I'll never forget the first time we gave our pigs fleeces. They rolled and sprawled and rubbed their faces on it for an hour! They were very happy piggies! But we also had a hay corner for them to snooze in to, which they did love to do as well.
I love how much Lumi and Lulu have come out of their shells the past few months, they are super cute and it's good to see them give Gatsby and Nugget a run for their money 😂❤
I have gone to using chenille bath mats with no backing (I have accidentally gotten some with backing and it’s awful on the dryer so look when ordering online) to use in the cage like your IKEA rugs rather than fleece liners. I usually have a combination. The rugs are far more affordable and absorbent.
My three pigs have a room of their own and are on fleece. I DID underestemate the cleaning involved, especially cleaning the washingmachine everytime is a bit of a drag...but they are so happy after (and during) cleaning up! Its worth it😊
I use to use bedding, but my husband was having an allergic reaction. So switched to fleeced and use a shop vac to clean up the cage. Only have to grab the big piles of hay but the shop vac does the rest. Then also not ruining a regular vacuum, since shop vacs are made for the messes my girls make.
I only have 2 pigs so I obviously have a much smaller cage than you do, but I love having fleece bedding. I got a little handheld vacuum so cleaning really isn't that bad for me. Getting the vacuum probably cut down my cleaning time by about a third, including the time it takes to empty it when it gets too full
@@kimmyhuynh434 I would link it but it's a Bissel, specifically the Bissel Featherweight Stick Lightweight Bagless Vacuum that I got on Amazon. My favorite thing about it is that it can be used as a hand vacuum but it also comes with a handle that can turn it into a regular type of vacuum. So I use it us a hand one for cleaning the cage but then I can use it to clean the rest of the room after floor time!
I just lift my fleece and shake it all off into a bin. I have lots of fleeces so I can change regularly without having to wash all the time. But I only have 2 piggies and my cage is smaller.
You should get a good vacuum! What I do is pick up all the hay with gloves and a trasbag and then vacuum all the beans. It makes it so FAST AND EASY! I have a Dyson with an extension hose that I go in a deal when I bought it and it works perfectly with the beans. However, it does get clogged with the hay bits so I have to unclogge it a couple times when I am cleaning if I did a bad job picking up the hay. My cage has two floors now, so the hay stays only on the second floor, kinda like a kitchen area. Vacuuming is so easy now! I think there are more professional vacuums that could handle pieces of hay, and as you have a big heard and a channel it might be worth investing in one. Also, my piggies were scared of the noise at first but now they don't care about it at all, they actually get excited because they know they will get a cookie after I clean them.
We got our pigs when they were babies.. we used shavings for a week or two then we switched so fleece, they were wheaking and popcorning it was so cute since they were so tiny
We have some extra smaller potty pads that we change daily. They tend to pee and poo on those the most. We put then in spots they regularly like to potty in. It makes things a little easier, just a bit more laundry.
Our setup is a cage attached to a play area. The play area is all fleece. The cage is bedding and that is where their hay is. It makes for much easier cleanup for me. I just roll up the potty pads with the bedding and hay and toss it. Then I can vacuum the fleece in the play/food area without getting my vacuum stuffed with hay. We have a bridge that attaches the two areas and it works really well for us.
Like everyone else is saying, either a vacuum or shaking each rug into a bin would make the process easier and faster than sweeping each tiny area by hand. I always shake my rats' fleece, and then only use the brush while holding it up if something is still stuck.
Love these piggies! My piggies love the very soft recycled bedding from oxbow and get all cozy in it when I put fresh in the cage! I love how comfy they seem!
I buy my fleece liners on Etsy (bath mats didn't work for me) I hate having any hair in my washer and dryer, so I use my Dyson vacuum on my fleece liners. It's the pet hand held attachment that has it's own rollers, so when I wash the fleece, there is practically no hair left on it.
Gadsby in the hidie with the kickstand deployed (rear leg) 😘. They LOVE having a fresh space to play and live ... mine would generally popcorn after the cleaning
My guinea pigs are very funny when it comes to their places to hide. My guinea pig Dude loves cuddling up against Buddy (my other guinea pig) and Buddy doesn’t usually like it. It’s cute how Dude wants to be as close to Buddy as possible and Buddy is just sick of it. It’s super funny after they get into a fight too, because they’re laying up against each other and snuggling but making their little complaining noises and sometimes even fluffing up their fur at each other, while wanting to be close to each other and refusing to be the one to move. Also, if Buddy wants to hide in the house, he doesn’t chase Dude out through the door. Instead, he just uses his snoot to lift the side of the house and move it away from Dude so he can hide in it. He likes to use his head to solve all his problems. And I mean literally use his head. If he doesn’t like where something is he pushes it off to the side with his head. It was all fine until he decided he didn’t like where their rock is (I have a rather smooth rock in there that Dude likes to paw at, and it helps keep his nails short, and so far it hasn’t hurt their paws so I haven’t seen a need to take it out yet) and he tried to move the rock with his head. And then he got mad at the rock and started chittering at it and fluffing up his fur at it. It was adorable, but I quickly moved the rock to where he wanted it so he wouldn’t hurt himself. It’s now currently in the corner of their cage and he likes sitting on it like it’s his throne, and he’s very happy where their rock is.
I sped up cage cleaning using the following: Cat pooper scooper + dustpan to get hay into dustpan and throw out. It scoops up hay far better than the brush Bissel handheld hoover for the beans Game changer!
We just bought some fleece for our 3 piggies which will be the most part of the cage but we have this attachment where we want to put different bedding in, in the hope that they will poop there the most and it just becomes easier to clear where as now I have the whole cage with that bedding
I am also back to 100% fleece bedding for a while. From a usually reliable hay company, one bale arrived with tiny hitchhikers. Unfortunately this was not noticed by the human supposedly in charge (aka me). Relatively soon it became super evident that there was a PROBLEM. I tossed (safely) out the remaining floor and bagged unused hay. I now only have hay in a dispenser similar to the one in this video. Animals are safe and healthy. I too have the phenomenon of now you see it, now you don't with guinea pig and chinchilla cages once clean, now not.
I have a very fancy vacuum, but I still feel like I have to sweep them (or shake the liners outside like a rug). Maybe it's just because of habit (I also have 4 girls and a cage maybe 75-80 fleece with a bedding in the "kitchen" area) I think I have equilibrium, but I agree, it feels like a full time job cleaning up
I do hope you get your bedding soon. Three days ago I just bought my first 2 fleece liners plus other goodies from Guineadad for my piggie I can't wait. It has to be easier than cleaning pine bedding which we have now.
Yikes, be very careful with Pine Bedding. It has a resin/dust that's toxic to piggys and other rodents if it's not processed properly by the manufacturer, causing upper respiratory infections and distress. If you can, switch to Aspen Bedding or paper bedding.
How cute to hear your baby human in the background 😊 with of course first all guinea pigs'noises! I would be curious once if you tell us how piggies got used or not used to baby crying that can be very loud sometimes. Because instead of cats they cant just flee the disturbing noise source^^
My cage is rather a medium size one and I only use fleece but I truly applrud your patience to use a brush and a dust pan xD I cannot do that and just use a little portable vaccum

