While FNaF 3 was initially the game I used to argue for being the best FNaF game, I feel like I agree with you on 2 being the best the series has to offer. I feel like it has everything that makes the series iconic in one neat package. All the animatronics in the game I feel like became iconic to the series in some way, with many of the animatronic designs being appealing to the majority of the fanbase. The withered characters were creepy and their designs were in many ways a step up from FNaF 1, and the Toy characters were very appealing to look at.
As you mentioned in this video, the minigames and lore reveals in this game set up so much for the series that I'd argue it was the most important for that reason. Back when this game released, the mysteries it proposed were easily the most interesting the series had to offer, with many of them like the Shadow animatronics never truly being solved.
I also feel like content wise this game was phenomenal. The main 6 nights were very challenging on their own, and the custom night giving a reward in the form of a desk plushy for each challenge complete was a great incentive to complete each and every one. While I feel like nowadays FNaF 1 is my favorite game the series has to offer, I will definitely agree that FNaF 2 is the best, and if not the best then at least the most iconic game the series has to offer.

I'll say this: the three first games all have killer elements to them.
When it comes to ambience, FNAF 1 is the best IMO. It just builds such an eerie, mysterious environment and pieces to a story that envelops the player in confusion and fear.
FNAF 2 has the biggest amount of content and easter-eggs, creating a lot of intrigue for what is going on.
FNAF 3 has a "side-quest" that gives the player agency and leads to perhaps the most satisfying ending there is (love FFPS's ending, but 3's just mixes contentment and sorrow so well, from the visuals to the soundtrack and the story being told, of the children's souls who are finally free from their metallic carcasses).
FNAF 4 is also really great and has the most terrifying usage of sound and visuals in the series, but these first three just nail it. They're such great games I don't see how one could surpass the other.

I feel bad for any newcomers to the series who weren’t in the late 2014 era of the series. When this game’s trailer dropped, I swear it was like the only thing we could focus on till it released.
It was a combination of both new and old, it introduced a massive chunk of important lore, and removed the safety of doors from the player. It was bold, and you can tell Scott had a lot of fun making the game. Easily the best in the series imo.

Fnaf 2 was by no means as influential as fnaf 1, not even in meme culture, and when it comes to memes themselfes, the bite of 87 is probably the most popular one.

      @mangaprofilepicture5820 2 года назад +26

@@cameron9484 i think this is an important thing to note that gets overlooked a lot. The first 3 games (and even 4 to an extent) had essentially two stories going on at the same time: the more direct and personal story of phone guy trying to maintain the integrity of the pizzeria, and the birds-eye view of the history of fazbears and what led to each tragedy.
These work so well together because whether you’re casually running through the main game, or looking for every clue to piece the lore together, you’ll be getting enough engaging information. The former acts as a baseline and brings up questions that the latter answers. We know the phone guy knows more than the player but we don’t know how much more, and with the calls happening in real time we can accurately gauge if it feels like information is being kept a secret, or if the situation is something to worry about (i.e. fnaf 2 night 6). The latter seeks to provide new context and closure to whats given to the player in the main game.
This is dropped a little in fnaf 4, but SL-onwards ditches that for a much more direct story; still sprinkled with secrets but spread around the main trail rather than away from it.

It's cool that every night offers something different. But the problem is that the game never builds on its gameplay mechanics. You're just whisked from one different style to another.

FNAF 2 did everything a sequel was supposed to do, it expanded on the original in almost every way and left enough to build on, story-wise. It’s not as scary as the first game but the chaotic nature of it definitely makes it stressful, Jeremy may be the most badass security guard despite having no story relevance.

Scott contributing to these tidbits with random stuff also made this community bond feel stronger, like we were finishing a puzzle. Sure you interact with Springtrap but frankly I don't think the gameplay is very strong. For a character as seemingly smart as Springtrap, he's actually very useless. As I always say about it, your biggest enemy in FNAF 3 isn't Springtrap, it's system errors. Remove system errors from the game, and bam you never lose because the maniacal serial killer William Afton is trapped in the corner of Cam 10 being fooled by blatant fake children audio tracks! Well actually that still happens anyways, the system errors only exist to help Springtrap because he on his own isn't capable of doing that

Looking back on the series now I can't help but wish the games ended on the trilogy like Scott Cawthon initially intended. Don't get me wrong, I've been pretty invested in the games that followed and the stories they told, but I can't help but feel like the atmosphere got lost in the details, a missing the forest for the trees sort of deal. It was really starting at Fnaf4 that lighthearted speculation turned into full blown toe counting and insesent 83 vs 87 debates and so on. That's the kind of things this video honestly made me realize, and on a objective level I have to agree that Fnaf 2 is what I think Fnaf is at its core more then any other game. Fnaf 3 is my favorite because of how it built on 2, and because I played the game the day it came out. I worked so hard to beat Night 6, which for me not being a super pro gamer or something was a big deal. So thanks for making this video, I think im gonna make my own now speculating on what Fnaf would be like if it was only 1-3.

