Yeah even Q was freaked out by the Borg, not just in Next Gen but in voyager he yelled at his son not to provoke the Borg. Actually think about it for a second what if the Borg ever assimilated a member of the Q collective?
At least this continued Voyager's proud tradition of coming up with a seemingly inexhaustible supply of new crew members despite being the only Federation ship in 70,000 light years with a fixed crew compliment of around 140.
Another great review. As a fan of Star Trek I like seeing someone else enjoy it as much as I do. 8:10 I think you took Tuvok's "Kobayashi Maru" comment in the wrong context. Tuvok wasn't saying that the training simulation was unwinnable (despite the ridiculous odds). He was saying that Mr. Monroe should consider the simulation his personal "Kobayashi Maru" because he failed and has to deal with it. It doesn't excuse Tuvok's comments about shooting Foster though. Or maybe I'm giving the creators of this comic too much credit. If they can't be bothered to draw speech bubbles to the correct characters and can put Chakotay in two places at once, how could they have INTENDED any perceived subtleties in the dialog?
zentfan In the comic, he says that the simulation should be considered a no-win scenario, but there are more difficult tests. As Linkara said, "How does it get more difficult than "not-possible-to-win?"
Elite Force, which you can get for around $10.00, is much better than Elite Force II, which you can get for around $50.00!!! I have them both. In Elite Force, if you kill a crew member, you end up in the Brig, and one of the cast members chews you out (Janeway says she knew your father). You can also go to the bridge and turn on the self-destruct, causing Chakotay to yell, "That's treason, Mister!"
You know, there are actually a few times where I'm reminded that Mechakara is Pollo from another universe. Mostly when he gets sarcastic and cynical. 'Tis his trademark.
I know you've got a lot on your plate, but the Elite Force 2 LP is one of those things that I'm quietly looking forward to a lot whenever there's time for it to happen. I know nothing about it but enjoyed the first one so much.
I was under the impression you just didn't like "Voyager" (I've only seen a bit of your show so far), so I'm pleasantly surprised you love the game so much and care about the characters' portrayals. This was a fun watch.
@2:29 I would LOVE to see a slightly longer version of these "Starfleet Security Fails', could seee a video like that easily going viral (assuming it doesn't already exist)
At 10:26 Linkara asks how the last two tests can be worse than an Kobyashy Maru-esk combat sim, the answer is that one is unending barrage of standardized tests, and the other is attempting to win an internet argument.
You completely misunderstood Tuvok's point, Lewis. Tuvok meant that since this combat training went really badly, Alex may as well call it a Kobayashi Maru. It wasn't INTENDED as one, just ended up as one. In other words, Tuvok was saying, "Learn from the failure, digest what happened, and get ready, because the next tests are going to be harder."
16:24 not to mention Chakotay you forgot in the episode "unity" well he wasn't necessary assimilated but he was mind-controlled by the unassimilated Borg but then again thank god he didn't get assimilated
Glad SF Debris is now on Channel Awesome, after finally finishing Madoka (as you can see by my icon), I watched his entire respective in one sitting and his videos are actually pretty good.
I just realised Mechkara *still* hasn't checked in on his home universe. He was supposed to return with the data he collected on magic for the robot war effort; wouldn't it just be delicious if they were defeated during his absence because of that--making his obsession with killing Linkara directly responsible?
Haha, I watched Linkara's entire Let's Play of Elite Force some years ago. It was great, except for the pirate base. He kept getting caught and using heavy weapons and I was practically shouting at the screen "USE THE PHASER RIFLE'S SNIPER FUNCTION!" Buuuut, I admit I just prefer using stealth as a general strategy. I hope eventually the Patreon goal for an Elite Force II Let's Play is reached someday, 'cause that's something that NEEDS to happen.
I can't stand most of Voyager myself and what they did to the Borg, but again, the Star Wars prequels are among my favorite movies. It's hilarious how a comic fails to be as good as the game. Makes me want to watch your Let's Play.
