I always saw the greatest improvement taking iron. FYI turmeric will pull iron out of your body. If you're taking turmeric, make sure it has pepper in it and take it with a fatty meal to help absorption. Coenzyme Q10 is also a good anti oxidant/anti inflammatory supplement.

You're right about curcumin/tumeric - good to take it separate from your iron and when my iron was really low I wouldn't take curcumin.

Great information Mel. What's your thoughts on the pre-workout you've talked about and blood pressure, but it's controlled by medication?

Hey Sarah. I would think these gentler ones might be ok but it would be similar to having a cup of coffee and I'm not sure if you are drinking coffee or not. Many of these more natural ones just use coffee bean extract or green tea extract for caffeine so you could google those ingredients and see what they say about blood pressure.

In my opinion I’d take protein… if it’s really needed to boost your daily intake if you’re not getting enough from food.
Turmeric I add into my daily omelette at a fraction of the cost of supplements and you’ll notice very little benefit from either.
A pre workout is useless sales crap… just have a coffee or cup of tea or anything with caffeine in an hour or so before the gym and save yourself the money.
Protein and Creatine are the only 2 supplements you need to build muscle over 40.
    I’d also add a vitamin D supplement of around 6000 - 9000 UI a day
After extensive blood testing 9000Ui was enough to take me out of a vitamin D deficiency and just into the norm.
So don’t waste your time with 1000 & 2000 a day unless you walk around all day in the sun.
If you sit at a desk 8-9hrs a day you’re deficient.

Thanks for your thoughts! I wouldn't say a preworkout is useless. A coffee can work but sometimes I don't have time for a coffee and I like to have something different.

    Collagen?

You don’t need collagen if you’re taking any other form of protein… it’s a total gimmick if you ask me and just makes you extremely bloated.
I’ve taken it for 2 weeks and stopped… I felt no benefit whatsoever but felt bloated and full of gas.

It will help boost your protein but I prefer regular protein powders. I haven't had a lot of luck with collagen - it tends to bother my stomach. You also don't get as complete of an amino acide profile as with whey for example.