I absolutely loved the jump in how many characters there were from fnaf 1 to 2. Like, having 2 sets of the original animatronics and the marionette and bb was crazy to me as a kid. I loved it so much. Still the main reason why it's my favorite fnaf game.

For me, my favorite game of the franchise has always switched between fnaf 1 and fnaf 2. I think Fnaf 2 out of the original series of games has the best utilization of gameplay and overall content, with still keeping a simplistic and classic vibe of the original with the visuals and characters, and it's also the first game in the franchise to really put lore at the forefront with the mini games. For me it's the quintessential Fnaf game, but there is a small edge for fnaf 1 for me, I just love the scaled down original and more eerie look and vibe the first game has

I personally think Pizza Sim is the best. It has almost as much difficulty as FNAF 2. Is easily has the most content (not including Steel Wool games and UCN). It doesn’t have one strategy that works every time like 1 and 2. It has a TON of lore, many endings (including the best in the series imo, until SB ruined it). I understand there’s not nostalgia value, but I feel it takes the best elements of all the previous games, adds to that, and makes it into 1 game.

Funny that the gameplay only gets a passing mention, because it's one of the main reasons I think FNAF2 is the best. It nails the horror and multitasking so well. You have plenty of easy small tasks and plenty to look for, anticipate and counter, and the horror comes from the fact that it's really hard to keep up with all that. A perfect mix of buildup and surprise scares.
I also have a soft spot for Sister Location for its atmosphere and narrative, and FNAF1 and 3 are great too. FNAF4 is the scariest in my opinion, and it has a very strong narrative, but the gameplay is unfortunately so god awful it totally ruined it for me.

FNAF 1 is the original, fresh new horror indie game with creative mechanics. Usually you're running around being chased, now you're in a room not being able to move anywhere. It got some interesting lore that kept the players guessing. Gameplay wise, the dilemma between safety and power running out is so thrilling that it kept you on your toes. Had some easter eggs (golden freddy) which had no extended meaning behind it at first, but was brought into the lore really well by Scott
FNAF 2 is the one that sticks to my memories the most. Familiar older animatronics with new fresh additions to the gang as well. Scott did a very bold move of removing what was the only safety between us and the animatronics, the doors. But he did put in a few interesting mechanics as well (Freddy mask and the puppet box, the puppet box was like the pirate cove of FNAF 1, gotta keep an eye on it at all times forcing you to look into your cam). The amount of characters are just right, not too little, not to much. It gives more context to the lore as well, purple guy, golden freddy, the five kids and stuff. Tldr; the perfect balance of familiarity, novelty, and lore explanation
FNAF 3, not my favorite one. Honestly at this point it feels like Scott was trying to come up with some new mechanics again. It worked, but not as well as the previous 2 imo. Plus don't get me started on the springtrap jumpscare. One of the weakest in the franchise. The hallucinations jumpscares are good tho, but getting repeatedly jumpscare throughout the game kinda defeates the purpose of the actual jumpscare itself maybe.
FNAF 4, this one got completely new mechanics, some good ones at that. Relying on audio instead of visual this time. Really cool character designs as well. The atmosphere too, playing as a child in their bedroom instead of a security guard in a night watch is very cool. To me, this one completes the whole lore and story. This is where they should've ended the franchise.
Later FNAF games, ngl I didn't follow the latter series of games, but I did see some gameplays online. Sister Location's character designs looks really damn weird. What kid likes those creepy looking animatronics. UCN has too many characters, the vibe is not even creepy anymore, they deliberately put in "cute" things n stuff. Oh and the jumpscares.. Let's just skip those.

I totally agree. I feel like this game is so overlooked and people really forget how great this game was. First of all the amount of characters were ridiculous. Not only did you have to deal with the withered animatronics from the first game, but you also have to deal with the new sporty Toy animatronics. It kind of adds a competitive element to it too. With countless people I used to know arguing about which animatronics were better. The ogs or the newer flashy ones. This game also had some giant lore dumps with the mini games being added. Also the mechanics make this game so fresh. No doors, vents, the music box, and the mask. You have to constantly utilize those blends of mechanics creating what can be a really stressful experience on some of the harder nights. But all in all 10/10 would highly recommend.
