Actually they didn't. The band from Drumline had no affiliation with NCAT. The band they used was actually a high school hand in ATL called Southwest Dekalb. Look it up
Dré Jackson no that movie drumline has everything to do with nc a&t u need to look ur stuff up better. It's all in the credits after the movie goes off that nc a&t had everything to do with that. They try to say Atlanta a&t if there is one that don't mean nothing. Those are our colors and our band. Blue and gold
Leah Chalmers actually ma'am that is highly incorrect. Drumline is based on 2 marching bands: SouthWest DeKalb High School in Atlanta and Florida A&M University in Florida. SWD's school colors and band uniform was the exact same as A&T's but their mascot is the Panther. These are well known facts within the black marching band community.
I've watched this show dozens of times over the last few months and I still think this was one of the best marching band performances I've ever seen. What's even more amazing to me is this performance happened in August before the college football season had started. So this was actually A&T's first performance of the season. To give a performance with that sound and flawless exercution that early in the season is quite an accomplishment. The 2010 A&T marching band was outstanding.
HBCU is a great example of society. It's the kind of institution that people can look at and be proud. I'm a white Englishman (so I don't have much experience with the social pressures of America), but I find it fascinating that there is an entire dedicated system to the African-American culture. It's great, and I only see progress.
also, kinda love that he says to listen carefully, and you can't hear what he says. what if they were extremely good words of wisdom? we'll never know :\
I have only watched this video a million times!!! I'm an Eagle but this ret chere is killn.... Y'all put y'all foot in this...PERFECTION!!! ENERGY LIKE NON OTHER!!!
in case you couldn't tell, that wasn't actually part of the show. the raising one hand in the air at 0:55 is the universal sign in band for "stop playing right the hell now." that's probably the coolest part of this. the fact that they just spontaneously decided "we should play the bed intruder song. to hell with the repercussions!"
For all black people Dont listen to The racist about You You need to be happy to be yourself Some people might like black people, Right? I like black people 👍🏻👍🏼👍🏽👍🏾👍🏿 (And I dont wanna be A racist) 💃🏻💃🏼💃🏽💃🏾💃🏿 🙋🏻🙋🏼🙋🏽🙋🏾🙋🏿
I was at this BOTB, on the 50 yard line. . . and trust me. . . this video does no justice in relaying how insanely loud that last part was A&T got more house from the crowd, than any other band. . . and im a WSSU alum (about as unbiased an opinion you'll find). . . .
Excellent footage. Whoever did the camera work knows what they are doing. The constant changing angles that allow you to see so much from a distance and up close is just awesome; not to mention that A&T was going ham. Wish the sound quality was better.
@glenyale Also, a distinct style of marching band was crafted at HBCU's. We play standard marches, popular radio music, and high step instead of heal/toe. Some love it some hate it(those clear people)
You didn't see the entire show. There is about 8-12 minutes of the very beginning of the show. This was just to excite the crowd as it was during the whole "Bed Intruder" fiasco from a couple of years ago.
As others have explained, yes - HBCUs are simply *historically* black. (FWIW, while they are far fewer, there are schools identified as historically Hispanic, e.g. UTEP, or Native American, e.g. UNC-Pembroke) When I was in grad school, I tried out for what was then called the BSM Gospel Choir, which came out of a historic UNC group called the "Black Student Movement." My fellow choir members were most welcoming, and once the chorus later changed to "UNC Gospel Choir," it drew more diverse folks.
in the year of our lord 2021 im finally finding this exists. so many wasted years
Wow you missed out.
OMG I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY THING LIKE THIS BEFORE THIS WAS AMAZING SO MANY TALENTED PEOPLE

This is america on Friday and Saturday nights.
Now I see why they made the movie Drumline based on this band!

@Super Predator Mailman it,s a historically black college although anyone of any race and background may attend .

@OnlyModeratelyMad You could've left that side note out. Very unecessary. Ijs
Wait... What side note? (Just curious. I didn't see one.)
Emma Sanders He said "sidenote: I'm not usually into black chicks, but these ladies were hot" He could've just said they looked good out there.
marchbabi323 Oh. In that case, I totally agree with you. It's also kind of racist.
AMAZING! just show how much talent there is in the world!
that's hillarious. So awesome that a band did something different like this!
I was at this BOTB, on the 50 yard line. . . and trust me. . . this video does no justice in relaying how insanely loud that last part was A&T got more house from the crowd, than any other band. . . and im a WSSU alum (about as unbiased an opinion you'll find). . . .
