Corp” security guards trying to stop you from skating in certain areas & things like that so it’s not entirely out of left field for the series or skating culture in general
An upcoming convention: The Great Lace "“The Great Lace” is a weekend-long extravaganza in Chicago devoted to EGL (elegant gothic lolita) and J-fashion. Join us for a weekend of full of attractions like a vendors room, fashion show, expertly catered tea party, workshops and so much more. March 29-30, 2025. Not sure it is really related to your interests at all and there is a required dress code to attend. This is Great Lace's first ever event. The EGL community has lost a few of it's conventions with Rufflecon shutting down for a variety of reasons around 2018 and with the subcultures potentially not being as popular as they once were. It will be very interesting to see how this goes. A lot of the community is excited, supportive, and hoping for the best.
I started watching this because I thought it was about pointless in-game events where you have to interact but your chkices are meaningless (press F to pay respects) but I'm glad I watched
I feel like the showcase focused more on indie games made by smaller companies. Its good that he tried to expose us to games that arent made by big studios. However, when the games are made by independent developers that are just starting out, its harder to get excited for them since they have no resume to back themselves. Whereas a bigger company has the fanbase and existing IPs to garner support and excitement. So its harder to please people when there aren't that many "big" announcements to be made.
Unfortunately the mass layoffs in the gaming industry are what's making events like this seem lackluster (at least presentation-wise, not so much event-wise), I think we're up to 20,000 devs laid off this year and a bunch of studios closed, pretty much every major company was hit
Don't know what health challenges you're facing, but wishing you well!! If it's something treatable, I wish you a smooth recovery!! And if it's something terminal, i hope you can cherish every moment you have and that you know the immensely and quality of your impact on the world!! I love your content and your voice on RUclips, but pls don't overwork yourself!! Much love, take care!!
Damn, if I got sponsored by underwear I would NOT have been brave enough to model it myself. Then again you're much better looking than me. I feel like live shows are kinda silly at this point. The weird attempts at creating "moments" are just painful and the announcements could be done better as interviews or documentary type things. If you wanna have a show with hosts and crap I much prefer what PC Gamer did with the PC Gaming Show. Get a bunch of charismatic experienced professionals to tell horrible jokes while never making a single reference to the fact that one of them is the daughter of a beloved Star Trek actor who played the daughter of said Star Trek actor's beloved Star Trek character along side him just last year.
Sooooo… I travel to small towns for work. And there are always things to do. When I tell people about them they are always surprised…. There are no lane places. Just lame people. I can have fun anywhere.
I had fun watching all the side showcases they streamed like Day of the Dev and Latin American Showcase. The actual SGF was pretty boring to watch, even from home.
The only game I'm excited about it's "Project C". It's one of the Blumehouse games and the only reason I'm interested is the fact it's a Sam Barlow and Brandon Cronenberg collab.
Well, that's what most gaming events are now. This is why most game events switched to an online format cause most people care about the game showcase and that alone which can easily be streamed. E3 was THE gaming event and it died exactly because of this reason. You don't really care about a game trailer when the company has already announced it two months ago at their own online event.
Can you explain to me why I watch all these videos not knowing a single thing about gaming or these events. Thanks for keeping me informed at whats happening in the world!
Hi Amanda, do you take requests for video or topics to analyze about? I would like if you can discuss the fragile state that is the SCREAM franchise. I don't know if you're aware of what's happening in the world and your stance is on it. I'm all for the liberation of the Palestinian people, I wish for no more bombings for any group of people and I want nothing more for the occupation to end and have those responsible for their crimes against humanity to have their day in court. If you're aware, the star of the most recent SCREAM films, melissa barrera was fired or dropped by spyglass media group for speaking out what she believe was a genocide being committed by the occupation. She was then falsely labeled as antisemitic by the same studio that dropped her. Since then she has gotten both support and criticism from those who support the occupation. Some scream fans have called for solidarity to supoort melissa and watch any of her works in her career and to boycott Scream 7. Some have expressed nothing crocodile tears for melissa as they will still voice their support for scream 7 and all things spyglass media group. SOME scream 7 supporters have resorted to posting sexist and racist things about melissa which they veiled it as criticism not hate. Like huh? And alot of this divisiveness comes from a drifter with a podcast name Ryan C. Showers and his weird followers and mutuals. In around December, it was reported that she had a meeting with the heads at Spyglass who would give her job back for scream 7 if she take back what she said about the occupation and melissa said no. Honestly good for her. Cut to early of 2024, neve campbell announced on IG that she will return for the 7th installment. The response has been mixed, some fans calling out neve for being greedy and fake for not sticking up for melissa especially when melissa stick up for her when neve left scream 6 over a salary dispute. Some of the fans have being playing this weird game of "Gotcha!" when comparing to what both of these two women have been through when at the end of the day, two stars of the franchise were mistreated by the studio for A.) Being cheap and B.) Stunch supporter of the occupation. The SCREAM fandom is such a hot mess, it is completely divided. I personally never seen this type of divisiveness since The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. SO MUCH incitement, hate, bullying or harassment within the fandom. Some of it is coming from big scream accounts or personalities that have such influence on other people. I have seen fans starting shjt with other fans, calling each other names and other derogatory things. It's all so ridiculous, what they should be doing is unite and call out Spyglass Media Group and the head of the studio, Gary Barber who's a staunch supporter of the occupation. He even signed his name on a letter that denounced Jewish filmmaker Jonathan Glazer's Oscar speech for being antisemitic, which isn't true. It's not antisemitic to say "hey! Genocide is bad. Stop this now." Then there's lots of talk about Neve who in my opinion I think is being used as a PR puppet for Spyglass Media to clean up their image for the mishandling of the Melissa situation and the salary dispute. I mean no one is buying it, its clear they're using her to fix their mess and puts Neve in a bad light but I can't say without proof and other people in the ethernet have speculated this too or maybe Neve put herself in a bad light with her statements of women's empowerment and all that just comes across phoney. LOOK the only way scream 7 is being made with her right now is because melissa and jenna are gone (it's been reported that Jenna left scream 7 because of scheduling issues but the truth is that she supports Melissa and is pro Palestine, jenna liked a post regarding the situation with melissa on IG) and she was given a big check, perhaps their check. It's not because the studios heard and care for Neve or for women in Hollywood as she's been saying in recent interviews. Even a insider close to Gary Barber, saying he doesn't need any one else, not even Neve to make more Scream movies. You're so articulate and have a way with words that I personally could never. I just would like for you to talk about the odd state of the Scream franchise and your thoughts on this situation.
But getting there, getting into the games SUCKS.
then there's game exclusivity to certain headsets, like this new Arkham game.