I just learned that there was a sequel to Elite Force, unimaginatively named Star Trek Elite Force 2. Have you ever tried it? And if not, would you be open to trying to do a Let's Play of that as well? At the very least I think it'd be a fun ride.
+Linkara-AtopTheFourthWall You know what, I'd rather have them using IMODs against them than the people just not firing when Biessman does his thing on the Forge. So, the game isn't the best either.
@@calebmayfield3326 no, that's stupid, they have almost nothing in common. Star Wars is much closer to Sci-fi LotR in terms of influence, story, and even popularity.
about Tuvok's statement that the combat sim was a Kobayashi Maru...it wasn't about the mission itself, it was about the choice at the end of the mission. Either kill your friends and complete the mission (or at the very least escape alive) or let them live and get assimilated.
The 1 problem I had with the game was the abysmal frame rate. Other than that, good game. I just wish I had the PC version instead of the PS2 version though, so I could explore Voyager without being restrained by the plot.
with respect linkara I could see the Borg using ranged weapons with their drones to stun some one and do well what they do unspeakable things to them. also we do see Borg use hand ranged weapons. in the episode 'survival instinct' were a still drone seven of nine uses her a phaser like implant built into her arm to stun a few other drones that were trying to escape the collective and she lost her shit and hunted them down to bring them back.
Loved the game. Wished it and its sequel didn't have the AI target only the human being almost always.... Very simple but still very enjoyable. Something like the Hazard Team would have saved a lot of redshirts in the universe of Star Trek.... Star Trek: Voyager... Simply put people who made it couldn't seem to decide on the personality of the characters, or the plots, or anything. Now I'm gonna check out his LP.
Linkara, I found all 3 seasons of Star Trek the Original series on amazon for reasonable price. Would you recommend starting from the original series (other exposures are new movies)?
btw, if you don't save Foster, at the end of the Borg Mission, Munro reveals that he can't kill Foster. He can shoot him, but not kill him. Also, in the game that they don't even try to save him if you don't get him off that Assimilation Chamber table in time.
Ya forgot chakotay was assimilated by those Borg that was disconnected from the collective.wlso the three Borg that crashed with seven was also unassimilated too
Playing though this game now, actually. I really like. There are other Star Trek fps before this by the way, mainly Klingon Honor Guard which is... interesting.
The next two levels are even harder because as opposed to being no-win, they are no-start. It's impossible for the guy to even access the simulations, and after a set amount of time, Tuvok just shows up again and berates him for longer and longer amounts of time. Or, conversely, the last two involve having to endure living in the same room as Neelix. :P Whichever sounds worse to Mr. Monroe here, I guess.
Here's a question that has always bugged me. Why did they MAKE the I-MOD? I mean... wouldn't it be more cost-effective if they used bullets, since we know the Borg can't adapt to projectile-based weaponry? Wouldn't using a weapon like the TR-116 Rifles be more resource friendly than wasting time and effort creating something like the I-MOD?
If that were true, then why have they never adapted to them then? Picard used a Tommy Gun against the Borg, TR-116's never loose their effectiveness... Projectilles continue to work.
117Jorn. because he is only ever firing the gun for a few seconds, also...those are NOT projectiles, they are holographic projections. essentially energy weapons in the form of force fields.
You missed a few people from the "people who were saved by the Borg" list, i.e. the Borg children, the Borg who found individuality on the planet with 7 of 9 until she screwed them over, and all of the Borg in unimatrix zero.
LINKARA! i know who created the vohrsoth! The Iconians. Because it makes so much sense. the final boss hinted at it. the ancient ones as stated.... that they created them. the timelines add up. and since you've obviously played star trek online... it makes so much sense.
