Glacier National Park: Grizzly vs Moose

While working in Glacier National Park over the summer at the Many Glacier Hotel, I witnessed this crazy occurrence. The Mama Moose had twins, and after several days of stalking them, the bear got the first baby. However, when he went for the second baby, this is what happened.
It's been just over a month since this happened, and as far as we can tell the baby moose is still safe and sound due to the Mama Moose's courage and constancy. Let's go, queen.
And yes, this is the original video and I have all rights.

I knew both of those things since I was 16 and I'm 68 now... Go spend a summer in Yellowstone or other big national park, do some back country hiking and you'll either learn about the critters or you'll die of stupidity... One or the other. Listen to the Park Rangers!

I’m from Quebec and moose are known to be unpredictable. Years ago my wife and I crossed into Maine and the border guard told us to be vigilant as it was late evening and moose were sighted. We spotted 17 moose on the road that night. Took us 2 hours to do 40 miles. One stood in the middle of the road and when we approached he started running alongside our car like a moose wingman. He was about a foot away from my door. A park ranger in New Hampshire told us moose have no sense of where to go when faced with danger. This makes for unpredictable behaviour.

She had no sooner shut the car off when the passenger side window , front windshield and corner post exploded in a shower of glass and the car ender up down the embankment sideways with the car horn blowing. Yeep the Civic was attacked and totaled by an angry Moose .

I'm not convinced there is one there. Moose despise bears because they do take their calves, so this one didn't need any more provocation than the bear approaching it too near. After the moose gave it time to reconsider and move off, it correctly assesed the bear was entertaining stalking it. As you know, moose have strong fight or flight reactions, and this moose was in the water where it was vulnerable, so it chose fight and went on the offensive. Bears swim just fine, so swimming away was not an option for the moose.

I got a job in Wyoming in the Big Horn mountains.....Meadowlark Lodge was the lake lodge that was the base for the employees and my cabin was on the lake there, got to see loads of Moose, but there they always kept their distance. There is a wooded lodge area down the road going West and I stayed there first though and I was told not to even worry about bears, I was told to be deathly afraid of Moose, especially during mating seasons or if it were a momma Moose.
I got charged by a bull moose coming out of my cabin once and I got to see 2 moose lock horns and fight for about 15 minutes, but I never saw a bear. I think I know why now. That bear was terrified!
:43 - :44 You can hear when the Moose is running, suddenly it starts clomping and sounds like horse hooves, cause the thing is lifting its legs up high when running and hoping to bring them down with serious force on that bears back or hindquarters. I would imagine had that bear gotten hit just right with a single stomp, it could have gotten its back broken. When you think you're an apex predator at the very top of the food chain...but quickly find out you're nothing but a puny little bunny.

Shocked to see a bear run from something it eats. Was it a young bear?

There was a moose calf you couldn't see behind the building. That's the crying sound you hear just as the moose charges. The bear wasn't going after her, but her baby. Momma ain't having none of that.

Only very confident, massive or desperate bears attempt to take on adult moose. Those things are the closest to a tank besides hippos, elephants and rhinos

Came across a moose in Yellowstone (1960’s) and that thing must have been 12’ tall at the top of his antlers- never been so scared in my life, he could’ve literally turned your car over and this was a time when 25 bears would come on the road surrounding all the vehicles wanting handouts😂

Totally the way I thought that would play out. If you’ve ever seen a moose, you know they are huge animals

that was just a piece of the altercation, the way it "plays out" is the bear keeps doing that until the mother is exhausted then it eats both her calves alive right in front of her and then it eats her alive.