The best way to watch Summer Games Fest is to forget about it until it's already over and just look at a recap
Agree so hard with this lol
I didn't know it was a physical event with live stream. I always thought it's just a week of devs showcasing new updates, games and discounts.
a note on the Blumhouse Games: they're launching a publishing studio, where they're essentially helping with the marketing and distribution of games made by indie devs and studios (which i think is really cool) hence why they have so many games ready to announce as they reached out to projects they found interesting.
Lmao the side note comment is realllll

The landscape just changed. Back when E3 was big it was the main way for publishers to reach gaming journalist and spread the word about their projects. Nowadays everyone can just publish trailers on RUclips and social media.

The timing with this coming out right after Nintendo had its showcase is NOICE.
That direct was epic. It was everything summer games fest was not
@@disaidra Agreed. The Nintendo Direct and Xbox Games Showcase blew SGF out of the water.
Not to mention the nintendo direct was free to watch and absolutely STACKED with amazing games coming out!
As a member of that small percentage, can confirm. When even IMAX movies are making me nauseous, I'm not touching VR with a 10 foot pole.
@@margaret_adelleI completely understand! I have to sit in just the right spot. It’s also why I drive almost everywhere.
As one of the five people who had a good time at DashCon, it is definitely possible to have a good time at an absolute dumpster fire of an event.
Went to PAX for the first time last year and I had a lot of fun. And I don’t even play video games that much
"the event could be horrific, but I will make sure that I have a good time" would love to see Swell time travel and give a review about the Titanic's safety plans
That is a brain-dead take from someone, who I KNOW has a brain.
the solution is to make SGF a private event and close it off from the public