But the point of the Kobayashi Maru was to see if a potential commander had the ability to remain cool and in control even in a ridiculously bad situation. That training simulation was designed for the same purpose, to see if Munro could stay cool even when things repeatedly went arbitrarily wrong. That's true in the game too. He lost patience with the scenario, and got them all killed. If he hadn't, he likely would have died eventually regardless, but what mattered was how he died. So the comparison is correct. You're right that saying the other tests are even harder is stupid, though.
Ooooo can you imagine if instead of Voyager this took place in DS9?! Your a trainee for a new security officer having to defend the base and you can have a gambling mini game with quark
Unfortunately I don't really follow most of the material you review (my problem not yours ;-) ), but I just wanted to drop by and let you know that from all accounts it seems like you were a really stand-up guy in the midst of a real shitshow. Everyone really seems to have pointed to you as one of the people that actually looked out for others while you were on CA. So even if I can't promise a subscribe, I definitely want to give you props for that.
Boy, thank goodness they revised the game's script before finishing it. These days it's this rubbish beta version glimpsed in the comic that would likely ship to store shelves
Sadly no. People have requested it on GOG but to no avail. There's a way to get it working on Windows 7, provided you still own the disc, if you're interested.
About the only thing I know about Voyager is that Janeway is about as caffeine-obsessed as I am, but I'm not writing a comic about it. If I was, I'd at least take the time to learn the CHARACTER'S NAMES.
You know, this comic leaves me with a question that was probably handled in the show, but I was never able to stomach Voyager, so I haven't watched nearly as much of it as I have TNG and TOS (which I only ever watched because my dad was a Trekkie): if Picard, Janeway, Torres, and Tuvok were all assimilated, rescued, and returned to their normal forms after having the cybernetics removed, then why does Seven of Nine still have cybernetics, and why does she still go by her Borg designation?
Going off personal memory here so I may be somewhat off in the fine details: Annaka Hansen (Seven of Nine's birth name) was assimilated at a very young age along with her parents when their research vessel was captured by the Borg. She'd been a member of the collective for years, while the rest of the people you mentioned were only Borg for days, if not mere hours, upon their rescue. Their bodies had only recently been converted and given implants, and were not yet dependant on them. Seven, however, had been living as a Borg for longer than she'd been a normal human. The Voyager's EMH, aka the Doctor, removed as many of her implants as was physically possible for her body to handle when they rescued her from the collective, but certain ones could not be removed because her body had grown dependant on them. Removing them would have been fatal, because her organic parts wouldn't have been able to function anymore without them. For example, one episode revolved around the crew having to try to find a replacement implant from a Borg drone to swap out with her's because it was failing, and couldn't be repaired. As for why she still wants to be called Seven of Nine, as stated above, she was a Borg longer than she'd been a normal human, and felt a closer connection to the collective than to humanity for the first few years after she'd been rescued by Voyager. She felt more comfortable being referred to by her Borg designation than by a human name, even after the crew figured out who she'd been before being assimilated. Hope that explains things a bit for you!
Aaaah Wildstorm, the same company featuring The Authority by Warren Ellis, you know, the series about a group of rude and brutal superheroes who then got parodied in Superman Vs. The Elite?
@@AT4W Thank you. Can I keep bugging you ith another question? If Voyager is tossed 75 light years away from Earth, how do they do repairs/refuel and such?
I never understood why the people in the Star Trek universe never (to my knowledge, maybe it happened eventually) use conventional guns that shoot bullets against the Borg. I remember they established in 1 of the movies that they were effective against the Borg because they weren't energy based, so they couldn't adapt to them. And you can't say there were none. I refuse to believe they couldn't use the replicator tech to make them.
While never addressed openly, the implication seems to be that the Borg WOULD adapt. Instead of an energy shield only popping up when energy blasts were hitting them, they'd just come up more constantly to block. Phasers can be retuned and worked around, but once they realize "Just keep it up all the time," the projectile bullets are useless.
