To me, the second one's strength is in the human moments. The most resonating scene in the franchise comes from that film. Right after a truly pivotal moment, when Mr. Miyagi is in despair, Daniel delivers a great monologue where he provides much needed comfort that feels truly genuine. I still think about that scene in times of grief.
Of the Karate Kid Trilogy, (Not including the Next Karate Kid movie, the remake with Jayden Smith, or the Cobra Kai TV Show,) I personally say that Karate Kid II is my overall favorite. Sidenote; I think the AVGN should review the other Karate Kid movies and shows.
Gotta disagree wholeheartedly with Past James regarding _The Karate Kid’s_ Soundtrack! Don’t get me wrong: I love a lot of the same music he does, but I’ll always crank my volume every time I hear Cruel Summer by Bananarama! Also I was surprised he mistook Jessica in Part III- which was definitely the weakest, in my opinion- for Daniel’s girlfriend. Daniel was still with Kumiko. She was merely written out of the story by exposition: Kumiko wanted to dance ballet, as she told Daniel this in Part II, and was finally able to attend a school, which was previously unavailable in Okinawa.
I felt there did not NEED to be a 6th season and I know why it ends. The younger casts gets older. I mean Peyton List (Tory) and Tanner Buchanan (Robbie) are 22 years old this year.
To me Part 3 works as the point of all three of the films was like a giant story line and part 3 shows us the after effects of the third film like cobra kai now in ruins and how Terry silver tries to bring Daniel to his world also showing Mike barns as a dark counterpart to Johnny and Daniel seeing after joining Silver world now he became the thing he wanted to prevent
I always liked number 3 the most because of how entertaining Silver was. It’s frightening how he got so much joy from mentally torturing a teenager. The movie has a good lesson about how dangerous it can be to put your trust in the wrong mentor, which isn’t a theme that is covered much in films.
Cobra Kai (the show) is clearly in love with the third karate kid movie the most. I had a feeling at the end of season 5, that we reached a huge high with the series, and there wasn't much more to do, hence season 6 is gonna be the last
They are a fun bunch of films. I've long pondered though, couldn't Daniel-san have avoided so many problems by simply calling the police, like when the karate bullies vandalized the bonsai shop?
I like this trilogy because there is no "monster-inflation". After three movies Daniel still kind of sucks at karate. That is rare. They do not have to dump 1000 Aliens on him or make the next terminator 10 times more lethal than the prior.
it was less than 10 actually. I hate that Stupid idiots who think Daniel is suggesting Murder, he just thought Miyagi was going to a minute before. 5:11
The thing I hated most about #3 was that Daniel broke up with Kumiko (and off screen) from #2. That's the one I wanted him to end up with. In my head canon, he moved to Okinawa.
well the thing is Daniel-san cant just move to Japan, he went with Mr. Miyagi to help take care of some old business, though they probably vowed to get together again once they were fully adults, as moving to/living in Japan is expensive to say the least.
@@UltimateGamerCC Yeah. Daniel never said he and Kumiko broke up. She longed to be a ballet dancer and finally was able to attend a school (that previously didn’t exist) in Okinawa. Also, I was surprised that an absolute movie buff like _Past James_ 🤣 made the same mistake that a lot of people do by assuming that Jessica was Daniel’s girlfriend. It was established that the two were friends and were both in relationships, Daniel obviously being with Kumiko. That said, I still don’t like the third or, for that matter, the fourth films. I and II, however, will always hold special places in my heart.
@@UltimateGamerCC Totally true and honestly it's more what I would want than what's realistic for Daniel. Daniel could probably afford to live in that Okinawan fishing village, but in #3 he says she moved to Tokyo and joined a dance troupe. I haven't seen Cobra Kai, to hear how they wrapped up her character. As traditional as she was, though, it should've been hard for her to break ties with a boy she served the tea ceremony.
Am interesting thing about this trilogy is that they take place in the span of a year. The beginning of the third we see them get off the plane from Okinawa. The most Daniel can be by the end is seventeen, since it's the All Valley under eighteen tournament.
And I thought the tournament was an under 18 thing? How would Daniel even be allowed to compete a year after high school? And Barnes didn't seem like a high school kid either.
In the movie of TMNT 2: The Secret of the Ooze in 1991, We see Michelangelo was being told to be quiet by Raphael while saying “Wax on, Wax off”. So I imagine that he makes a shitty smirk on his face while he was looking at Raphael for a bit or so and will be saying to him by going, “No”, I will not mouth off. I am going to say, “wax on” and “wax off” again. If you don’t like it, Oh well, So wax on, wax on.” as he says wax on and off again at the tables.
Have you done a review of hook? Its an amazing movie in my book. It has nostalgic qualities for sure. All the reviews say its awful. But i still think its great
Interesting that James is not bothered at all by the lack of language barrier in Karate Kid II. Chōzen and Kumiko speak fluent English to Daniel, even though that's pretty much impossible. So realistically, their interactions with him could not happen at all.
only 1 year ago? 2024. wow. i finally disagree. youre showing your age, and your youth at the same time san. and by san, son sun sun son san. whatever.
i red part 2 was supposed to be 3 hence why it didnt make sense why daniel would be scared of barnes having fought to the death in the previous movie, youd think a tournament would be a breeze lol