Amanda just serving during the ad read 🔥

VR = a $400 accessory for a $600 console/$1k+ PC
That's why I'd groan.
Yeah, not to mention game exclusivity lol. So the 400$ accessory you own might not be able to play the game, and you either have to drop another 400$ or go without playing that game anyways...
It's for the Quest 3 which is only $400 and does not require a PC or console
@@Auryan highlight "only" 400.
It may simply be impossible to show movement without feeling movement and not make a significant number of people ill.)
Got a lot of money to burn, get the top VR games, and are lucky enough to have a brain that doesnt freak out, then VR is great, but thats a lot of hoops to jump through and the majority just get annoyed at a lot of time and money being put in to games for that niche audience.
I think AR has more potential, is more flexible, but so far every company trying it has insisted on making it super creepy. (With the possible exception of Microsoft of all people, likely because of its limited releases and a business focus.)
As a gamer, I agree. There wasn't really anything. The direct today was better.
The only really good thing about SGF this year was that Geoff actually addressed the games industry layoffs which people have been pushing him to do for a WHILE now.
You see, you fell for the old Rodrick trick. He lowered your expectations so him doing the bare minimum seemed impressive
@@NotGeno I wouldn't give props if it was only during the intro, but having both Outersloth and Blumhouse up there talking about funding indies was a show of keeping up that support, in my eyes
The reason why VR releases announcements are a let down is because of how many people actually have VR. It's a minor percentage of gamers in total.
Amanda, I was looking at parade yesterday. I'm considering this a sign and I will be helping you with this sponsor. That mint chocolate is too cute 💜
Over the next decade we are going to witness the reinvention of E3
E3 died because the big companies forgot that having a centralized event that's only open to press was actually really good for the industry as a whole.
I did IGN Live and let's just say my feedback form came with the comment "it felt like this was put together with no love or care."
It was run competently, but thats about the best thing I could say. There was just no there *there*

Okay I'm gonna NEED those pasta party undies. That's SO cute
man i miss E3, it died when it was open to the public hOWEVER! i *think* if youre still in LA in the fall there is an indie game festival called IndieCade

E3 was cringe, but it was OUR cringe, dammit!
Rinse and repeat
Also $40+ to just watch the show in person then get kicked out right afterwards is absurd.
I LOVE the disappointment about Batman being vr.
the parade ad has got me bisexually, respectfully, admiring ur body (and your openness/body positivity in general)
Lol creep

I went to the Triple Click Podcast taping - that was the highlight of Summer Games Fest adjacent programing :)
If "this could've been an email" was an event😆

OH MY GOD MARS FIRST LINGUISTICS (the first game I spotted in the Outersloth video) IS SICK AND MY TYPE OF GAME
They did that with Hi-fi rush
Your criticism of the middle bit with Jeff is fair that it’s disjoined, but tbf with the intro video skate 2 (& maybe 1?) had an evil corporation angle with “Mondo Corp” security guards trying to stop you from skating in certain areas & things like that so it’s not entirely out of left field for the series or skating culture in general
"John Wake" 😂😂😂 I didn't end up watching the whole thing, I just watched the Alan Wake II Night Springs DLC bit later.
RIP E3
Maybe Your Shortest But it KICKS ASS!!!
Unfortunately the mass layoffs in the gaming industry are what's making events like this seem lackluster (at least presentation-wise, not so much event-wise), I think we're up to 20,000 devs laid off this year and a bunch of studios closed, pretty much every major company was hit
I did watch summer games fest and day of the devs and was pretty disappointed with it all, but the wholesome direct the next day was pretty good
Don't know what health challenges you're facing, but wishing you well!!
Thank you for calling this shit out. I'm tired of this bullshit in the games industry. It's so tiresome.
“THATS IT??!? I WANTED KINGDOM HEARTS!!!”
THE REALEST THING TO EVER BE SCREAMED
Seriously Amanda, you make anything sound interesting. You have an amazing skill.
I feel like these big events now are more for streaming vs seeing them in person. Cause it sounds like it.
I get why this video is so short because it seems like they cut their own event short
Since any publisher can do a direct style live stream presentation, big gaming industry events/trade shows have declined in qualility.
Thanks for keeping me informed at whats happening in the world!
brave to do an underwear ad and actually show it, respect
Stop this now."
Then there's lots of talk about Neve who in my opinion I think is being used as a PR puppet for Spyglass Media to clean up their image for the mishandling of the Melissa situation and the salary dispute.
