  • Prayers to Jerry "The King" Lawler who is recovering from his stroke earlier this week with good old wrestling friends Jimmy Hart and Dutch Mantel helping him out.
Back in the Winter of 1982 in the CWA, Jerry Lawler was entering a feud with Southern Heavyweight Champion Dutch Mantel that would keep escalating more and more.
But it was Jimmy Hart and his massive stable called the First Family that was causing havoc for everyone. Causing havoc for The Gibson brothers. Causing havoc for the Southern Tag Champions Bill Dundee and Steve Keirn. And Causing Havoc for Lawler too.
Plus The Midnight Express made up of Dennis Condrey, Randy Rose, and Norvell Austin are causing problems of their own.

Aww Man ! I hated to see this vid end !!! I could watch a continuing recap of these CWA shows all the way until they eventually shut down . I started watching wrestling as a kid when Hogan first won the belt , but this Memphis stuff along with NWA is what made me truly fall in love with wrestling ! Great times .

I remember seeing this on tv each Saturday morning, it was the place to be at 11:00 a.m. for 1 1/2 hrs. Memphis territory was 🔥 🔥 🔥 at the time

This was the beginnning of Memphis's most successful year. It was also just before a major storyline started that wasn't discussed in this video. The storyline was the Andy Kaufman storyline.

The Dundee /destroyer match was a “destroyer can pin Dundee twice in ten minute stipulation” so Dundee actually won that match.

So Jimmy hart and Stan Lane originated the cake promo/angle before Jim Cornette and mid-south. Wow!

Mid south had a lot of great ideas but they stole a lot too

@@OCGprowrestling understandable when see several of the wrestlers in one angle were in the exact same angle in a different territory. Lol

Corny would be the first to say he "recycled " a lot of angles. But everyone did to. It was easy to do in the territory days with no internet.

The first true Cake Angle also happened in Memphis in the late Seventies. It involved Pre MX Dennis Condrey, "Sergeant" Danny Davis, Jimmy Hart, and the Birthday Guest who was Jimmy Hart's poodle Fifi! No turmoil or violence was involved.😂🤣😂🎤🐩🎼🎸🎹B.W.

Why do you focus on the winter of 1982 so much? I'm just curious. I really like your channel.

I'm going to do each season of 1982 in order. Either this one will be the last of the winter or one more video and then moving on to the spring of 82 for the territories

Memphis was extra notorious for putting a famous mask on a John Doe & passing it off as the real thing.
Was a very funny ongoing debate between Jim Cornette and Scott Bowden on if Mil Mascaras actually made a one night only shot there once.