Really no hate just information from lots of breeders I have received: natural bedding and huge piles of hay around the cage (to the point that they can bury in it) is best for guinea pigs.I have also used fleece before but I have changed as this is best for piggies and they love it.I hope that helps😊
Some 'natural bedding' eg, sawdust, is actually very bad for guinea pigs' respiration, so you need to be careful with that. I had trouble finding good natural bedding that wasn't dusty. Notably, 'breeders' aren't necessarily considered experts on the welfare of guinea pigs, and most knowledgeable owners of pet guinea pigs use fleece. Personally, I have not used fleece, and I do think that guinea pigs very much enjoy having hay to burrow in, however, it does come at a certain amount of risk of eye poke injuries.
You have a lot of reasons to want simplicity in cleaning your cage and she was sounding adorable in the back ground.. I have a large cage with 5 girls and a smaller cage with 1 male. I've tried fleece it's okay but it stinks pretty quickly even with special pads and piggies don't seem to care for it as much as the shavings. My only problem with shavings is the space it takes up in the garbage but it's manageable in a house in an apartment it would be tough.
I have a question, when you did use shavings in the cage what shavings did you use because I’m trying t find some dust and splinter free shavings in a big bale for my pigs because the small bags dont last me that long. Love your videos xx

They are so messy! To me at least it's even more funny because most rodents like to keep clean, but... not guinea pigs 😂
When I'm cleaning our pigs' fleece liner I pick up the corners one-by-one so everything falls to the middle and is easier to sweep up in one spot
I do that, and end up dropping one dang corner EVERY SINGLE TIME 😆.

I’d say more than that, but we have 4 so it’s hard to tell who leaves what.