That is for sure a top 5 scene, for me, of this franchise.
For three films with a three completely different stories, they actually all flow together pretty well
Nobody ever talks about the fourth one.😂

Great to see the Terry Silver commentary made before Cobra Kai continued his arc

Cobra Kai season six is gonna rule. It's their last one and it makes me smile how it kept the original trilogy in mind and keeping it all great.
Fuck cobra kai
I felt there did not NEED to be a 6th season and I know why it ends. The younger casts gets older. I mean Peyton List (Tory) and Tanner Buchanan (Robbie) are 22 years old this year.
The Karate Kid Part III deserves reappreciation! Kobrai Kai showed just how valuable to the story it was!
Part 3 still sucks! Cobra Kai only fixed things because they have to acknowledge it
its kinda like how in Star Wars, the Clone Wars fixed most of the dumb shit in the prequel trilogy

Slightly better than II. But as a standalone movie, it still sucks nonetheless.
Lol…”I wish that train would have hit them and saved us an hour of non-sense”😂 love it! Love your reviews James!
Mr. Miyagi doing the "Wah" mock in Karate Kid 3!🤣
Do you mean you never watched the 4th movie? I liked it despite Daniel-san's replacement. The staples of the Karate Kid formula are there
It's really good, better than the reboot for sure. Underrated gem

They are a fun bunch of films. I've long pondered though, couldn't Daniel-san have avoided so many problems by simply calling the police, like when the karate bullies vandalized the bonsai shop?
The police doesn't exist in these movies. What could they do against karate ?! They are hopeless
He did. They didn't do anything.
The fact that Daniel’s skill level always goes back to 0 after every movie
I am so glad you are releasing these old reviews that I think were only originally on your website. More please!

That sounds like an awful fanfiction.
I love the dated music in movies. It takes me back to my childhood and gives me loads of nostalgia
Karate Kid II is my favorite one.

You make some really cool vids man! I was born in ‘81. We were blessed to have had some awesome movies come out when we were young. Take care.
I always loved seeing the fog machine when he’s running from them, after the party.
With Pat Morita being in Karate Dog, I think we can all head canon that into being the 5th film in the series.
5:08 Daniel's questions don't seem so stupid if you read the amount of viewers' comments saying Daniel should have killed kreese in cobra kai 3..
I like how The Next Karate Kid isn’t considered canon 😂

The only redeemable thing about part 3 is that we got the insanity of terry silver in the crazy ass cobra Kai show.

We all know Daniel was the real bully.
🤦♂️This again? Stopping someone from destroying someone else’s property does not make you a bully.
I just don’t understand why Daniel never got the police involved in all of the problems he’s had in all 3 movies🤷♂️
snitches get stitches man, you take care of your own problems, getting the fuzz involved would just make it worse.
If you have a problem and you call the police now you have two problems.
Movie logic, the police in movies are useless
Daniel was the real bully
He started trouble when there wasn't any the other guy just retaliated
@@standardofexcellenceSo stopping someone from destroying someone else’s property is starting trouble?