Trust me, there's plenty that doesn't make sense especially with the technology of Star Trek. There's an episode in late-Deep Space 9 where a serial killer is going around and they realize he's using a projectile weapon with a miniature transporter and a targeting sensor that can scan through walls - meaning he can shoot a bullet from their own quarters and kill someone without a trace and you realize "Wait, why have we not been employing this VERY cool technology before against the enemy we're at war with?!" The gun part (not the implementation of the transporter tech and see-through-walls tech) was explained away as Starfleet deciding to go in a different direction with their weapons technology (the gun was developed to be used in areas where energy-dampening fields would prevent the use of phasers, but they went with a tech that worked around the fields, instead), but it still feels like the kind of thing where you scratch your head wondering why it isn't being used more.
@AT4W Huh, cool, I didn't know that. BTW, can I just say how awesome it is you still reply from time to time on posts from your older stuff. It make going back and watching them again a lot more fun. Most creators on YT now in day, for one reason or another, don't respond to comments even on their new stuff.
Well, in the case of situations like this, the comments tab on RUclips Studio lets us see new comments being posted on older videos (just not new replies to an older comment unless we scroll a loooong way back), so it makes it easier to do so. And I get it depending on the RUclipsr. I find it important to read all comments so I get a proper feel for how people are reacting to the videos, others are happy to just release their stuff into the ether and never check.

Yep I did.
Was just looking to see if anyone else noticed.

+Kfor Kira Thanks for revealing your fetish to everyone.
islamroks11 That's what the internet was made for :D
Kfor Kira
I admire your honesty.
Ensign Munroe can beat the crap out of Commander Shepard!
So, Star Trek Elite Force (the game) is canon to the Linkara multiverse.
Awesome
Aaaah Wildstorm, the same company featuring The Authority by Warren Ellis, you know, the series about a group of rude and brutal superheroes who then got parodied in Superman Vs. The Elite?
24:30 that voice actually does unsettle me a little
This will more than likely never get noticed but I think Linkara should do a lets play of Elite Force 2 the continuation of Munro's journey.
Wait. Is Voyager a constellation class ship then?
Intrepid-Class.
@@AT4W Thank you. Can I keep bugging you ith another question? If Voyager is tossed 75 light years away from Earth, how do they do repairs/refuel and such?
Is there anyone else who wishes that this game was a TV show?
Any recommendations for good Star Trek comics?
It seems really convenient doesn't it that they go through a Borg training simulation and then a Borg ship just happens to appear?
@AT4W Okay, lol. I guess that makes sense, in a Star Trek way, lol.
Trust me, there's plenty that doesn't make sense especially with the technology of Star Trek. There's an episode in late-Deep Space 9 where a serial killer is going around and they realize he's using a projectile weapon with a miniature transporter and a targeting sensor that can scan through walls - meaning he can shoot a bullet from their own quarters and kill someone without a trace and you realize "Wait, why have we not been employing this VERY cool technology before against the enemy we're at war with?!"
The gun part (not the implementation of the transporter tech and see-through-walls tech) was explained away as Starfleet deciding to go in a different direction with their weapons technology (the gun was developed to be used in areas where energy-dampening fields would prevent the use of phasers, but they went with a tech that worked around the fields, instead), but it still feels like the kind of thing where you scratch your head wondering why it isn't being used more.
Are...are those aliens just the Star Trek version of the 'nids?
What’s Descent?
be fair to Voyager, I know of people to whom it defined how they view the world in the same way Camelot is to you
or A person anyhow
Neeeeeeeeeeeerd!
Simpsons did it. Simpsons did it.
+lastswordfighter none CN is Dead
USS.... Green Futon....
Well, he could have said USS .... Smelly Socks ....
These graphics look like they're from a comic book.
EAT MY PURPLE DEATH!!!!!!!
purple/pink weapons are the most badass weapons in existence. I like the irony of a so-called "girly" color raining death upon my enemies. I really like going against the grain of society.
